Chapter 431: A Pleasant Surprise in the Morning
"Mama~ Can we call Papa again?"
Leslie tore her eyes from the morning news on the TV screen, turning to look at Calliope. The little one was sitting on the couch seat next to her, hugging the giant strawberry crocheted by Calix before.
The mother and daughter were relaxing in the lounge. They had just returned from a short stroll in the backyard.
"We talked to Papa last night," Leslie reached one hand out to Calliope, gently patting the little one’s round head, "Poppy misses Papa, en?"
Flashing her brightest smile to Leslie, Calliope laughed, "Hehe~ Poppy miss Papa so much ah!"
Calix and Calliope finally got to have a video chat last night. The man contacted Leslie’s phone once he landed in Zurich. The mother and daughter were chilling after dinner.
It was still bright in Switzerland while the time back in the country was around nine in the evening.
Leslie simply let the father and daughter interact as she sat by Calliope’s side, occasionally chiming when needed. She was glad to see how happy the little dumpling was.
At the same time, Leslie felt better than earlier. The turbulent storms in her heart had already calmed down.
Unfortunately, Calix couldn’t stay on the line for too long. He needed to rush to a few places. Leslie and Calliope wished him well before hanging up.
From the end of the video chat last night to this morning, there had been only a few texts from Calix.
Leslie woke up to his messages, including two scenic photos of the Alps country. Mimo could be seen modeling in both pictures.
Calix texted Leslie around six-thirty in the morning, meaning it was around midnight in Zurich. The man needed to stay awake past his usual bedtime because of the huge time difference.
[Calix: Just reached the hotel. I’ll go out at seven. So sleepy🥲]
[Calix: I’ll find time to call you. Send my hugs to Poppy]
[Calix: I love you, my sweetheart 💞]
Feeling sorry for her man, Leslie replied with a few encouraging texts. It had been two hours since then. Calix was most likely glued to his bed.
"It’s nighttime where Papa is," explained Leslie patiently to Calliope, her lips smiling, "How about we send a video to Papa? Poppy, wanna wish good morning to your papa?"
"Oh! Want!"
Leslie chuckled at the sight of Calliope’s eagerness. Calix might wake up when they were having lunch later. Sending him a video of their little daughter should be a good idea.
"Hehe, here, my darling. Mama will record a video, en?"
"Okay~"
Leslie recorded Calliope waving at saying hi to Calix. The little one’s excitement soared, leading to her dancing and even singing on the carpeted floor.
Delightful joy beamed through the lounge, as vibrant as the summer sky outside.
"Mrs. Leslie, Miss Poppy."
Aunt Wendy’s sudden appearance caught Leslie’s attention while Calliope was still dancing in front of the phone. The housekeeper’s smiling face hid good news for the mother and daughter.
"Yes, Aunt Wendy?" Leslie smiled back at the older lady after pausing the recording, "Oh? Have they arrived? It’s still early."
Leslie was waiting for Ms. Chen and Ms. Yao. The rehab sessions were scheduled to start later than usual. She didn’t anticipate her therapists’ arrival until ten in the morning.
"Hehe, there’s a delivery guy outside," Aunt Wendy gestured in the direction of the entryway, chuckles slipping from her mouth, "Mrs. Leslie, please go there with Miss Poppy."
Raising her brows, Leslie wondered who the delivery man was. The bodyguards and Aunt Wendy were the ones who usually handled any deliveries, whether from the couriers or grocery store.
"We’ll be there."
Leslie shifted her attention from Aunt Wendy to Calliope. The little one had stopped singing once she realized her mother was talking to the housekeeper.
"Mama, why stop?" asked Calliope, tilting her head to the right.
Her little face flushed red. She was having so much fun dancing and singing earlier.
"Let’s follow Aunt Wendy," Leslie smiled at Calliope before saving the recording. She planned to continue it soon, "Someone is waiting for us."
"Oh?"
Calliope and Leslie headed out of the lounge, following Aunt Wendy from behind. The front door was only opened a tiny fraction.
Stepping forward, Aunt Wendy smiled meaningfully at Leslie and Calliope. She slowly pulled the door toward her, revealing who was waiting outside.
"W-woah! Flowers!"
Calliope exclaimed out loud while Leslie was caught off guard, speechless. Vivid yellow, red and pink colors were reflected in their eyes.
A young man dressed in uniform was holding one bouquet in each hand. A wide smile was plastered on his youthful face.
"Good morning, I’m from Bliss n’ Bloom. There’s a delivery for Mrs. Leslie Xu and Miss Calliope Xu."
"That’s me and my daughter..." Leslie wheeled herself closer to the door, her eyes wandering from the delivery man and the flowers, "The flowers are for us, really?"
"Yes," replied the young man with a quick nod, "The sender is Mr. Calix Xu."
"Aaa! Papa give us flowers, Mama!"
Blinking, Leslie pulled herself out of the trance. Her lips curved into a smile as the blush colored her cheeks.
"Oh... I didn’t expect my husband to send us flowers. He’s on a business trip now."
"Hehe, you have a good husband, Mrs. Xu," said the young man, "Also a good father."
The delivery man handed the bouquet to Leslie before giving the smaller one to Calliope. Aunt Wendy watched their interaction with a contented smile.
Blooms of red roses filled Leslie’s bouquet, followed by three yellow sunflowers peeking out between the red petals.
Calliope’s bouquet had a small difference. The little one got pink roses instead of red.
"Mama~ So pretty!"
Calliope’s adoration toward the flowers earned chuckles from Leslie. The little one couldn’t take her eyes off of the pink roses and yellow sunflowers.
Stroking Calliope’s head, Leslie uttered, "We have to thank Papa, understand?"
"Okay!"
Leslie’s eyes returned to the bouquet sitting in her lap. The vibrant colors seemed to lift her mood further. She fondly remembered Calix.
He was thousands of miles away from them yet, he still held them close to his heart.
