Chapter 401: Was He Influenced by the Recent Dreams?
Lifting his eyelids, Calix’s blurry sight slowly regained its clarity. He rubbed his eyes a few times, trying to chase the lingering sleepiness away.
Despite being a weekend morning, his body clock automatically woke him up around the dawnbreak.
’The same coincidences again.’
Calix exhaled a sigh, not sure how he should react to the new dream he experienced last night. But, he no longer felt too disturbed by them as he gradually accepted their uncanny presence.
The unfamiliar man and woman.
And... the few coincidences he began to notice.
The mysteries behind those dreams would eventually be revealed, sooner or later. He had faith in himself no matter how little progress the search showed.
Pushing any thoughts about the new dream to the back of his mind, Calix glanced to his left. His eyes fell on the pair of mother and daughter.
’Still sleeping. How cute.’
Calix curled his lips as he looked at the sleeping Leslie and Calliope. The mother and daughter huddled together under the blanket, seemingly still deep in their slumber.
Their soft breathing echoed in the quiet room, reminding him of how peaceful his heart would be whenever he was with them.
Glancing at the wall clock, Calix was glad to know the time had only hit five-forty in the morning. He had something planned today and it was best to start before Leslie and Calliope were awake.
"...yum... yummy cookies."
Smacking her lips, Calliope turned from facing Leslie to lying on her back. She kicked the blanket away, revealing her short legs. The little one’s three toys were arranged on the headboard.
Calliope often talked about food while sleeping, no matter what kind of delicacies it was. Calix and Leslie had gotten used to their daughter’s funny sleep talk but, it didn’t mean her gags no longer amused them.
Suddenly, Calliope slipped her small palm under her cute pajamas. She rubbed her chubby belly while muttering, "Strawberry tart... Poppy want one ah..."
"Hehe..."
Calix covered his mouth, trying to hold back from laughing. He was afraid of waking the mother and daughter up. The little one’s antics tickled his heart even when she was sleeping.
Smiling in helplessness, Calix carefully adjusted Calliope’s sleeping posture before tucking her in the blanket. He also pulled the duvet to cover Leslie.
His eyes lingered on her face, taking in the serenity that radiated from her countenance.
"I’m glad you look well. I really do," whispered Calix, earnestly speaking from his heart. He gently ran his fingertips over her bangs.
Leslie was a crying mess during her impromptu meeting with Rowan and Bianca before the festival[01]. Despite trying to act tough, she broke down in the end.
Recalling that day struck Calix’s heart with pain. He could only guess Leslie was forced to relive the torment from all those painful memories as they rushed out of their hiding place.
Fortunately, the same thing didn’t happen last night.
Leslie was genuinely fine from the beginning to the end. In fact, she seemed to enjoy confronting the Li family before looking relieved for finally achieving her goal last night.
’My sweetheart is a strong lady.’
Curling up his lips, Calix carefully lowered his upper body. He gently caressed one side of Leslie’s face with one hand before dropping a light kiss on her forehead.
"I’m proud of you, sweetheart."
Sweetheart.
Among many endearments that existed, Calix yearned to address Leslie with such a name.
Was it another coincidence?
Or, was he actually influenced by the recent dreams?
Calix didn’t know the answer yet nor he cared.
After making sure Leslie and Calliope were safely tucked in the blanket, Calix quietly slid out of bed. He grabbed his private phone from the bedside table before making his way out of the room.
The horizon was brightened by the ascending sun, coloring the city’s sky in the shades of ruby, amber, violet and magenta. Another long summer day began.
"Thank goodness. Uncle Raymond has put everything there," murmured Calix. He checked the latest chat from Uncle Raymond.
Calix needed to hurry before the temperature rose following the end of the nighttime. Half-running to his room down the hallway, excitement bubbling in his heart. The lights in the hallway sprinkled on his back.
Leslie and Calliope didn’t wake up until another hour. The former stirred awake first before the little one followed.
"Mama... good morning..."
A drowsy Calliope greeted Leslie before rolling closer to the latter. She heard her mother’s soft laughter echoing above her small head.
"Good morning, my darling."
Stroking Calliope’s back, Leslie kissed the little one’s head. Her eyes drifted from her daughter to the other side of the bed.
"Oh, your papa has gone..."
"En?"
Rubbing her eyes, Calliope turned to look at where Calix was supposed to be sleeping. Her mouth formed a round shape once she saw her papa was nowhere to be seen.
"Where’s Papa?"
Didn’t Papa sleep next to her?
Where did he go ah?
"Perhaps on his morning run," replied Leslie without thinking much. After all, the man rarely skipped his morning exercise routine.
"Let’s wake up and go to your papa," Leslie patted Calliope’s bum twice. Slowly sitting up on the bed, she grinned, "First thing first, you need to brush your teeth and..."
"Wash Poppy’s face!"
Calliope raised both of her hands as she exclaimed loudly. Leslie burst into laughing. She smooched her daughter’s small face a few times, earning giggles from the little one.
"Hehehe~ Mama, tickle ah!"
"Aww~ Mama’s darling is so cute~"
"Hahaha!"
Calliope’s giggles resonated in the room, followed by Leslie’s laughter. The mother and daughter enjoyed a lovely time between themselves before they finally left the bed.
Leslie and Calliope went downstairs after refreshing themselves. They bumped into Aunt Wendy as soon as they headed out of the home elevator.
"Granny Wendy, good morning~"
Aunt Wendy chuckled before returning Calliope’s greeting. The little one giggled when the housekeeper patted her head.
"Where’s Calix?" asked Leslie, "Exercising in the backyard?"
"Mr. Calix is busy with something," Aunt Wendy grinned. She looked at Leslie and Calliope alternatively, "Well, he said I don’t need to keep it secret so, how about I escort you to the backyard?"
"En?"
Leslie exchanged a glance with Calliope. The little dumpling seemed interested in what Aunt Wendy had just told them.
"Let’s go and see what your papa is doing?"
"Yes~"
The mother and daughter headed to the backyard with the housekeeper. Both of them wondered what the man was working on.
The fresh morning breeze welcomed Leslie, Calliope and Aunt Wendy in the backyard. The three of them hadn’t crossed halfway of the distance when they spotted Calix by the lake.
And...
"Wow! Papa built a tent!"
The child’s happy tone rang in the air. The wind carried her voice to the man who seemed busy putting a huge tent under the tree.
Calix paused from his task. Looking in the direction of Calliope’s voice, he saw his wife and daughter including Aunt Wendy.
"Oh! Leslie! Poppy!"
Jumping to his feet, Calix excitedly waved one of his hands while the other held a small hammer. A beige-colored tent stood on the patch of land facing the lake.
Leslie laughed in helplessness. She didn’t expect to wake up to see Calix pitching up a tent.
Hehe, seemed like today would be a camping day for them.
