Chapter 372: Are You Inspecting Me?

After telling Calliope to be quiet, he mouthed his thanks before taking the blanket from her. The little dumpling grinned as if she had done a marvelous job. Then, she returned to her open storybook.

Calix carefully covered Leslie with the blanket. The air conditioning system worked well in chasing away the summer heat.

Bringing the blanket up to her shoulders, Calix quietly watched Leslie’s sleeping face.

A smile was drawn on his lips as he savored this rare moment of intimacy with her. Her sweet floral scent gently tickled his nose, leading him to hug her closer.

’She hugs me back ah.’

Sensing his lips tremble in joy, Calix abruptly pursed them together. He still couldn’t believe his eyes seeing Leslie nestling comfortably in his arms. She even returned his embrace.

This was their first time lying together and sleeping so intimately like this. Usually, there was quite a distance separating them.

’I should take this as a good sign, yes?’

Lying on his left side, Calix let his left arm press Leslie’s back while his right hand gently brushed her hair. He remembered she used to complain she couldn’t sleep much on one side because of her back.

"I like sleeping on my side better but... my back will hurt ah. Feels like it strains..."

Whenever Leslie was bored lying on her back, she would use a pillow to add pressure to her back when changing to lie on her side. Calix ended up buying a maternity pillow to make it easier for her.

’Sleep, my lady.’

Curling up his lips, Calix couldn’t help but feel happiness overflow from his core before spreading to his entire being. He wondered if the sleeping Leslie would ever hear the erratic pounding of his heart.

This moment didn’t come easily to him, making him so reluctant to fall asleep. He wanted to savor it until it lasted.

Leslie was so deep in her slumber that she didn’t realize Calix hadn’t gone to sleep. He simply lay in silence while holding her close to him. Occasionally, he twirled the end of her locks around his fingers.

The family of three continued to spend their time in the comforting silence as the sun slowly dipped below the horizon, welcoming nighttime.

"..."

Stirred awake from her sleep, Leslie drowsily blinked her eyes. Still muddle-headed, she wondered what kind of solid and hot thing she was holding. She randomly patted her hand on the solid wall.

Until...

"Are you inspecting my body?"

A hoarse voice echoed above Leslie, jolting her out of her drowsiness.

"C-Calix?"

Gasping, Leslie opened her eyes wide. Calix’s face was only a few centimeters away from hers. She sensed the warmth of his breath fanning her face as he scoffed.

Ah!

How could she forget ah? They slept together when he suddenly hugged her. She also returned his embrace before she finally slept.

"S-sorry... Am I heavy?"

Flustered, Leslie hurriedly tried to get up. Her cheeks bloomed in the blush color, slightly hidden by her messy hair. Calix slowly sat up as he held her shoulders.

"Not heavy," Calix snickered, carving a teasing smile on her lips, "You slept so well ah. Oh, how’s your back? Does it feel strained?"

Blinking, Leslie took a moment to digest Calix’s words. She then remembered the comforting pressure on her back earlier, coming from his action of holding her there.

"...feels okay," Leslie replied quietly. She unconsciously lowered her voice, "Doesn’t feel strain..."

Calix softened his smile. He brushed his fingers through Leslie’s hair, trying to smoothen her messy locks. The sight of her pink cheeks tempted him to leave light kisses but, he held back.

"Let’s refresh ourselves. It’ll be dinnertime soon."

"Okay..."

Calix helped Leslie to the washroom. Calliope was nowhere in sight. She most likely ran downstairs to watch Aunt Wendy cooking, something she used to do whenever she was bored.

"Want me to braid your hair?" asked Calix after Leslie came out of the washroom. Her face was damp from the water.

"Please do a single braid..." requested Leslie, smiling shyly at Calix.

"As you wish, lady."

Calix swiftly did as Leslie wished, starting by brushing her hair. The husband and wife mentioned nothing about them sleeping together earlier. Yet, the air around them subtly gave off a pink bubble vibe.

Calix and Leslie went downstairs fifteen minutes later. None of them spoke much as both of them were immersed in their own thoughts.

"Hahaha! Tickle! It’s tickle ah!"

Calliope’s laughter piqued Leslie and Calix’s interest. They had just headed out of the home elevator.

"Hehe~ Where’s my little dumpling?"

"Hahaha! Run! Poppy run away!"

Their daughter continued chortling loudly while telling someone not to tickle her. The sounds came from the lounge on the first floor.

"Isn’t that Eve? When did... she get home?"

Leslie raised her brows, recalling that her sister-in-law went out early in the morning.

"Maybe, just now," replied Calix from above as he leisurely pushed the wheelchair forward, "I wonder what kind of chaos she did."

Both Leslie and Calix were aware of Evelyn’s plan to mess with Chase’s residence when he was away. It was just a simple thing among the others that would come to bite him in the back later.

Aside from Chase’s case involving Bella, Edward found other dirt on the young man. Exposing them one by one—excluding Bella’s case—was enough to keep the tabloids and public attention on him.

"Either way, that man deserves no pity... I can’t imagine what his victims feel... every time they see him... on media..."

Leslie frowned, thinking about Chase disgusted and raised goosebumps to her. Edward’s findings about the man still shocked her.

"Eve wanna meet Bella personally. Perhaps, before this festival," Calix slowed the wheelchair as they reached an intersection. They were getting closer to the lounge, "That girl is the trash’s biggest victim."

"Yes..."

Leslie was aware this subject would traumatize Bella. She wondered what kind of steps Evelyn would take to persuade the teenager. Her sister-in-law didn’t want to expose what the scum did to Bella without her consent.

Sensing Leslie’s worry, Calix spoke in a casual tone, "Either way, his ending won’t be pretty. Don’t worry too much."

Whether they included Bella’s case or not, Calix knew Evelyn wouldn’t let Chase off the hook easily.

Nodding, Leslie agreed with Calix, "I know. I just hope Eve won’t... push herself too much..."

Evelyn had just gone through a heartbreak. Despite appearing better than before, her broken heart was still far from being mended.
