Chapter 437: The Night After His Return
"PAPA! Thank you~"
Spinning on her tiny feet, Calliope hugged the adorable traditional dress Calix bought for her. The little one’s enthusiastic antics earned laughter from her parents. The merry sound echoed pleasantly in the lounge.
"Hehe, the dress is indeed cute," Leslie fondly looked at the happy Calliope, "Mama’s darling daughter will look so adorable wearing it."
Running to Leslie, Calliope exclaimed, "Mama~ Wear Mama’s dress too!"
"Okay~ I will."
A soft smile was drawn on Calix’s lips. He was glad to see how happy Leslie and Calliope were once they received the souvenirs.
Calix also bought a few for Aunt Wendy, Uncle Raymond and the private nurses. Aside from the high quality Swiss chocolate and cheese, he brought back items like embroidered textiles and other alpine-themed trinkets.
"We can eat the chocolate and the cheese tomorrow," said Leslie while looking from Calix to Calliope, "Poppy, wanna swim in the lake tomorrow morning?"
"Want! With Mama and Papa!"
"Okay~"
Calix arrived at the manor slightly after six o’clock. Once he saw Leslie and Calliope at the entrance, he quickly pulled them in a tight hug. His wife and daughter’s joyful laughter filled his heart with ease.
The family of three, including Aunt Wendy, Uncle Raymond and Mrs. An enjoyed the feast prepared by the housekeeper during dinner. The hearty ambiance between them cast a warm atmosphere in the huge manor.
Calliope proudly showed Calix and everyone the pudding she made with Aunt Wendy. She tried to run when her papa suddenly smooched her chubby cheeks with kisses.
After dinner, Calix told everyone to head to the lounge on the first floor. He gave some souvenirs to Aunt Wendy, Uncle Raymond and Mrs. An. Mrs. Su would receive hers tomorrow.
Then, the family of three was left alone in the lounge. It was time for them to relive their longing for each other after days of separation.
Calix spent more time sharing stories about Zurich, including showing photos and videos to Leslie and Calliope. He only stopped when the little dumpling couldn’t stand her sleepiness anymore.
"Wanna sleep with Papa and Mama?" asked Calix while carrying the drowsy Calliope in his arms.
"No~ Poppy’s princess bed."
Calix sighed in helplessness. He brought Calliope to her bedroom, followed by Leslie in the wheelchair. The little one kept dozing off when brushing her teeth.
"Sleep well, my princess," Calix tucked Calliope in on the bed. He lightly kissed the dumpling’s chubby right cheek, "Let’s play at the lake tomorrow, en?"
"En... Night, Papa and Mama..."
"Good night, my darling."
Calix and Leslie quietly left the bedroom. The man stopped for a moment as his eyes lingered on the crochet fox toy hugged by Calliope.
"Calix, something’s wrong?" asked Leslie who had reached the door. She looked at the back of Calix’s head. He was staring at the bed.
"It’s nothing," Calix turned to Leslie, his lips curling up, "Where should we go, sweetheart? Your bedroom or mine?"
Blinking, Leslie’s cheeks heating up, "Yours."
The light in Calix’s eyes softened. Placing one hand on the back of the wheelchair, he bent down while gripping Leslie’s chin, tilting her head up.
Leslie’s eyes widened slightly as she watched Calix dipping his head down. His shadows stretched on her frame. Closing her eyelids, she savored the softness of Calix’s lips on hers.
"I missed you, sweetheart," whispered Calix above Leslie’s lips. His warm breath fanned her face and neck.
Really, really missed her.
Even that particular word couldn’t relay the extent of his longing for her.
Lifting both hands, Leslie encircled her arms around Calix’s neck. She exchanged another soft kiss with him before replying quietly, "Honey, I missed you too."
Caught in a trance, the pair of lovers smiled lovingly at each other. The affection and warmth they had for each other were expressed through their gazes.
"Let’s go now," Calix slowly straightened his posture. He lightly touched Leslie’s face, "Are you sleepy already, sweetheart?"
"I still wanna talk to you," Leslie chuckled. She smiled meaningfully at Calix, "Or, is my honey sleepy already?"
Laughter escaped Calix’s lips once Leslie returned the same question to him. Shaking his head, he uttered, "I also wish to chat with you more."
The husband and wife quietly left the hallway, the bright lights sprinkling on their shoulders. They disappeared behind the door of the room down the corridor.
Calix lay on the bed, waiting for Leslie to emerge from the washroom. Smiling to himself, he softly patted the mattress with one hand.
Calix fondly remembered that Leslie and Calliope slept here during the nights he was away. He didn’t mind his wife and daughter spending time in his bedroom at all.
And... he had something to suggest to his sweetheart tonight.
"Why are you smiling alone like that?"
Leslie’s voice echoed from the washroom. Looking at her, Calix giggled in glee.
"I’m just happy to be back home," Calix slid out of the bed, approaching Leslie who took slow steps, "Seems like your movements are better now. Less wobbly."
"Hehe, yes!"
Calix didn’t hold Leslie’s waist and hand as usual as per her request. He was there just to catch his wife if needed, preventing her from falling if her legs failed her.
"Haa... It’s still tiring," whispered Leslie once she lay in bed with Calix, "Hehe, I hope I can walk more than this on our beach trip."
"You definitely will," Calix pulled up the blanket to cover both of them, his voice lacing with encouragement, "My wife has always worked hard. See? You reached this stage in two months."
"Hahaha!"
Rolling to one side, Leslie nestled toward Calix before his arms pulled her even closer. She buried her face in his chest, taking in his familiar scent.
Calix ran his fingers through Leslie’s dark locks, seeing them falling before sprawling on the pillow.
Curling up his lips, he whispered affectionately, "Sweetheart?"
"En?"
Calix leaned backward to properly look at Leslie’s face. Gently stroking her face, he asked, "Want to move into my room?"
Blinking, Leslie was caught in a trance. She already expected this question but, not this soon.
Her answer was...
"I want."
She wanted to. She wanted to do anything that meant bringing them even closer.
