Chapter 407: Did She Just Ruin Her Own Image?
"H-hey! Help me to go back there ah."
Laughing in helplessness, Leslie slapped Calix’s chest when the man continued teasing her. Her rosy cheeks turned into a shade deeper. Splashes of water rose and fell around them, following their motions.
"Hehe~ You said we can save for later, right?" Calix raised his brows as he hugged Leslie close to him. Mischief continued flickering in his eyes, "Isn’t it, my sweet wife?"
Biting her lower lip, Leslie glared at Calix. Once again she smacked his chest, her palm landing on his naked torso. The heat of the sun-warmed skin seeped under hers.
"Yes... I’ve already told you ah," replied Leslie bashfully. The redness of her cheeks spread to her entire face, "Poppy and Eve are still here..."
Leslie darted her eyes behind Calix’s shoulders, looking at Calliope and Evelyn who were still playing with the ball. She inwardly sighed in relief seeing her daughter and sister-in-law were busy with each other.
"Consider it a deal."
"A-ah!"
Leslie yelped when Calix suddenly carried her, causing the water to splash higher. The sunlight beamed through the huge blobs of water, leaving glimmers in its wake.
Leslie hurriedly wrapped her arms around Calix’s neck, her legs dangling in the air. Her enlarged eyes reflected her shock.
"Calix! You scared me!"
"Hahaha!"
Calix’s roar of laughter rang across the lake, rising above the gentle lapping of water and the birds chirping. Calliope and Evelyn had already looked in his and Leslie’s direction, following the lady’s cry earlier.
"Geez... You’re helpless ah," Leslie complained. Having no strength to fight this shameless man, she nestled her head on his chest.
"Hahaha! I’m just being a good and affectionate husband to his wife ah," replied Calix without any ounce of shame. His eyes drifted to Leslie’s blushing countenance.
"...shameless."
Calix laughed once more. Leslie harrumphed, deciding to ignore this man.
Turning around, Calix steadily carried Leslie above the lake water. He chuckled at the sight of her reddened face.
The way she was glaring at him tickled his heart. He was also tempted to kiss her pouty lips.
"Little Aunt, Poppy wanna go to Papa and Mama," said Calliope while pointing to her parents. She saw them approaching.
Evelyn swiftly nodded. She threw the ball to the shore, "Let’s go to them."
"Yay~"
Calliope swam toward Calix and Leslie, kicking her short legs. Evelyn waded through the water, following the floating little dumpling closely. Both of them looked at the husband and wife.
"Mama, Papa~"
Calliope’s soft and milky voice caught Calix and Leslie’s attention. They collectively looked in that direction, seeing their daughter and Evelyn approaching.
"Aren’t you swimming too much already, Poppy?" Calix shook his head before gesturing toward the land with a tilt of his chin, "Why don’t we rest for a bit? Your mama is tired now."
"Oh! Okay!" Calliope quickly looked from Calix to Leslie. Her round eyes expressed her concern, "Mama, Mama feel cold? Poppy will hug Mama ah."
Leslie stifled her laughter, happy to know Calliope was thinking of her.
"Just a bit cold. Come now, Poppy. Swim to the bank..."
"Okay~"
Turning around, Calliope glid through the air, heading to the lake bank. Evelyn stayed in the same position. Blinking, she continued staring at Calix and Leslie.
"What?" Calix raised his brows. He took more steps forward, the water gently lapped against his abdomen, "You haven’t told us why you came here ah."
Leslie nodded, agreeing with Calix. She also thought Evelyn didn’t simply come here today just to play with Calliope.
"I’ll tell you guys in a bit."
Evelyn smiled sheepishly as she scratched the back of her neck. She darted her eyes from her elder brother to her sister-in-law. She inwardly thought how affectionate the couple was, much to her delight.
Still, she wanted to tease them ah.
Evelyn’s sheepish look turned into a teasing one. Raising her brows, she said, "If you guys need some alone time here, I can bring Poppy inside."
"..."
Calix and Leslie’s flushed looks made Evelyn laugh. She continued teasing the husband and wife.
"No need to be shy ah~ I saw what you two did earlier."
"..."
Froze by Evelyn’s words, Calix and Leslie stiffly looked from the laughing actress to each other. Their awkward looks further entertained Evelyn.
"Hahaha! I’ll go to Poppy!"
Turning around, Evelyn hurriedly ran to Calliope. The floating little dumpling had reached the bank.
Evelyn’s laughter reverberated in the backyard, expressing her joy in teasing the couple. The water splashed around, rising into high arcs before swiftly falling.
Mortified, Leslie drew her arms from Calix’s neck to cover her blushing face. The embarrassment of being caught by Evelyn curled her toes in shame.
Aaaa!
Blinking, Calix coughed awkwardly. His eyes drifted to Leslie. Her actions brought a helpless smile to his lips.
"Why? Feels like burying your face inside a hole somewhere?"
Calix’s teasing question earned a timid reply from Leslie. Her face was still hidden behind her palms.
"...yes."
Should she just throw herself into the lake?
Aaaa!
Shaking her head, Leslie quickly leaned her face against Calix’s chest, acting as if she wanted to hide from the world. Her behavior earned chuckles from him.
"Hehe, get used to it ah," Calix tightened his arms around Leslie’s frame, "But, you’re so cute when you’re embarrassed like this, wifey."
Pursing her lips, Leslie sensed how Calix’s chest vibrated because of his laughter. Her toes kept curling in shame.
"My image... Did I just ruin my image in front of Eve?" whined Leslie pitifully. Her ears caught more laughter from Calix as the sound echoed above her head.
Calix lowered his head, bringing his lips closer to Leslie’s ear. As he whispered, his warm breath gently fanning on one side of her head.
"She’ll only think her brother and her sister-in-law are in a good marriage. Trust me."
"..."
Leslie blinked a few times before slowly turning her face to look at Calix. The man’s soft smile greeted her eyesight before it eventually found its way into her heart.
"W-well, you’re not wrong..." Leslie stuttered, trying to sound casual amid her bashfulness "We’re indeed in a good marriage ah."
"Hehe, that’s right, my sweet wife."
Calix’s endearment tickled Leslie’s heart. She shyly smiled back at him.
