Chapter 404: Mr. Xu, Don’t Gawk At Me

"Hahaha! Papa! Mama! Look!"

Calliope’s merry laughter rang across the lake. The echoes harmonized with the chirping of the birds nearby and the gentle water lapping.

Relying on her adorable pink float ring secured around her waist, Calliope happily kicked the water. She excitedly waved one of her hands at her mama and papa. Her gleeful face was reflected in the lake.

"Don’t go too far!" shouted Calix, followed by a helpless smile on his lips. He draped a towel on his shoulders. His body was wet from his previous swimming.

"Poppy just play here ah!"

Calliope yelled back. She continued kicking the water while moving around the particular spot of the lake. More giggles flowed out of her small mouth.

Leslie and Calix sat by the lake, soaking their feet in the clear water. They looked in the direction of where Calliope was swimming. The little one only played in the shallow part of the lake.

The sun had already reached the top of the sky, outpouring its dazzling lights alongside its scorching heat. The surface of the blue lake glimmered like a field of tiny diamonds.

The family of three had been in the backyard since morning. Earlier, Leslie and Calix read novels while Calliope read her storybooks.

Then, the father and daughter began taking a dip in the lake. The mother remained sitting on the chair while continuing the novel.

"Don’t you want to go in?" Calix asked Leslie after drinking half a glass of the cool watermelon juice, "No need to go too far from here."

Blinking, Leslie stared at Calix.

Water dripped from his hair. The droplets slid down from his temple to his chest. He seemed satisfied after having a good swim earlier.

Calix’s suggestion sounded tempting. Leslie had already worn a one-piece swimsuit in the color lilac under her pastel green cotton dress.

Well, she indeed missed the sensation of gliding freely in the water. Even though she couldn’t swim as usual yet, simply walking in the shallow parts was enough for now.

"Only if you assist me," replied Leslie with a smile.

"Of course. I’m always readily available to help my wife."

Calix winked playfully. His action earned giggles from Leslie.

As Calix and Leslie talked to each other, Calliope swam closer until she reached the water’s edge. Holding the float ring with both of her hands, she walked to Leslie and Calix.

Water droplets trickled from Calliope’s small body clad in a cute pink swimwear with ruffles. She smiled brightly at her parents once they noticed her. She paused right before her mother.

"Poppy, wanna drink water?" asked Leslie while reaching for a small towel. She gently wiped Calliope’s wet face.

Shaking her head, Calliope giggled, "Papa and Mama~ Come and swim together ah."

Calix played in the water with Calliope earlier. The father and daughter swam further away from the shore while splashing water playfully at one another.

When Calix decided to return to the land, he brought Calliope to the shallow areas of the lake. He persuaded the little one to continue swimming near the shore when Calliope initially refused.

"Our princess is already calling for us," Calix rose to his feet before pulling Leslie to stand alongside him, "Come now."

Soft chuckles rolled out between Leslie’s lips. She slowly took off the cotton dress, revealing her figure clad in the swimsuit to the passing breeze. A deeper shade of red tinted her cheeks.

"Give your dress to me."

Calix froze for a second once he realized how huskier his voice had become. Leslie also noticed it.

"En..."

Calix quietly took the dress from Leslie, their fingers grazing momentarily. He put the clothes on one of the chairs surrounding the picnic blanket, next to his white collared shirt.

Returning to Leslie’s side, Calix carefully grasped her waist while holding one of her arms. He inwardly told himself not to look too intently at her slender figure hugged by the swimsuit, tracing every one of her alluring curves.

Well, he was not a sleazy man who often checked on women’s figures. But, he couldn’t afford to be indifferent to his sweetheart ah.

Even seeing her in her usual loose dress could make his imagination go wild.

Urgh... He felt so sinful now.

Leslie quietly followed Calix’s gaze. Her cheeks reddened once she realized he was eyeing her from head to toe. He seemed not to notice his own behavior.

"Mr. Xu, don’t gawk at me ah."

"...cough!"

Shaking his head, Calix subtly stared at Leslie’s face. Her blushing cheeks resembled the rose petals blooming in the flower beds. She also put one arm around his tapered waist.

"Sorry..."

Leslie chuckled, her cheeks were still rosy. She gestured to the lake with a tilt of her chin.

Calliope had already dipped in the water again. Her round eyes were openly staring at her bashful papa and mama.

"Didn’t you invite me to swim together? Or are you too charmed by me?" asked Leslie, her tone had a hint of teasing despite her rosy cheeks. She loved seeing Calix’s flustered look.

Calix shrank his neck. He mumbled, "I did... What to do? You’re too captivating, wifey."

"Hahaha!"

Calix smiled shyly as Leslie playfully smacked his arm. He carefully led Leslie to the shore before planting their feet on the ground below the water. Calliope’s face brightened once she saw her parents entering the lake.

"Mama~ Papa~ Here!"

Kicking the water, Calliope swam closer to Leslie and Calix. The husband and wife continued walking until the water reached Leslie’s waist.

"What to play? What to play?"

Calliope swam in a round, happily raising her short legs up and down from the lake. Splashes of water rose in the air before falling.

"Let’s just swim around here," Calix laughed at the sight of the cheery Calliope, "We can..."

"HEY! I’M BACK, EVERYONE!"

The loud shout caught Calix, Leslie and Calliope’s attention. All three of them collectively looked in the direction of the familiar voice, surprised to find a figure clad in yellow.

"Huh?"

"Little Aunt! Come here! Come here!"

Donning a yellow bikini and a kimono-style cardigan, Evelyn was half-walking and half-running toward the lake. Her sudden appearance caught everyone off guard.
