Chapter 439: Her New Vision Was Related to Him
After having lunch with Leslie and Calliope, Calix informed Aunt Wendy about moving his wife’s belongings into his room. The request was well received by the housekeeper.
"Sure! I’ll pack everything!" Aunt Wendy’s beaming eyes looked from the delighted Calix to the blushing Leslie, "Don’t worry, Mrs. Leslie. I’ll handle everything quickly."
"Aa... thank you, Aunt Wendy," uttered Leslie quietly, feeling the heat emanating from her cheeks, "But, don’t do it yourself. We’ll do it together."
"I think we can start tomorrow," Calix chimed in, happy to see how supportive Aunt Wendy was in his pursuit of his wife.
Leslie and Calix discussed about her moving into his room earlier in the backyard. Aside from her clothes, skincare and a few other items, there was nothing left.
Calix asked Leslie if he should redecorate his room before the move but, she quickly shot the suggestion down. The current decor was good enough. There was no need to change it.
"Alright. Consider it done, Mr. Calix."
Aunt Wendy clapped her hands, already thinking of her plan tomorrow. Calix playfully nudged Leslie’s elbow, earning a shy glare from her.
Calix spent the rest of the day relaxing with Leslie and Calliope. They watched a movie together in the afternoon. He planned to bring his wife and daughter for a night drive after dinner.
"Wow~ Poppy wanna go! Papa, can we see the twinkle-twinkle meow ah?"
Calliope danced excitedly once she heard Calix’s plan for tonight. She loved going on a night drive with her mama and papa.
The twinkle-twinkle meow Calliope mentioned was a cat statue for a public park nearby. The sculpture was built in the middle of a giant flower bed with strings of colorful lights.
Calliope loved the cat statue from the first time Calix and Leslie brought her to the park.
"Sure. Let’s go there," Calix nodded, quickly agreeing with Calliope, "You like seeing the meow, en?"
"Hehe, yes~"
Leslie smiled as she fondly looked at Calix and Calliope. She always appreciated the deep bond shared between the father and daughter but, knowing his hidden yet real identity made her value it more than ever.
’If I can, I’ll tell him about Nicholas Wu tonight.’
Leslie hadn’t forgotten her plan. She couldn’t afford to delay this issue any longer if she wished to protect their family’s peace. She believed Calix would think the same.
The family of three went out at a quarter to eight. The sun had descended but, the city’s skyline still had hues of amber and violet.
"Woah! Poppy can see the moon!"
Sitting in a child’s car seat in the backseat, Calliope kept looking out of the opened sunroof. She brought Mimo along, hugging it tightly.
Calix’s sleek black sedan moved smoothly down the major roads, passing the shadowy trees and buildings. The cool air blew inside the car, gently caressing their cheeks and hair.
"It’s a pity we can’t see the stars properly," said Calix without looking away from the road ahead, "The island we’ll be going to has spectacular night scenery. We can see the stars better there."
Leslie glanced at Calix’s side profile, seeing the passing street lights illuminating his smiling countenance. She caught the anticipation lacing in his voice.
"The trip is in three weeks, right?"
Evelyn wanted to show the private island photos to Leslie but, she politely declined her younger sister-in-law’s offer. She wished to see it for the first time on their arrival later.
"Yup! I’ll be free for four days but, let me try to extend it."
Edward kept telling Calix that four days including the weekend was the max[01]. This July was a busy month for Xu International, coming second after Lunar New Year’s month.
Still, Calix wouldn’t give up. He planned to rearrange his schedule upon his return to the company next week. Even if his attempt failed, at least he had tried his best.
Calix brought Leslie and Calliope to the public park where the cat statue was. The husband and wife spent quite some time there, letting their daughter admire the adorable sculpture.
The sight of Calliope’s innocent and awestruck face was priceless for both Calix and Leslie.
The family of three arrived back at the manor around nine-fifteen. Calliope was exhausted from running around in the park, leading Calix to carry her inside.
"Calix."
Leslie tugged at Calix’s hand before she went inside her bedroom. She wanted to prepare herself before bedtime, including changing into her nightwear.
"Yes, sweetheart?"
Gazing at Leslie’s countenance, Calix saw a hint of worry in her eyes. He unconsciously raised his brows, wondering why she looked like that after having fun earlier.
"I have something important to tell you," Leslie forced herself to take the first crucial step. Staring at Calix, she uttered, "I received another vision. This is related to you."
Stunned, Calix almost stammered, "...another vision, again? It’s about me?"
Leslie’s previous vision—a prophetic dream—involved Evelyn. Calix didn’t expect to hear her getting it again, much less to know it was related to him.
Leslie nodded, her face grim, "I wanted to tell you last night, but... Anyway, I really need to tell you this tonight. If not..."
Catching the desperate hint in Leslie’s voice, Calix quickly bent down and brought her into his arms. She froze for a second before weakly grasping the back of his shirt.
"Sweetheart, calm down, en? Let’s talk about it after this. No matter what, I believe we’ll make it through anything. Don’t worry, en?"
Leslie pursed her lips, feeling the heat in her eyes. She didn’t know why her heart was struck with fear. Perhaps, she was frightened at the thought of losing him – again.
Trying to stabilize her emotions, Leslie took in a deep breath. She feebly uttered, "Yes... I’ll be quick. Let’s meet in your room."
"Okay, sweetheart."
Calix gave Leslie a long and tight hug before reluctantly letting her go. He noticed her eyes had reddened and glazed with unshed tears.
What made her so afraid?
What was it?
