Leslie’s words widened Calix’s eyes in astonishment. He stared at her smiling profile without saying anything as if his speech was robbed from him.

What did she say?

Did she just say that...

"Hehe, surprised?"

Leslie playfully patted one side of Calix’s face, amused to see such a dumbfounded reaction from him. Her chuckles rang in the quiet bedroom as she continued locking eyes with the man.

Pulling himself out of his trance, Calix rapidly blinked his eyes. Despite understanding the meaning behind Leslie’s words, he couldn’t help but be surprised.

Leslie... she had such thoughts before? Toward him?

Calix parted his trembling lips, wanting to say something but, no words flowed out from his mouth. Leslie’s shy smile was reflected in his widened eyes.

Aiya, she didn’t expect her words to have such an effect on him.

"I didn’t think I’d ever tell you this ah..." whispered Leslie as she ran the tips of her fingers on Calix’s face before tracing his straight nose bridge, "At least, not this early."

The thought crossed Leslie’s mind when she was immersed in the magic of the moment as she danced with Calix under the moonlight.

"Leslie, you... did you say..."

Raising one hand from Leslie’s waist, Calix slowly took her hand from his face. Without tearing his eyes away from hers, he interlocked their fingers together.

"...you thought you’d easily fall in love with me?"

Leslie’s cheeks flushed as Calix repeated those words. His usually mellow voice had a hint of huskiness, enough to suspend her heart before it pounded erratically in her chest.

Pursing her lips, Leslie bashfully peeled her eyes away from Calix’s face. Her gaze drifted to their interlocking fingers.

The warmth of his wide hand seeped under her skin, making her fully conscious of how intimate their postures were. Despite that, she loved the feeling of her small palm in his broad one.

Leslie returned her gaze to Calix’s eyes. The heat of his stare seemed to lure her toward him instead of pushing her away.

"Well... You’re a good man, Calix. Even though you could just ignore me, you didn’t. From the first day we met, you’ve always been thoughtful of me..."

Taking a brief pause, Leslie quietly took in the expression on Calix’s face. She believed her remarks just now made him eager to know more.

Leslie squeezed Calix’s hand. Her lips bloomed into a smile.

"I acted weirdly sometimes before but, you chose to believe in me... A man as good as you... How could I never think about falling in love with you?"

Leslie wished to make herself clearer to Calix, the man who harbored genuine feelings for her. Despite being unable to return the precious three words to him yet, she believed she would reach him soon.

Blinking, Calix fluttered his eyelids slowly as he tried to cement everything Leslie had just said in his mind and heart.

Once again at a loss for words, he released his hand from hers before pulling her even closer to him.

Calix buried Leslie’s face in his chest. Warmth and bliss made his heart swell before they eventually overflowed, flaring to every inch of his being.

"Thank you, Leslie... Thank you... Those words mean a lot to me."

Unsure what else he could say to her, Calix repeated his gratitude. Leslie’s soft laughter slipped into his mind as she patted his back. Her motion was gentle and calm.

"I welcome your courtship from now on, Mr. Xu," Leslie nuzzled her face on Calix’s chest, feeling more pleasant after telling him one of the secrets of her heart, "Let’s get to know each other better..."

"...yes. I’ll do my best to woo you."

Calix’s awkward tone and his choice of words earned another laughter from Leslie. Settling herself comfortably in his arms, she slowly closed her eyes.

"I’m sleepy... You need to sleep too, CEO Xu. You’ll be working tomorrow."

Leslie didn’t know what time it was but, she believed midnight was approaching. She had rehab sessions like usual while Calix had to go to the company as scheduled.

Calix ran his hand through Leslie’s long hair, feeling the silky locks slipping through his fingers. He quietly uttered, "Should I go to work late tomorrow?"

Perplexed, Leslie froze for a second before she playfully pinched Calix’s waist, "Don’t ever think about that! You have to be a good example... for your staff ah!"

Ticklish from Leslie’s pinch, Calix wrapped his arms tighter around her frame. He laughed when she smacked his back in protest.

"Stop fooling around."

Leslie’s warning received a shameless response from Calix.

"Hehe, I’m not fooling around. I’m hugging my wife to sleep."

Scoffing, Leslie ignored Calix’s chuckles. She was too drowsy to keep paying attention to him.

Sleep was better than entertaining this man!

Calix bit his lower lip, trying to hold back from laughing. He loosened his embrace so as not to suffocate Leslie. His eyes remained on top of her head as her face was obscured due to her pose.

So many things happened in the span of one night.

Calix’s fear made him doubt the success of his confession to Leslie. Yet, what he was frightened of didn’t happen.

Not only did he accomplish his goal but, he also learned more about her feelings.

Now that he was given an opportunity to reside in her heart, he wouldn’t ever waste this precious chance.

Lowering his chin, Calix softly kissed Leslie’s head. The sweet floral scent of her shampoo lingered on the tip of his nose, melting his lips into an affectionate smile.

"Good night, my lady."

Leslie’s faint breathing answered Calix’s whisper.

Closing his eyes, Calix wanted to be the first one to wake up and greet Leslie. He relished holding his beloved so close to him, to feel her warmth melded with his.

Despite having one inevitable problem.

For some reason, he had more difficulty than usual in feigning ignorance toward the rising heat in his lower body.

’Should I chant the sutra again? Or... take a cold bath?’

Wincing, Calix convinced himself this was just a sweet torture that would bear fruits for him sooner or later.
