Chapter 402: The Perfect Way to Enjoy a Hot Summer Day

Two days ago, Calix told Uncle Raymond to gather some supplies. He intended to surprise Leslie and Calliope with a glamping by the lake this Saturday morning.

Aside from intending to create another memorable time with his wife and daughter before his business trip, Calix also wished to divert Leslie’s attention from her confrontation with the Li family.

Thankfully, she felt better than his initial expectations.

Most of the things were readily available in the manor but, Uncle Raymond still needed to buy a few more things. The middle-aged man got everything in order and transported the items to the garage nearest to the lake.

Calix had already set up the tent and created a cozy atmosphere inside the tent when Leslie, Calliope and Aunt Wendy appeared. He was simply checking the secureness of the tent.

"Wow~ Papa! Are we camping?"

Calliope ran deng deng deng across the lawn before throwing herself to Calix. The man burst into laughter as he caught the little dumpling before carrying her up. He had already dropped the hammer to the ground.

Patting Calliope’s head, Calix happily exclaimed, "Yes! We can be lazy here today! Hahaha! Does it sound good?"

"Yes! Can Poppy get books and toys here?"

"Of course, you can."

"Hehe, thank you, Papa~"

More hearty laughter rang in the morning air, coming from the excited father and daughter. Leslie and Aunt Wendy exchanged helpless smiles as they approached the tent area.

"When did you wake up and set this up?" asked Leslie once she reached the spot, throwing her gaze around.

The spreading canopy of the tree nearby sheltered everyone from the ascending sun. As the rays were filtered by the swaying leaves, the dappled sunlight was cast on the surrounding area.

The morning breeze was cooler under the shade of the tree. The stellar view of the lake was the perfect scenery for this surprise camping.

Lowering Calliope to the ground, Calix smilingly answered Leslie, "Before six. Hehe, Uncle Raymond helped me to get some items and set up this tent. He has just left ah. Wifey, come here."

Aunt Wendy discreetly left the backyard after saying she would bring the breakfast out. Calix pushed Leslie’s wheelchair to the front area of the tent.

"Oh! Now I can see it clearly!"

Gasping in awe, Leslie looked up from left to right. The genuine look of wonder on her countenance softened Calix’s smile.

"Are you excited?"

"Absolutely!"

The huge A-shaped tent extended beyond the shelter of the tree, standing firm on the ground. It could perfectly fit more than five people inside and still leave comfortable space for them.

A foldable mattress, soft blankets and plush pillows were arranged neatly inside, including several other items. Leslie also spotted a portable fan and a small table by the bed.

"Oh, you even put some lanterns..."

Leslie smilingly looked at the glass lanterns hanging inside the tent. Their glow appeared very warm and inviting.

"Hehe, for a perfect final touch."

Calix opened the flaps wide and secured their position by tying the ropes tightly to the small poles hammered into the ground. He placed a carpet right before the entrance.

"We can have breakfast there," Calix pointed in a direction, "Hehe, you can read books in peace too."

Leslie’s eyes followed where Calix was pointing. Chuckles escaped her lips at the sight of a picnic blanket, three lounge chairs and one table near the water’s edge. A mason jar of wildflowers was placed on the table.

"Wow~ You’re well prepared. You even put a centerpiece there. It’s really a nice place... to be lazy."

Leslie smiled meaningfully at Calix. Her praise earned a smug look from him.

"Anything for my wife and daughter."

While the husband and wife exchanged fond smiles, a certain dumpling ran around the picnic mat before stopping right before the lakebank.

Calliope crouched before curiously looking into the lake. Her face was reflected on the clear water. An idea crossed her mind at the sight of the shimmers glimmering under the sunlight.

"Mama, Papa, can Poppy swim?"

Leslie and Calix broke their eye contact before looking in the direction of Calliope’s voice.

They saw the little one squatting at the lakebank. Her tiny feet were planted on the rocks and pebbles by the water’s edge.

"You wanna swim, Poppy?"

Calix raised his brows, throwing the question back to his daughter.

"Yes!"

Calliope hurriedly nodded a few times, her eyes sparkled in anticipation, resembling the twinkling of the lake showered by the rays of light.

The little one had begun to imagine herself floating on the lake with a huge bowl of cool strawberries waiting for her on the picnic mat.

Wasn’t that the most perfect way to enjoy a hot summer day?

Calix and Leslie exchanged another gaze, this time amusement flickering in their eyes. They unisonly agreed that their daughter’s puppy eyes were hard to resist.

"After breakfast, okay? Poppy, you need to change into your swimwear and get your floaties first. No need to shower yet if you don’t want to."

Calix’s words were well received by the delighted Calliope.

"Yay! Okay~"

Calix made sure everything was perfectly set up before returning to the manor with Leslie and Calliope. The sun continued rising above the horizon, basking the city under its dazzling rays.

The happy little dumpling jumped and danced in between walking. Her antics earned helpless chuckles from her parents. She didn’t stop until all three of them reached the manor.

Calliope quickly disappeared inside her bedroom once they arrived on the second floor. Calix followed Leslie to her chamber instead of going to his.

"You don’t want to swim, en?" asked Calix as he took one of the summer dresses hanging inside the closet, the one pointed by Leslie.

"I still can’t, tho it does sound tempting," Leslie chuckled while reaching for the dress handed by Calix, "Maybe I’ll soak my feet while reading by the lake. And you!"

Calix stared back at Leslie when she suddenly narrowed her eyes as if warning about something through her gaze.

"En? What?"

"Don’t suddenly pull me into the lake ah."

Calix was momentarily caught off guard before bursting into laughter.

"...hahaha! You still think about that?"

Leslie’s cheeks flushed red at the sight of Calix’s merry look. Bending down in front of her, he grasped both knees while looking into her eyes.

"Don’t you want to soak with your husband, en?"

Blinking, Leslie was overly conscious of Calix’s low and seductive tone. The way he was staring at her sped her heartbeat. Heat emanated on her flushed cheeks before spreading down to her neck.

"...I can’t swim yet," replied Leslie weakly. She couldn’t imagine how red her face was right now.

Calix chuckled, amused by Leslie’s blushing look. Placing one of his palms on her face, he gently traced his thumb under her eye.

"I’ll support you. We can walk in the shallow area. How’s that?"

The warmth on his palm and the softness in his voice beguiled her. Without realizing it, she nodded once.

"Hehe, good. You can wear your swimsuit under your dress ah."

"Okay..."

Calix let out another chuckle. Leslie pursed her lips once she noticed what she had done.

Hopefully, she could focus on enjoying the cool lake’s water instead of only being drawn to her husband’s perfect figure ah.
