Chapter 467: Savoring the Afterglow

Chapter 467: Savoring the Afterglow

The rhythmic echo of the ocean waves resonated just outside the closed windows of the hut, accompanied by the rustling of the palm trees.

The string of fairy lights and candles in the jars still flickered around the wooden cabin, twinkling alongside the stars on the dark canvas of the night sky.

The quiet tranquility seemed to enclose the beach in a world of its own.

Lying entwined on the bed, Calix and Leslie were cocooned in the afterglow of their lovemaking.

They nestled close in a contented bliss, savoring each other’s warmth. The intimate moment they shared earlier lingered in their minds.

Calix draped his arm around Leslie’s waist, holding her close. Running his fingers through her luscious locks, he occasionally kissed the top of her head.

As Leslie rested her head on Calix’s bare chest, she smilingly listened to his steady heartbeat. Feeling the rise and fall of his breathing, she was glad to know he was alive.

Calix peered into Leslie’s face, seeing her eyelids closed. His fingers gently traced circles on her back, wishing to preserve this moment as long as he could.

"Sweetheart, you okay?"

Calix asked, his voice a low murmur. The sound barely broke the quiet of the night. His question earned chuckles from Leslie.

"I’m more than okay, honey."

Leslie lifted her chin, meeting his gaze with her own. Her warm brown eyes sparkled, reflecting the bliss she felt deep inside.

Calix moved his hand to cup one side of Leslie’s face, his thumb grazing over her skin with the tenderness he reserved for her. He quietly took in her radiant countenance.

Perhaps it was only his mind playing a trick but, he swore she looked more glowing than usual.

"I’m happy to see you smiling, my love," uttered Calix, his voice still imbued with slight worry, "I hope I didn’t push you too hard earlier."

Leslie let out helpless laughter. Poking Calix’s cheek with one finger, she reassured him, her voice gentle but certain, "Tonight is perfect, honey. You took such great care of me."

Calix was ever so careful, his touch loving and delicate. Leslie didn’t feel pressured or fearful at all. She appreciated his tender gestures.

Leslie couldn’t deny that she sensed the great restraint Calix put himself to and for that, she was so grateful. Once again he proved how much he cared for her wellbeing.

If there was one more thing Leslie had to say, she loved the little moments when Calix whimpered because of her. The flushed and helpless looks he showed swelled her heart with pride.

Calix blinked slowly, taking in the appreciation laced in Leslie’s voice. He knew she meant every word, each of them reflected her heart.

Calix rolled over while carefully pushing Leslie to lie on the bed. Instead of saying any word in response, he kissed her slowly, savoring the sweetness of the moment.

Leslie returned the same gesture. Encircling her arms around Calix’s neck, she let their lips and tongues dance gently together.

The soft lights showered over the canopy bed, illuminating their figures with little marks all over their skin.

"Sweetheart, come," Calix breathed out after breaking the kiss. A lazy smile hung on his lips, "Let’s get you cleaned up."

"Hehe, are you calling me messy?"

Leslie raised her brows playfully while teasing Calix. His response painted her cheeks with the color pink.

"Not at all. Don’t you get it? It’s just an excuse to bathe with you."

Under Calix’s mischievous smirk, Leslie quietly let him carry her to the washroom. Her heartbeat regained its quick thumping, almost leaping out of her chest.

Once again, Calix took better care of Leslie. He let her relax in the tub as he massaged her shoulders and limbs, hoping to loosen the knots and tension.

The lovers enjoyed the quiet moment in the washroom. The moonlight sneaked into through the small windows on the high wall, blending with the lights of the bathroom.

"You should go to a spa someday. Maybe, ask Eve and Irene to join you," said Calix once he finished massaging Leslie, "Treat it as a ladies’ outing or something."

"Hehe~ It’s a nice idea. Even better if I swipe my husband’s card."

Bursting into laughter, Calix pressed his lips on the nape of Leslie’s neck. He smirked once he sensed her shudder.

"You haven’t used the card I gave you, my love."

"W-well... it’s because I have no time ah."

Calix smiled in helplessness. He made a mental note to bring Leslie and Calliope outside more often.

His wife and daughter mostly stayed at the manor even though they could freely ask the bodyguards to bring them around.

Calix was the first to return to the bedroom. He quickly changed the sheet to fresh before hurrying to get Leslie. They took a quick shower to rinse the dirt and soap before emerging from the washroom.

"Stay here, sweetheart," said Calix as he lowered the freshened up Leslie on the bed, "I’ll get you something to eat."

Leslie blinked, never expecting Calix to consider her being hungry after their lovemaking. She watched him heading out of the bedroom, most likely going to the kitchen.

Well, she shouldn’t be surprised ah. Her beloved was always a considerate man.

Lying on the soft mattress, Leslie started feeling drowsy. The clock had just struck midnight. As she stared out the windows, she listened to the faint clutter of dishes from the kitchen.

’What is he making? The egg fried rice I ate before[01]? The first night I came to this world?’

Leslie drew a soft smile on her lips. Thinking back to the first day she arrived in this new world, she never expected to come this far.

Everything was a blessing in disguise.

"Your room service, milady."

Calix’s mellow voice pulled Leslie out of her trance. She quickly propped herself up as he walked inside the room, bringing a tray along with him.

"Did you make something?" asked Leslie as she smelled the delicious scent wafting in the air.

"I reheated the pumpkin soup the cooks made," replied Calix with a sheepish smile. He quickly added, "I contributed by toasting some bread though."

Leslie shook her head in helplessness, her heart tickled by Calix’s excuse. Smiling at him, she said, "I’ve just thought of the egg fried rice you made for me before. Do you remember? The first night I met you as a soul?"

Calix chuckled at the mention of the memory he remembered fondly, "How could I not? Hehe, I gained a soul as my wife at that time. I’m so thankful for meeting you, sweetheart."

Leslie’s cheeks pinkened. Her heart fluttered upon hearing Calix also treasured the memory of their first meeting.

Sitting on the bed, the pair of lovers enjoyed a bowl of sweet pumpkin soup and buttered toast. They took turns feeding each other, sharing more lovely moments together.

As the night stretched on, the air was filled with the quiet comfort of their love.

After eating, the husband and wife cuddled on the bed, chatting over mundane things. Slowly, their conversation dwindled as drowsiness took over.

"Good night, my love," Calix brushed his lips on Leslie’s forehead, his voice low and tender, "Let’s take a stroll next morning, en? Before we return to the villa."

"Okay~" Leslie tilted up her head, leaving a kiss on Calix’s chin, "Sleep well, honey."

Closing their eyes, Calix and Leslie fell asleep in each other’s arms. They subconsciously thought they would be blessed with pleasant dreams.

But...

One of them did not.

In the quietness of the witching hour, Calix gasped, waking up from a chilling dream.
