Chapter 375: He Missed the Feeling From the Other Day

Every piece of evidence was ready with Andrian. Callix just needed to give him a heads-up about his meeting with the Li family next week.

"Papa~"

"Daddy~"

Calliope and Amelia came running toward the pavilion, holding some kind of plush toy each in their hands. Their whole face beamed with happiness, further brightened by the lights in the yard.

Hearing the little one’s happy voices, the three men all looked in their direction.

"Poppy and Mia, what are those?"

Calix caught Calliope when the little one threw herself at him. Picking her daughter up, he placed her on his lap. Vernon also did the same with Amelia.

"Great-Grandma give us! Dragon toy!"

Calliope showed off the plushie in her arms. Laughter continuously rolled out of her small mouth.

"Yup! Yup! Sister Poppy’s pink! Mia’s purple dragon!"

Old Madam Xu presented the plush dragon toys to Calliope and Amelia after they finished playing with the sparklers.

They happily thanked their great-grandmother before showing the plushies off to Leslie, Lucille and Evelyn.

Calix and Vernon looked at the adorable plush toys while Andrian laughed in helplessness. The latter had already seen the plushies before, shown by his elderly mother.

"They’re cute," Calix softened his smile. Rubbing Calliope’s small head, he asked, "Have you thanked your great-grandma?"

"Yes~"

Amelia chimed in, parroting Calliope’s replies to Calix.

Old Madam Xu, Harper, Leslie, Lucille and Evelyn remained at their seats. They looked at Andrian, Vernon and Calix.

The two pavilions had quite a distance in between. The men’s laughter echoed in between their inaudible conversation.

"None of them look sleepy ah," Old Madam Xu shook her head, smiling helplessly at the younger generations, "The children should head to bed soon. We’ll have a busy day tomorrow."

"I don’t think they’ll sleep easily," said Evelyn after finishing a cup of the realgar wine. A faint hint of blush dusted her cheeks, "Second Brother might drag them to play more ah."

"Hehe, that really sounds like him," Lucille laughed, agreeing with Evelyn, "The children will be more than happy to follow him."

Silvercove Beach was around thirty minutes from Phoenix Heights through the expressways. The ride might take longer due to the heavy traffic thus, they really needed to head out early in the morning.

Leslie quietly listened to the ladies talking. She couldn’t help but be conscious of her wheelchair-bound condition.

’It’ll be hard to move around the beach in this.’

Aside from having thousands of visitors tomorrow, maneuvering a wheelchair on a sandy beach was tedious. She had to use one specialized for the beach.

Even though Calix could easily procure one, Leslie didn’t feel like inconveniencing him or anyone.

Putting her concern aside, Leslie joined the ladies’ conversation. They stayed in the backyard until the clock almost reached ten. The chilly night air chased them back into the house.

"Poppy and Mia sleep with Great-Grandma~"

"With our dragon toys too!"

Calliope and Amelia did a little dance as they announced their sleeping arrangement for tonight. Their parents stared at them, thinking when did they talk about it.

"Don’t go kicking Great-Grandma, en?" Calix put both hands on his hips, bending slightly to look at Calliope, "Or, should Papa wrap you into a sushi first?"

"No!"

Glaring at Calix, Calliope ran to Old Madam Xu. Amelia still stood in between Vernon and Lucille.

"You too, Mia," Vernon smiled meaningfully at Amelia, "Sleep properly, en?"

"Mia can’t promise ah."

Amelia’s cheeky reply earned laughter from everyone present.

Leslie, Calix, Vernon and Lucille sent Calliope and Amelia to Old Madam Xu’s bedroom. The elderly lady was clearly delighted to sleep with her precious great-granddaughters.

After reminding their daughters to behave and bidding goodnight, the husbands and wives left Old Madam Xu’s bedroom, heading to their own. Andrian and Harper had already retreated to their chamber.

Calix let Leslie use the washroom first while he changed out of his clothes. Slowly buttoning his pajama shirt, he quietly drifted his eyes from the washroom door to the empty bed.

’I thought I’d dream again tonight.’

Calix envisioned experiencing another dream because he was supposed to sleep with Leslie and Calliope. Now that the little one went to his grandmother’s bedroom, he doubted he would dream any.

Well, instead of focusing on that, he should...

Blinking, Calix looked down at his collar. He deliberately left the top two buttons unlatched, revealing a part of his sturdy chest.

"Calix..."

"...y-yes!"

Stunned by Leslie calling him, Calix abruptly rushed out of the ensuite wardrobe. She was standing at the washroom door, grabbing the wooden panel. She could barely straighten her posture.

"Wanna walk or let me carry you? Or, the wheelchair?" asked Calix hurriedly while supporting Leslie’s waist.

"I’ll walk..."

Leslie took slow and painful steps toward the bed but, she didn’t give up. She hoped to walk without any assistance soon thus, she needed to keep on going with her practice.

After making sure Leslie was comfortable in bed, Calix went inside the washroom. He hadn’t washed his face and brushed his teeth for the night.

Lying on the bed, Leslie threw her eyes out of the glass windows. The moon was especially bright and pretty tonight as if to reassure everyone that tomorrow would be a good celebration day.

Calix walked out of the washroom in less than ten minutes. Leslie watched him draw the curtain in, hiding the moon behind the thick fabric.

"I didn’t think Poppy will sleep with Grandma," Calix spoke without looking at Leslie, "Really, that child."

"She’s just excited... Grandma treats her well..." replied Leslie quietly.

Exhaling a sigh, Calix stood facing the curtain for a few minutes before turning around. Somehow, his gaze carried a hint of uneasiness.

...did he look nervous?

Leslie blinked, thinking how contrary Calix could be. Sometimes, he would show his shy side while the other, he was confident.

Well, that was to be expected ah. She also used to act in the same way in the distant past.

"What... are you doing there?" Leslie smiled in helplessness. She gestured to Calix’s side of the bed, "Aren’t you sleeping?"

"Y-yeah."

Calix quietly approached the bed, crawled under the blanket and switched off the main lights with a remote controller. His movements were slightly stiff, clear to Leslie’s eyes until the darkness consumed the entire room.

The bedroom was faintly illuminated by the under bed lights. Lying on her back, Leslie silently looked at Calix who lay on his side to face her.

Their eyes met in the dimly lit room.

She couldn’t ignore the look of longing in his eyes. Despite there being a distance between them, she perfectly sensed the desire looming from him.

"Leslie."

Leslie blinked. She unconsciously held her breath at the echo of Calix’s raspy voice.

"...yes?"

Calix quietly extended a hand, lightly touching one of Leslie’s wrists. The warmth of his fingertips seeped under her skin, leaving a tingling sensation.

Silence enveloped the two people as they continued looking at one another.

Seeing that Leslie didn’t reject his small touch, Calix mustered up his courage. He quietly asked, "...can I hug you when we sleep?"

Would she agree?

Calix didn’t know but, he missed the feeling of embracing Leslie in his sleep for the first time the other day.

"You can..."

Stunned by her reply, Calix dumbfoundedly stared back at Leslie’s smiling countenance. Without saying anything, he slid closer to her, bringing her into his arms.
