Chapter 436: Was There Any Relationship Between These Two Matters?

In his dream, Calix found himself taking a stroll in a park with the woman. It was not the familiar one they had been many times before. Most likely the couple decided to visit another park.

Calix deduced it was late summer but, he was unsure whether this scene happened before the autumn of the man’s death or not[01].

"Honey, I wonder ah. What will happen if one of us dies first?"

The woman’s question surprised Calix but, a chuckle escaped the man’s lips. He could only listen as the man responded to his lover.

"If I die first, I’ll wait for you in another life. If you die first, I’ll go looking for you. Unless you don’t want me anymore, sweetheart."

The man’s reply earned a meaningful look from the woman before she playfully smacked his back. He laughed, expressing his inner joy that Calix perfectly sensed.

"I want you in every life, honey. It sounds so corny, isn’t it? But, I can’t imagine being with another man ah."

As the couple sat on one of the empty benches in the park, the man brought his lover in his arms. His calm voice gently flowed out of his lips, trying to reassure her.

"Feelings can change even though we don’t want it to happen, sweetheart. If one day I die first and you love another man, don’t blame yourself. I just want you to be happy."

’Even though I still wish to reunite with you.’

The man’s inner desire didn’t mirror what he had just spoken to the woman. Calix sensed how tightly he held her as if he never wanted to be separated from his lover.

The dream was short but, brought more thoughts to Calix.

Still holding the crochet fox toy in one hand, Calix’s eyes narrowed. He didn’t know why his sense was immediately focused on Mimo after waking up from that particular dream last night.

Was there any relationship between this fox and those dreams?

What if... this was related to what he witnessed at the temple dream before?

"Ah, what am I thinking now?" Calix abruptly shook his head, thinking how ridiculous his mind was, "I better sleep ah."

Putting the crochet fox toy down, Calix switched off the lights. He had a video conference to attend in five hours. Despite being hungry, his body yearned for sleep more.

As the man drifted off to sleep, he didn’t notice the glint in the crochet fox toy’s beady eyes.

After long hours on the flight, Calix and his entourage finally landed at the international airport of Silvercrest City. The bright summer sky of the metropolis welcomed them back.

"Haaa! Finally!"

"My wife and son are already here. See you guys next week!"

"Boss Xu, I’ll go first. Later!"

Shaking his head in helplessness, Calix shooed everyone away after they headed out of the arrival hall. Logan and his colleague, Allen welcomed the man back. The latter already had Calix’s suitcase with him.

"Welcome home, Boss Xu."

Calix scanned Logan and Allen from head to toe. Raising his brows, he asked, "Anyone of you tried to set my garden on fire, or any mischief? Confess quickly before I catch you guys."

"Haha," Logan laughed dryly, his deadpan eyes staring at Calix, "That joke is lame, Boss. You should try better."

Calix clicked his tongue, thinking how annoying Logan was. The bodyguard grinned like a fool, unbothered by his employer’s piercing stare.

"Well, Mrs. Xu and the little miss are waiting for you ah," Logan gestured in the direction of the elevator, "Aunt Wendy said she’d prepare a feast to celebrate your return, Boss."

"Hurry home. Quick."

"Yes, yes."

Calix had the chance to talk to Leslie and Calliope three hours ago. The mother and daughter excitedly waited for his arrival this evening.

"Papa! Poppy help Aunt Wendy make strawberry pudding! It’s so cute ah!"

The little dumpling eagerly told her papa about the desserts she helped Aunt Wendy make this morning. The puddings were molded in the shapes of a bunny and a cat.

Calix, Logan and Allen continued heading to the exit. Another bodyguard was already there with the car to transport everyone back to the manor.

The airport was brimming with people, either locals or foreigners. Announcements in several languages echoed from time to time, informing the passengers of various matters related to their travel.

Calix didn’t speak much as he was preoccupied with the thoughts of Leslie and Calliope. He hoped his beloved wife and cute daughter would love the gifts he brought back.

"Mr. Xu!"

Halting in his tracks, Calix glanced to his left. Logan and Allen also stopped walking, catching the sound of someone calling their boss’ name.

"...who’s that?"

Calix’s eyes zeroed in on a young man dressed casually pulling a suitcase. The latter’s face had a hint of familiarity as if they had crossed paths before.

"Mr. Xu, I didn’t expect to bump into you here," said the young man once he stopped a few feet before Calix, "Are you on a business trip?"

"Hi, Mr. Yan," Calix returned the greeting. He was lucky enough to recall the young man’s identity right on time, "I’ve just arrived back. I was on a trip four days ago."

Calix remembered meeting Mr. Yan during Mr. Nucci’s banquet in Rome a few months ago[02]. He barely recollected the details of their conversation before.

"Have you moved here?"

"Yes, last month," replied Mr. Yan amicably before explaining more to Calix, "Our base is still in Europe. My partner and I are looking forward to expanding our business here."

"All the best, Mr. Yan. I hope we’ll cross paths again soon."

Calix extended his right hand, intending to shake hands with Mr. Yan. He liked the glimmer of pride in the young man’s eyes.

Mr. Yan received Calix’s gesture by shaking hands. He uttered, "I hope so. My partner wishes to meet you too, Mr. Xu."

Calix and Mr. Yan exchanged name cards before parting ways. The young man brought out his phone before calling a number. A snicker was drawn on his lips.

"Hello, Nick. Guess who I’ve just met."
