Chapter 410: He Looked as if He Was up to No Good

Evelyn stayed the night at Graceville Manor. She joined Calix, Leslie and Calliope having a barbecue party by the lake. Aunt Wendy, Uncle Raymond and Mrs. An were also there.

The party began around six-thirty. The small group chatted in between laughter as they enjoyed the variety of dishes served under the soft moonlit sky.

Calix took on the role of the grill master after cooking some egg fried rice. He insisted Leslie eat more than usual after cutting some meat into smaller bites.

"HEYA! Yours truly will entertain you all! Who’s gonna be my partner?"

Evelyn yelled from the wooden deck, her stage for tonight. Assuming an exaggerated stance, she tightly held an unused spatula, pretending it was a mic.

"Woohoo! Sing for us, Miss Eve!"

"Little Aunt! You’re the best!"

The excited Uncle Raymond and Calliope clapped out loud before the others followed. Calix paused from grilling the meat as Evelyn’s action caught his eye.

Tsk tsk tsk, was she trying to summon rain and storm when the night was this good?!

"Hey! Don’t call the rain ah! I’m still grilling meat!"

Calix’s shout earned laughter from everyone but Evelyn. Sticking out her tongue, she yelled back, "Do your job! Don’t mess with me!"

Ignoring her annoying elder brother, Evelyn returned her focus to what she was trying to do. Her eyes landed on the cheery Uncle Raymond.

"Uncle Raymond! Come and join me! Hurry!"

"Eh? Me?" Uncle Raymond pointed to himself, stunned.

"Yes! Now!"

"Hehe, go and sing with Eve," Leslie clapped her hands, wondering how this pair would entertain them, "We’ll cheer from here! All the best!"

"Aaa! Poppy wanna dance!"

Calliope jumped up and down, waving her hands repeatedly at Evelyn.

"Hahaha! Come, Miss Poppy!"

Laughing out loud, Uncle Raymond beckoned at Calliope to follow him. The little one quickly ran toward the middle-aged man before both of them went to the deck.

"Go go go!" Leslie happily cheered. She continued clapping her hands, "Go, Eve! Go, Poppy! Go, Uncle Raymond!"

Aunt Wendy and Mrs. An shared a look. They were amused by the unlikely combination of three entertainers on the deck. Calix chuckled in helplessness as he witnessed their performance.

The excited Calliope danced randomly when Evelyn and Uncle Raymond sang in a duet.

The melodies resonated in the tranquil backyard of the manor, harmonizing with the soothing nature soundtracks of water splashing and leaves rustling.

The small group of people continued enjoying the merriment before it eventually ended around nine-thirty in the evening.

Everyone—including the frail Leslie and small Calliope—worked together in cleaning the mess. All of them headed inside the manor slightly past ten, leaving the glamping tent behind.

Calix went to clean himself first before going to Leslie’s bedroom. Calliope would sleep with Evelyn tonight. The little one cutely asked her aunt about it earlier.

"Haa..."

Calix walked out of the washroom with a towel tied around his tapered waist. He wiped his damp hair with a smaller one. Tiny water droplets trickled down his broad chest, glinting under the lights.

"Thank goodness, everything went well today."

A satisfied smile was drawn on Calix’s lips as mirth flickered in his eyes. Pausing in front of the closet, he reached for one set of pajamas.

The color light blue of the nightwear reminded Calix of the clear sky and enchanting lake. He chuckled as he recalled how enjoyable the time he spent with Leslie and Calliope was today.

Calix was genuinely relieved seeing Leslie wasn’t affected by last night’s events. At least he could leave for his business trip soon without much worry.

His grandmother and his parents mentioned they would like to visit Leslie and Calliope here during his absence. Hearing that further eased his concerns.

"Oh... I still should tell her what happened today. Hehe, I think she’ll find it funny."

Logan’s messages from this afternoon slipped into Calix’s mind as he fastened the buttons. Mockery glinted in his eyes.

The bodyguard informed Calix about the foreseen arrival of a few unexpected guests. Well, they appeared much later than he expected.

Calix initially thought he would catch glimpses of them before sunrise. While brushing his hair, he recalled the content of Logan’s texts.

[Logan: They’re here as predicted. The front gate guards stop them]

[Logan: Should we proceed with our plan?]

The enraged Old Madam Li and Geoffrey appeared at the front gate of Mapleview Heights, demanding to meet Calix and Leslie. They weren’t afraid of going against what Mr. Wei warned them last night.

When the guards sternly told them they had no access to the gated community, Old Madam Li and Geoffrey tried pulling the same trick as Rowan and Bianca did before[01].

One of the elderly lady’s friends who lived there called the guard post to let them in. But, Old Madam Li and Geoffrey’s trick still failed.

Logan and his colleagues stopped the mother and son long before the duo reached the main gate of Graceville Manor. Old Madam Li and Geoffrey’s wrath did nothing to break the human barricade.

"It’s a pity I couldn’t see how they reacted myself ah. Tsk."

Clicking his tongue, Calix inwardly comforted himself with the idea of watching the interaction taped by Logan and his colleagues’ bodycams. He also had the recording from last night.

"Should I send the videos to them? That sounds good."

Grinning mischievously, Calix considered doing that just to add more oil to the fire of Old Madam Li’s wrath. The elderly woman would be so mad she might cough blood.

"Hehe, I better tell Leslie now."

Calix hurriedly ran out of his bedroom once he was satisfied with his appearance. He couldn’t wait to inform Leslie about what had happened when she was enjoying a happy time by the lake.

"My sweet wife~"

Announcing his arrival by calling her, Calix quickly closed the door of Leslie’s chamber. He found her leaning against the headboard with one book on her lap.

"Are you still energetic?" Leslie glanced at Calix, her lips drawn into a helpless smile, "Why do you look so happy ah?"

"Hahaha! I have something to tell you!"

Leslie stared at Calix in a mixture of confusion and amusement. The man’s wicked look told her he was up to no good.
