Chapter 389: Oh~ Her Pitiful Husband

"Good morning, wifey~"

"Mama, good morning!"

Stirring awake from her sleep, Leslie rubbed her sleepy eyes when her ears caught the cheerful greetings. A helpless chuckle escaped her lips as she fondly looked at the two people who happily greeted her as soon as she woke up.

Aside from Calix, there was another addition on this bed.

It seemed like Calliope came sneaking inside this bedroom, most likely when both of them were still sleeping. The little dumpling had done this several times before.

"Good morning... You two woke up so early ah."

Leslie covered her yawning mouth, her eyes teary. She was so tempted to continue sleeping but, she quickly chased the idea away.

Slowly sitting up on the bed, Leslie peeked at the wall clock. The blanket fell from her body, pooling around her waist. The clock hands pointed to a little before six.

"Time for morning exercise ah. Poppy wanna join me."

"Mama, come with us too!"

Calix and Calliope had the same grin on their faces as they looked expectantly at Leslie.

The man had just woken up the little one for their morning adventure in the backyard. They didn’t expect to see the lady waking up as well.

Leslie silently stared at the father and daughter. The look of expectation in their eyes amused her.

"Alright. Let’s get some morning air..." Leslie extended a hand to caress Calliope’s head. Smiling, she asked the little one with tenderness in her voice, "Poppy, did you sleep well?"

"Hehe, Poppy sleep well~" Calliope tilted her head, enjoying how her mother pampered her from the early morning, "Poppy dream of clouds and candies ah. All look cute! Now Poppy want cotton candies."

Leslie laughed while shaking her head. She could imagine Calliope enjoying all the candies in her dream while rolling and jumping on the puffy clouds.

"Let’s get ready, shall we?" Calix clapped his hands once. Sliding out of the bed, he moved his gaze from Leslie to Calliope, "Wanna have breakfast by the lake?"

"Want!"

"Sounds good..."

"I’ll tell Aunt Wendy."

After telling Calliope to change out of her nightgown, Calix helped Leslie to the washroom. The lady wanted to refresh herself before joining the father and daughter in the backyard.

Calix waited for Leslie outside the washroom, unable to stop himself from smiling foolishly as he recalled last night’s events. Once she appeared at the door, he perked up. His happy glow shone brighter.

"You know, I’ve always wanted to do this."

Blinking, Leslie stared back at Calix as he carried her to the walk-in wardrobe. She could tell he looked happier than usual.

"Doing what?" asked Leslie with a helpless smile.

Grinning, Calix leaned his face closer to Leslie before kissing her cheek. Words flowed out of his mouth once he drew his lips away.

"A good morning kiss."

Perplexed, Leslie stared blankly at Calix’s beaming countenance. Her lips shivering, she ended up bursting into laughter.

One of her hands playfully slapped his shoulder, prompting him to laugh along.

"Hahaha! Hehe... oh, my pitiful husband."

Placing one palm on Calix’s face, Leslie dropped a kiss on his cheek in response. She continued laughing at the sight of his beaming face.

"Happy now?" Leslie asked teasingly, "To get your wish fulfilled?"

"Hehe, of course."

Calix lowered Leslie to the vanity chair. He wanted to brush her hair but, got shooed away instead.

"Go and get ready..." Leslie took the hairbrush from Calix’s hand, her smiling eyes lingered on his face, "Please call Mrs. An for me."

"Okay~"

Calix hummed to a tune as he left the room. His action earned chuckles from Leslie. She didn’t expect to see a much happier him as soon as she woke up this morning.

The family of three went to the backyard ten minutes later. Aunt Wendy would serve breakfast at the pavilion by the lake at seven. The time right now was closing to six-fifteen.

The brilliance of the morning sun dawned on them as they strolled in the backyard. The dew drops sparkled under the sunlight, casting shimmers all over the place.

"Go, Papa! Go!"

Calliope cheered for Calix as she watched him doing push-ups. She tried to mimic her papa’s behavior but, she ended up falling on her stomach instead.

Sitting in the wheelchair, Leslie took a shade under the tree standing by the deck.

Calix didn’t jog around the lake as usual. He only did a couple of exercises near the wooden deck while appreciating his wife and daughter admiring him. His happiness index had indeed spiked through the roof.

Seeing the genuine happiness on Calix’s face settled a part of Leslie’s uneasy heart. She couldn’t help but think of tomorrow Friday.

Just a little bit more, she would be free from the damn Li family. For some reason, she couldn’t wait to see how they would react upon seeing her in the flesh.

No matter what, it would be an enjoyable show.

"The food is here~ Go and wash your hands ah."

Leslie saw Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond approaching from the manor. The middle-aged man carefully pushed a three-tiered food trolley while his wife walked alongside him.

Jumping to his feet, Calix quickly lifted Calliope from the ground. The little dumpling’s initial startling gasp changed to laughter.

"Hurry and wash our hands!"

"Wash our hands!"

Leslie chuckled at the sight of the father and daughter rushing to the nearby water faucet. Calix still carried Calliope as he slightly bent down to let the little one rub her small palms under the running water.

"Aaa! Papa, it’s cold!"

"Hahaha! Wash your face again ah!"

Calix and Calliope bantered when the man suddenly splashed water on the little one’s face. She abruptly raised her small hands to return the same gesture.

"Hahaha! Papa’s face wet too!"

"Cheeky. How about Papa toss you into the lake? You haven’t showered, don’t you?"

"No! Cold!"

Leslie wasn’t the only one laughing at Calliope and Calix’s banter. Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond also were the same. They finally reached the wooden deck area.

"Aiya, they’re so loud even in the morning," Uncle Raymond pretended to complain. His words earned chuckles from Aunt Wendy and Leslie.

"What to do when one’s acting like a child?" replied Aunt Wendy jokingly.

The husband and wife always thought of how this manor used to be so quiet in the past. The lady and the child’s presence helped elevate the mood of this entire place.

Hopefully, for more future days to come.
