Chapter 377: Would She Shine Brighter Later?

As anticipated by Leslie, she thoroughly enjoyed the festivity despite being exhausted by the end of the day.

The entire Xu family gathered to watch the dragon boat race from a specified spot. Calliope, Amelia and disguised Evelyn were the loudest when it came to cheering. They didn’t hold back at all as they cheered their favorite team.

After the dragon boat race ended, Calix, Leslie and Calliope joined Vernon, Lucille and Amelia to visit other areas. Evelyn didn’t follow them as she clung to their parents and grandmother.

Rows of stalls stood in an area. The hawkers sold food and drinks including setting up game booths. A huge part of the tourists headed to the stalls while the others continued enjoying their time at the beach.

"Papa, the ice cream looks delicious ah!"

"Daddy, Mia want the candied apple!"

The two little gluttons had their eyes set on the yummy foods sold by the hawkers. Calix and Vernon had difficulty in refusing their daughters’ requests, much to their wives’ helplessness.

"Your stomach will hurt if you eat a lot, Mia," Lucille smiled meaningfully at Amelia before looking at Vernon, "My dear husband, have you forgotten her upset stomach just two days ago?"

Vernon and Amelia exchanged a look before returning their eyes to Lucille. The woman was unfazed in front of the father and daughter’s pitiful looks.

Staring at Lucille’s sturdy defense against Vernon and Amelia’s puppy eyes, Leslie let out a chuckle. She said, "Seems like I should follow Sister Lucille ah... Don’t you think so, en?"

Calix and Calliope froze. The father and daughter felt their guts twisted under Leslie’s chilly smile. Her expression was the same as Lucille’s.

"Aha... ahaha... We won’t do that ah. Right, Poppy?" Calix patted Calliope’s back as he sensed danger from Leslie, "You won’t eat many junks, right?"

Nodding, Calliope hurriedly replied, "Poppy is a good girl ah. Poppy will listen to Mama. Will scold Papa if Papa buy junk food."

"..."

Gritting his teeth behind his smiling facade, Calix stared daggers at Calliope. He held back from pinching his daughter’s chubby cheeks.

Why did he get dragged into the mud ah?

In the end, both Calliope and Amelia were restricted to buying only two food each. As for the drinks, Leslie and Lucille agreed on cold mineral water and plain milk.

The children could get something else for lunch later.

The two families paused for short rests in between their little adventure. They also didn’t forget to take photos to immortalize this moment.

"Why don’t we head to the villa?" asked Vernon when they were chilling in front of the shore, "It’s getting hotter."

Despite everyone wearing hats, they could no longer stand the scorching temperature. Especially the children.

Amelia and Calliope still had the energy to play but, they looked clearly exhausted.

"It’s noon, no wonder ah," Calix glanced at his wristwatch, "Yeah, let’s go."

Calix and Vernon brought their families to where the van was waiting for them. Their parents, grandmother and younger sister had already headed to the villa. They even ordered lunch on the former group’s behalf.

"Leslie, how are you feeling?" asked Calix as he carried Calliope in one arm. One of the bodyguards pushed Leslie’s beach wheelchair.

"A bit sleepy," Leslie let out some laughter. She smilingly looked at Calix, "Aside from that, nothing..."

Seeing the glow of happiness on Leslie’s countenance deepened Calix’s smile.

Would she shine brighter in the moment he would orchestrate for them later?

Most of them spent the afternoon taking a nap after refreshed themselves.

Leslie and Calliope slept in the bedroom while Calix joined Andrian and Vernon playing Go in the lounge. Old Madam Xu, Harper, Lucille and Amelia were resting in their respective bedrooms.

Halfway through the game, the men received an unexpected guest.

"Aren’t you guys tired ah? Not resting even for a bit."

The familiar voice caught the men’s attention. Looking up from the Go board, they saw Old Madam Xu standing at the lounge entrance, comfortably in her casual wear. One of the helpers was with her.

"Mother, aren’t you napping?" Andrian stood up from the couch. He rushed to his elderly mother, "It hasn’t been two hours ah."

"Don’t nag at me," Old Madam Xu glared at Andrian. Taking a step forward, she said, "Can’t I talk to my grandsons here?"

"Yes, yes, you can," Andrian laughed in helplessness, "How can we turn our Empress Dowager away ah?"

Old Madam Xu scoffed. Ignoring her son, she walked toward the seating area. Andrian quickly followed from behind after dismissing the helper.

"Do you miss us already, Grandma?" asked Calix teasingly. Propping one hand on his thigh, he stared at Old Madam Xu, "Or, are you scheming something?"

Old Madam Xu lowered herself on the single-seater couch. She quietly darted her eyes from Andrian, and before before they settled on Calix.

"Let’s talk since it’s just us here," Old Madam Xu raised her wrinkly brows. With her eyes on Calix, she directly said, "About the Li family."

Blinking, Calix was caught in a momentary trace before his lips curled into a smirk. Mischief glinted in his eyes.

His grandmother rarely brought up about the Li family in front of him. She usually gave her input to his father before having the latter relay the info to him.

"Oho? What is it, Grandma? Haven’t Dad told you what’s our plan? Or, do you have something else to add?"

Old Madam Xu scoffed, knowing full well her second grandson wanted to pull more tricks on the Li family. Andrian and Vernon said nothing as they quietly waited for the old lady to speak more.

"Won’t you threaten the Li to transfer some assets to Leslie?" asked Old Madam Xu directly. After a brief pause, she added, "You should bleed them dry. Not just report them to the bureau."

Old Madam Xu didn’t care about the Li family’s assets. Even without those, she already planned to transfer some of her own to Leslie.

Her second granddaughter-in-law would be in the same standing as her grandchildren and first granddaughter-in-law.

Humming softly, Calix didn’t expect this would be Old Madam Xu’s question.

How would his grandmother react if she knew Leslie didn’t want any of the Li family’s assets?
