Chapter 445: Aren’t You Glad of Your Handsome Husband?
Much to Leslie and Calix’s relief, Calliope thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the chocolate museum. Nothing untoward also happened during their visit.
The family of three returned to their hotel suite for the second time after having dinner at the museum restaurant. They rested in the hotel in the afternoon before going back to the museum.
"Mama~ Let’s bathe together! Play with ducks!"
An energetic Calliope requested to bathe with Leslie, earning a sulky pout from Calix. The little dumpling protested when her papa pinched her chubby cheeks repeatedly.
"Your mama is my wife ah."
"Mama is Poppy’s mama!"
Calix had a strong urge to really, really wrap Calliope into a burrito tonight. The little one puffed up her chubby cheeks before running to the washroom.
Unable to hold back, Leslie laughed in helplessness. Her eyes drifted from Calliope’s disappearing figure to the sulky look on Calix’s face.
"Aiya~ Hehe, don’t look so pouty," Leslie playfully poked Calix’s right cheek, her eyes glimmering with mischief, "I’ll take a bath with our daughter now."
"Okay," Calix exhaled a sigh before his upturned lips curling into a grin, "But, before that..."
"...?!"
Oblivious to the happy Calliope, her papa and mama were sharing kisses when she was busy putting the yellow rubber ducks on the tub’s edge.
When Leslie and Calliope bathing, Calix took this chance to gather the souvenirs in one place. Going to a chocolate museum meant they managed to procure a wide range of confectioneries.
Aside from the chocolates intended for Calix’s side of the family, they also bought some for Irene, Aunt Wendy, Uncle Raymond and others.
Calix and Leslie planned to visit the Xu family’s ancestral home on their way back from the hotel tomorrow. Calliope was happy at the thought of meeting everyone again, especially her little cousin Amelia.
"Papa~ Poppy and Mama are done done done bathing!"
Calliope emerged from the washroom, donning light yellow pajamas with pink ruffles. Her long hair was still damp, covered by a towel.
Amused to see Calliope’s hair sticking to her forehead, Calix gestured to the vanity chair, "Come. Papa will dry your hair."
"Okay~"
While Calliope climbed the long bench after grabbing Mimo, Calix hurried to the washroom. Leslie came out a few seconds before he reached the door. She was already donning her nightgown.
"Can you walk?" asked Calix worriedly, "You should call for me ah."
"Hehe, look, I can walk better. Please lead me to Poppy, honey."
Leslie chuckled when Calix sighed in helplessness. She understood how worrywart this man could be.
Calix requested the hotel to put the slip-proof mat in the spacious washroom for Leslie’s sake. He was afraid she would trip when walking on the wet flooring despite having a cane with her.
Holding Leslie’s waist, Calix led her to the vanity table. Calliope turned to look at her parents. Sitting on the bench, her short legs dangled above the floor.
"Mama, Papa, here~"
Calix assisted Leslie to sit on the same bench as Calliope. Taking the cordless hair dryer from the vanity table, he stood behind the little dumpling.
"Papa will dry your hair, en?"
"Thank you, Papa~"
Running his fingers through Calliope’s dark and long strands, Calix carefully dried his daughter’s wet hair.
Leslie smilingly looked at the father and daughter before wiping her own hair using a towel.
"Sweetheart, your turn’s next," Calix glanced at Leslie, a smile tugging on his lips, "You can’t dry your hair properly with a towel ah."
Leslie chuckled, "It’s fine. I’ll use the towel before you’re done with Poppy. Ah, she’s drowsy."
Leslie’s last remark caught Calix’s attention. Both of them looked at Calliope whose head swaying with her eyes drooping.
"Seems like someone’s so sleepy ah."
After making sure Calliope’s hair was dried properly, Calix gently picked the little dumpling up. Her small head fell on his right shoulder.
"Sleepy, en?" Calix stroked Calliope’s head, feeling how tired the little one was.
"Sleepy ah... Poppy so sleepy..."
Leslie had nothing else to say aside from wishing Calliope good night. Calix brought the drowsy little dumpling to the inner room where the bed was.
Calliope really had so much fun at the chocolate museum today. She learned to make chocolate and its rich history, played interactive games and taste-tested different kinds of chocolates.
Seeing Calliope enjoy every moment pleased Leslie and Calix. Both of them only wanted to see their daughter being happy and growing up well.
"I think she won’t wake up until tomorrow morning," uttered Calix once he returned to Leslie. Picking up the hair dryer, he winked, "She won’t disturb our alone time tonight."
"Shameless."
Leslie’s cheeks flushed in the pink color, earning laughter from Calix. Securing her nape, he stole two kisses.
"...are you a thief ah? Stealing kisses like that?"
Purposely pouting, Leslie smacked Calix’s chest. The touch of her small palm made him feel ticklish instead of any pain.
"You’re irresistible, sweetheart," Calix nibbled on Leslie’s lower lip, his tone lacing with mischief, "Aren’t you glad that your handsome husband is a good kisser?"
Another shade of red deepened the color on Leslie’s cheeks. Instead of cowering under Calix’s teasing, she boldly stated, "Yeah, it’s nice to have a husband who’s a good kisser. I’m blessed for life ah."
Leslie’s cheeky retort lured laughter from Calix’s mouth. Once again he claimed her lips.
"...em... enough ah... Dry my hair."
"Yes, milady."
Straightening his posture, Calix began to dry Leslie’s hair. He couldn’t help but envision them cuddling on the couch soon when Calliope was deep in sleep.
But...
Well, Calix’s dream to spend some romantic time alone with Leslie didn’t come true. Being as exhausted as Calliope, she also dozed off as the warm air from the dryer blew from the back.
Stifling his laughter, Calix put the dryer on the table before scooping Leslie in his arms. She nestled her head in the crook of his neck, seeking his familiar comforting scent.
Calix quietly brought Leslie to the room. Slowly lowering her on the bed, he whispered affectionately, "Like mother, like daughter ah. Good night, my love."
Leslie struggled to open her eyes. Calix’s face was a blur, "En... night... honey..."
Dipping his head in, Calix gently pressed his lips on Leslie’s forehead, wishing her to have all the good dreams she could have.
