Chapter 446: Pairs of Eyes, Silently Observing from Afar

The next day.

The family of three lazed around in bed until eight. Calix and Leslie wanted to bring Calliope to have breakfast in the hotel restaurant, served buffet-style.

Lying on the vast bed, the little one drooled when her papa explained how a buffet worked.

"T-then! Poppy can eat everything? And take the food many many times?"

Calliope’s eyes sparkled with thousands of stars. Various types of food popped into her mind.

Pancakes! Cheesy toasts! Cereal! Steamed buns!

"Correct! But, don’t eat until your stomach bursts ah. You still have chocolates to eat, don’t you?"

Calix poked Calliope’s round tummy, earning a head shake from the little dumpling.

"Poppy won’t! Papa, we have a different tummy for desserts ah."

"Aw~ My little princess is clever ah!"

Leslie had no words to say over how funny Calix and Calliope’s conversation was. Stifling her laughter, she made a mental note to scold the man if their daughter suddenly got a stomach ache from overeating.

"Okay~ Time to get ready," Leslie clapped her hands, pulling Calix and Calliope’s attention to her, "We still need to go to your great-grandma’s home, Poppy."

"Oh~ Mia there too, Mama?" Calliope hurriedly crawled to Leslie, her tone lacing with excitement.

"Yup. Everyone will be there," Leslie tapped her fingertip on Calliope’s round nose, "Even your Little Aunt Eve will be there."

Evelyn had just returned to the country from a short trip abroad. Her schedule was not as packed as usual per her request. Her next filming wouldn’t start until this late autumn.

"Okay~ Poppy’s a good girl. Poppy will go shower now."

Sliding down the bed, Calliope hurried to the wardrobe where her clothes were hung. She waved her hands, calling for Calix.

"Papa, Poppy can’t take that dress. Please help~"

Laughing in helplessness, Calix quickly came to Calliope’s rescue. Leslie simply let her husband take care of their daughter as she continued lying on the bed.

Going on a trip like this was delightful despite being a one-night stay only. Leslie couldn’t wait for their island trip at the end of this month, approximately in two weeks.

’We should bring Poppy to visit her friends too. Perhaps in autumn. The scenery there will be pretty.’

Calliope was still in regular contact with Director Li and her friends in the orphanage. Neither Leslie nor Calix wish to sever their ties, knowing how precious the orphanage was to their daughter.

The other day, Leslie let Calliope video call Director Li. The middle-aged woman happily showed the new building commissioned by Calix a few months ago.

"The children can’t wait to move there! We might get to move in mid-autumn. The progress is quicker than expected."

Leslie remembered Calix saying the new building might be ready before autumn ended at the very least[01]. Hearing this piece of news perked her up.

Once the children moved into the new building, the same team of construction workers would begin renovating the old one. The old building needed quite extensive maintenance after decades.

Smiling to herself, Leslie silently prayed for her wish to come true. She hoped her mind wouldn’t be unnecessarily burdened with worries because of the last obstacle.

They would win this war.

A quarter to nine, the family of three headed to the third floor of the hotel where the restaurant was. Logan and Allen handled their luggage and other belongings, bringing them to the van.

Calix wheeled Leslie to a table by the floor-to-ceiling windows. Half of the restaurant was occupied by patrons enjoying a slow morning.

"Mama~ Strawberry pancakes for Mama."

A cheerful Calliope carefully held a plate of strawberry pancakes. She followed Calix to take some dishes from the long buffet table. The man carried a tray of food.

This was the father and daughter’s second trip from the table.

Leslie chuckled as she looked at the fresh strawberry slices and the little strawberry prints on Calliope’s dress. She playfully teased her daughter, "Wow~ Did Poppy pick these strawberries from your dress?"

"Hehe, no~"

Calix helped Calliope to sit on the booster seat strapped to the dining chair. Several plates of food and cups of drinks were served on the table, waiting to be savored by them.

"Which one do you want first?" asked Calix to Leslie after cutting the pancakes into small pieces, "Still thinking, sweetheart?"

Chuckles slipped between Leslie’s lips. She reached for a small bowl of fruit and nuts yogurt, "I’ll have this first. You should eat, honey. Our Poppy can eat well by herself."

"Yup, yup," Calliope nodded her small head, pausing from gobbling down the pancakes, "Papa, eat."

"Okay~"

The family of three enjoyed the breakfast spread, occasionally feeding each other. Calix and Leslie humored Calliope when she came up with silly questions. A hearty ambiance enveloped them.

Neither Calix nor Leslie noticed pairs of eyes were silently observing them from across the restaurant. After a while, one of them stood up before making a beeline to them.

"Brother Calix."

The sudden call pulled both Calix and Leslie’s attention to the speaker. Calliope was still too engrossed in eating. The husband and wife saw a young lady standing by the table.

"Belle," Calix’s eyes flickered with recognition. Smiling politely to the woman, he inquired, "Are you here with your friends?"

"Yes," the young woman nodded. Curling her lips, she looked from Calix to Leslie and Calliope, "Hello, you must have been Brother Calix’s wife. I’m Belinda Qin. Nice to meet you."

Leslie finally realized who this young lady was. She was Xander’s female cousin! The one who Gladys tried to manipulate into spreading rumors about her.

"Hello, my name is Charlene," Leslie responded, using her legal name. A smile was drawn on her lips.

"I’m a cousin of Brother Calix’s friend. You knew Xander, don’t you?" Belinda continued talking, bringing Xander’s name along.

"Yes, I’ve met him," Leslie replied cordially despite remembering how awful the last time she met Xander, "I also have met his girlfriend, Violet."

"I didn’t expect to bump into you here. I’ve been wanting to meet Brother Calix’s wife and child."

Leslie had mixed feelings about Belinda. The latter caused Calix and Xander to fight when she believed the rumors instigated by Gladys and told her cousin about it.

After the two men clashed, it seemed Belinda realized Gladys was simply using her. She began distancing herself from the latter.

Well, what led them to cross paths with the male lead’s cousin today?
