Chapter 388: The Little Dumpling Sneaking Around
"Haa...Mimo, good morning~ Mr. Dragon and Berry, good morning too~"
Letting out a long yawn without covering her round mouth, Calliope rubbed her sleepy eyes. She didn’t forget to greet her beloved crochet fox toy before doing the same for the dragon plushie and strawberry crochet toy.
"Hurm... I want some cotton candies..."
Thinking back on her dream, Calliope drooled at the thought of having pink cotton candies. She patted her bulging tummy, hoping to get some yummies today.
Calliope rolled on her stomach while looking at the bunny-shaped clock sitting on the bedside table. She wondered what time was it.
The strings of fairy lights hung on the hut-shaped bed and the underbed lights illuminated the entire bedroom, including the clock.
"Ah, still so early ah."
The clock showed a quarter past five. Being summer, the sun had risen from the skyline as early as five in the morning. The golden glow showered the city under its radiance.
The time was indeed very early for a young child like Calliope but, she no longer wanted to stay in bed. Her body might be in bed but her soul had already wandered outside.
Running in circles in the backyard. Watching the bees flew around the flower beds. Peeking at the little frogs jumping at the lake.
Everything was so much fun!
Still lying on her stomach, Calliope swung her short legs up and down several times. Her disheveled long hair splayed in every direction, the bangs messy on her round forehead.
"Mama and Papa still sleep?"
Murmuring under her breath, Calliope wondered about Calix and Leslie. The last time she saw her parents was before dinner yesterday.
"Poppy miss Mama and Papa ah."
Despite knowing Calix and Leslie would most likely come home late, Calliope wanted to stay up to wait for them. But, she also promised her papa to listen to Granny Wendy well.
Thus, Calliope obediently went to bed when Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond told her to. She didn’t stay past her usual bedtime.
The little dumpling’s attention diverted from her parents to the bedtime stories Mrs. An read. She didn’t notice when she fell asleep.
"Mimo, I wanna go to Mama and Papa ah."
Instead of sitting up, Calliope rolled toward the left side of the mattress. She slid out of bed before wearing her cute home slippers. Deng deng deng, she ran toward the ensuite washroom.
Calliope used the toilet, washed her face and brushed her teeth before combing her long hair. She didn’t feel like taking a shower yet.
"Mimo! Come~"
Running out of the washroom, Calliope grabbed Mimo before rushing to the door. She saw Leslie’s bedroom door as soon as she opened hers. Hurriedly crossing the hallway, she grabbed the door handle.
Creak...
Calliope peeked her head inside once she pushed the door open. She heard nothing aside from her parents’ faint breathing. They were still deep in sleep.
"Mimo," Calliope whispered to the red fox toy, "Mama and Papa still sleep. Shhh..."
Slowly closing the door behind, Calliope walked further inside before she saw Calix and Leslie lying on the bed. None of them noticed the little one’s appearance.
Calliope tossed Mimo on the bed before crawling up. As she kneeled on the mattress, her round eyes openly stared at the sleeping Calix and Leslie.
"Mama and Papa sleep hugging ah. Not fair."
Calliope’s eyes glinted with mischief when one idea crossed her mind. She crawled on all fours toward Calix and Leslie before sneaking her way in between them.
"Hehehe~"
Calliope giggled once she successfully lay between her parents. She didn’t notice one of them was stirred awake by her movements.
"Poppy, what are you doing here?"
"...Papa!"
Gasping, Calliope abruptly covered her mouth. Her widened eyes stared at Calix in shock, never expecting her papa to wake up this soon.
Calliope’s reaction earned a lazy smile from Calix. He sat up while adjusting his position to give the little one more space. His eyes darted to Leslie before returning to their daughter.
"Wanna sleep with Papa and Mama?"
"Hehe, yes~"
"Okay. Here."
Smiling in helplessness, Calix pulled the blanket to cover Calliope’s small body. He was amused to be woken up by this kind of small and adorable intervention.
"Close your eyes ah," Calix lightly pinched Calliope’s nose, earning laughter from the little one, "Wanna exercise with Papa in half an hour?"
"Hehe, want!"
Calix put one finger on his lips, "Shh... Your mama’s still sleeping."
"...!"
Calliope abruptly closed her eyes as Calix patted her. The man was still sitting up on the bed. Her papa’s gentle patting lured her back to sleep despite feeling all refreshed earlier.
Calix’s smile deepened as he realized Calliope had fallen asleep. Tearing his eyes away from the little one, he silently drifted his gaze to Leslie next.
’Hehe, I feel like a silly man in love ah.’
This was not the first time Calix woke up with Leslie and Calliope by his side. But, the following effect behind his successful confession to Leslie last night certainly made him feel better and happier than usual.
Despite being shrouded by bliss, Calix hadn’t forgotten what would transpire soon.
’Finally. The D-Day is tomorrow.’
Frowning, Calix’s initially happy expression sank slightly. His mind wandered to his and Leslie’s plan for tomorrow evening – confronting the Li family.
Calix contacted Old Madam Li herself at the start of this week. He acted as if he was a filial grandson-in-law to the matriarch, saying he was sorry for not meeting the old lady as many as he could.
"Your grandmother here is sad ah. We haven’t met in months. Have you forgotten I’m your grandmother too?"
Calix received Old Madam Li’s nagging without any retort. He wanted to lower the old lady’s guard around him.
"Why don’t we have a family dinner? I want to invite everyone, including Second Uncle Geoffrey’s family. Grandmother-in-law, what do you think?"
"That sounds so good. Alright, when should we meet?"
Old Madam Li swiftly accepted Calix’s invitation. He promised to give her the details soon.
Because Leslie didn’t want to step foot inside the Li family’s ancestral home, Calix booked a private room at a restaurant renowned for its authentic Thai cuisine. The place would serve as a neutral spot for both sides.
For the first time in months, the Li family would meet a conscious Leslie.
