Chapter 376: Row, Row, Row Your Boat!

Enveloped in Calix’s embrace, Leslie quietly looked into his eyes, finding him returning the same gaze to her. She swore she could hear his heart pounded heavily despite him appearing calm.

Or, was it her heartbeat?

She couldn’t tell anymore.

The orange glow of the underbed lights illuminated the man’s frame, intertwining the lights and shadows on his countenance. She found herself mesmerized by his smiling face.

Calix let out a chuckle. Keeping his arm steadily behind Leslie’s back, he brushed her bangs with his other hand, letting his fingertips graze her forehead.

"Sleep," Calix softened his smile. His voice had a hint of suppressed joy, "We need to wake up earlier than usual."

Blinking, Leslie pursed her lips into a straight line. She was conscious of his muscular arms wrapping her frame. The heat emanating from his body seeped under her skin, further warming her up.

"You go to sleep too... Close your eyes ah..."

Leslie realized how meek her voice suddenly sounded. Unable to continue locking eyes with Calix, she lowered her gaze.

Only to find that she was staring straight at the man’s exposed chest.

Geez! Why didn’t he button his pajamas properly ah?

To seduce her?

Sensing Leslie’s bashfulness, Calix didn’t plan to tease her further. He was more than happy to have her in his arms, to have the distance between them continue shrinking.

"Yeah, I will sleep," Calix brought his hand away from Leslie’s bangs, draping it over her waist, "Good night, Leslie."

"Good night, Calix..."

Closing her eyes, Leslie told herself to imagine hugging a huge and tall bolster instead of a man. Even though she was still shy, she didn’t regret her decision to accept Calix’s request.

This man had become more open in showing her his affection. She couldn’t help but wonder what else would he do next.

No matter what it was, the idea of being closer to him didn’t repulse her. And, her thoughts were not influenced because of their daughter.

Safe.

She felt so safe whenever he was around.

Leslie eventually fell asleep as she nestled comfortably in Calix’s embrace. Her arms lightly grasped both sides of his pajamas. A faint smile curled on her lips, mirroring her serene heart.

’She’s sleeping.’

Slowly opening his eyes, Calix smiled in relief seeing how peaceful Leslie looked during sleeping. She fell asleep sooner than he initially expected.

Could he interpret this as her being comfortable to stay this close to him?

Calix actually thought Leslie would turn down his request. Even though they had slept while hugging each other before, the situation was different than this.

Holding back from laughing, Calix’s gaze lingered on Leslie’s countenance for a moment longer before slowly closing his eyes. He kept his arms secured around her, afraid she would slip away when he slept.

Their indistinct breaths softly intermingled, echoing faintly in the peaceful night air. As the time continued turning, the sun slowly rose above the horizon, welcoming the brand new day.

"Mr. Dragon Boat🎶 We’re coming🎵"

"To watch you glide against the current🎶"

"So row row row your boat🎵"

"And win victoriously🎶"

Calliope and Amelia happily sang their made-up song. Running in circles with their dragon plushies, their voices rang in the air of the pristine white beach.

The echoes of the passing breeze and the rolling waves harmonized with their singing.

The Xu family had just arrived at Silvercove Beach. Despite arriving ten minutes later than their initial estimation, the traffic flow was actually better than expected.

Thousands of tourists had started heading to where the dragon boat race would be held. The sea breeze carried the sounds of the blaring folks’ songs and people’s chattering.

Looking at Calliope and Amelia with a helpless gaze, Calix uttered, "They’re so energetic ah. We can’t let them out of our sight."

"We absolutely can’t. They can get lost even in one second."

"Yup, yup. Need to watch them closely ah."

Everyone unanimously agreed with Calix. Even though a few bodyguards tagged along, they had to be cautious when walking in the sea of people.

"Mother, are you really up to this?" asked Andrian while supporting Old Madam Xu. He concernedly added, "The weather’s hot."

"I want to see the race ah," Old Madam Xu smacked her son’s arm, annoyed. Adjusting her wide-brimmed hat, she said, "If I’m tired, I’ll drag you to the villa myself."

Andrian exhaled a sigh. His elderly mother didn’t welcome his worry well.

The Xu family immediately headed to the race area instead of going to the villa first. Because they would only stay for one night, they only brought two helpers along.

The staff wouldn’t be responsible for common chores like cooking and cleaning. They were only here just to assist Old Madam Xu and Leslie when necessary.

The family planned to order takeout for lunch before holding a barbecue party for dinner. As for breakfast tomorrow, Calix and Vernon would handle it.

"Mother isn’t that fragile ah. Should we go now?" Harper clapped her hands after comforting Andrian. Looking in a direction, she smilingly said, "Bring out the beach wheelchair."

Stunned, Leslie stared at Harper before her eyes drifted to Calix who stood next to her. As if he sensed her gaze, he lowered his eyes.

"Mom has someone prepared a beach wheelchair for you," whispered Calix, followed by a playful wink, "It’ll be easier for you to move."

Leslie was still in a daze. She had just thought about a beach wheelchair last night. She didn’t expect Harper to already prepare one for her.

"Mom, thank you so much..." Leslie smiled at Harper, her eyes softening. She had no other words to say to her mother-in-law.

Letting out a chuckle, Harper waved her hand, "No need to thank me ah. And, don’t think you’ll bother us. We’re here to enjoy the festival as a family, get it?"

"Okay, Mom..."

Leslie smiled gratefully at Harper. Unconsciously clenching her hands together, she held back from tearing up.

This little gesture of kindness had really touched her heart.

Logan brought out a beach wheelchair from the van ridden by Old Madam Xu, Andrian and Harper earlier. He placed it right before Leslie.

"Aren’t you happy, my wife?" Calix whispered as he helped Leslie to the new wheelchair.

"Hehe, I am..."

Giggling, Leslie had a hunch today would be memorable for her.
