Chapter 411: She Would Continue Staying in Peace Despite the Chaos
"Hahaha! Haha... hahaha!"
Pressing her stomach, Leslie felt her entire body trembling from her continuous laughter. Tears glistened in her tears as she looked at Calix by her side. The man had a Cheshire cat’s grin on his lips.
"Won’t your tummy hurt from all this laughing ah?"
Calix’s helpless words only made Leslie cackle more. Rubbing her teary eyes, she tried asking him between her laughter.
"Hahaha! Logan and his colleagues... really did that? They responded with nothing?"
Calix’s story about Old Madam Li and Geofrrey’s attempts to scare Logan and his colleagues amused Leslie. The mother and son duo acted like two fools getting mad at human-sized dolls.
Old Madam Li threatened to run over the bodyguards because they didn’t move away from blocking the road but, Logan and his colleagues remained static. Even when they made small movements, they never acknowledged the Li family directly.
Old Madam Li and Geoffrey were so mad to the point of coughing blood but, none of the bodyguards were terrified by their threats.
In the end, the insufferable mother and son left after more than an hour of facing Logan and his colleagues. They couldn’t stand being ignored by the people they thought beneath them.
Logan’s action of smiling brightly while waving his hand when Old Madam Li and Geoffrey were leaving irked the duo.
"It’s getting late. We can talk about this again tomorrow," Calix reached out for the remote controller to turn off the lights. He glanced at Leslie, "Lie down properly ah."
"Hehehe, okay~"
Leslie adjusted her position on the bed by lying on one side facing Calix. The man slipped under the blanket after switching off the lamps.
Only the warm glow of the underbed lights illuminated the huge room.
Calix gently brought Leslie into his arms. His smile softened once he heard her giggling. She wrapped her soft and dainty arms around him.
"Thank you for today, Calix. I enjoyed everything."
Leslie whispered in the quiet of the night, hoping her earnest feelings reached Calix. Nestling closer to the man, she smiled as she sensed the faint vibrations of his heart beating under his chest.
"I’m glad to know that, Leslie," Calix laughed softly. He gently stroked the back of Leslie’s head, and a contented sigh escaped his lips, "Go to sleep. Let’s talk more tomorrow, en?"
Calix couldn’t help but think what the Li family would do next. The bureau wouldn’t send people after them yet, most likely sometime next week.
"En. Good night."
"You too."
Slowly closing her eyes, Leslie felt her exhaustion quickly creeping in after being held at bay. She faintly sensed Calix brushing his lips on her forehead.
The small action put a little smile on her face before she finally fell asleep.
The night was quiet inside and outside the manor. The moon showered the yard under its soft light, leaving twinkles shimmering on the gently rippling water and the dewdrops.
After hours had passed, it was time for the sun to reappear.
Everyone in the manor was still sleeping when the giant ball of light slowly ascended above the horizon, dyeing the sky in its vibrant violet, amber and orange hues.
Evelyn left after breakfast, saying she had to meet her manager and assistants this morning. Calix, Leslie and Calliope once again spent time in the backyard. The glamping tent still stood firm by the lake.
"If you think so. But, won’t you feel bad after so long? When will you fly to... Sicily? Within this week, right?"
Calix and Calliope happily played in the lake while Leslie stayed inside the tent. She was on the phone with Irene. The teenager’s voice rang from the end of the line.
Leslie and Irene had been chatting for over ten minutes already. The former was worried about the high school girl’s situation at home despite getting reassuring texts from Irene since yesterday.
Thankfully, Irene would be away from this country soon. Her friend Lydia invited her and another friend, Rubi to Sicily. Lydia’s family had a summer villa on the scenic island.
"We’ll fly there this Wednesday morning. Big Sister! I can’t wait ah! I’ll bring souvenirs back for you, Poppy and my brother-in-law."
"Focus on your vacation ah. Two weeks is a long time... Don’t think too much about what might happen later."
"Hehe, okay~"
Irene’s joyful laughter slipped into Leslie’s hearing. The teenager sounded very happy about the idea of going away soon. Summer break officially started tomorrow Monday.
Leslie had only met Lydia and Rubi once before. It was a one-sided meeting because she was still in her soul form[01].
At the same time, Leslie heard about the two teenagers from Irene through their frequent phone calls and text exchanges. Her younger sister was in a good friendship with Lydia and Rubi.
Once, Irene told Leslie how Lydia and Rubi defended her against a group of seniors. The third-year high schoolers stirred rumors about her shamelessly trying to woo a popular young male teacher.
Thankfully, the situation was quickly resolved. The disciplinary teacher demanded the seniors apologize to Irene and never cause such trouble again.
"I didn’t use much of my allowance these past two months. Lydia’s elder sister will be our guide. She’s currently studying there."
Irene’s words amused Leslie. She recalled Rowan giving the teenager a substantial amount of allowance every month to Irene, the same thing he did to Charlene.
Rowan continued doing so even after Charlene started working. He also provided credit cards for his daughters, separated from the allowance.
But, Charlene and Irene didn’t take this opportunity to waste money unnecessarily. The siblings were different than Gladys.
Geoffrey and Deena’s firstborn child often finished her allowance even before one week had passed, buying every expensive fashion item she could.
At the same time, Old Madam Li personally gifted Gladys a credit card with a high spending limit. The elderly woman wasn’t afraid of her favored granddaughter squandering the family’s wealth.
Shrugging, Leslie wondered how long Gladys could keep up being wasteful. The Li family’s fortune would be at stake soon.
"Don’t worry about it. Just ask me if you need more allowance."
"Hahaha! That sounds so good ah! Thank you, Big Sister~"
Leslie smiled in helplessness. She was genuinely relieved to know Irene would be far from the chaos that would fall on the Li family soon.
Well, she would just simply enjoy life in peace. Let the lawyers and authorities do their job.
