Chapter 371: She Thought She Was Immune Already

Thankfully, Irene managed to calm down before she returned home. Leslie and Calix told her to try to enjoy the incoming Dragon Boat Festival. She also was welcomed to Graceville Manor anytime she felt like coming.

"Thank you again, Irene..." Leslie smilingly hugged the teenager before Irene got inside the car, "Just tell us if you need anything... Don’t hesitate, en?"

"I will surely come again soon," Irene returned Leslie’s hug. The swelling of her eyes had lessened, "I want to chat with you and play with Poppy."

"Bye-bye, Little Auntie Irene~" Calliope waved one hand at Irene as the other held the toy Mimo, "Come and play with Poppy."

"Hehe, I will~ Perhaps once summer break starts!"

Irene crouched down to hug Calliope next. Her young niece felt so soft and small in her arms. The little one returned the embrace.

"Stop crying ah," Calix referred to Irene’s slightly reddened eyes. Putting both hands into his pants pockets, he teasingly added, "I should’ve recorded when you cried just now. It’ll be a funny video."

"Urgh, it won’t be funny!"

Sticking out her tongue, Irene hurriedly got inside the car. Uncle Raymond had been waiting behind the wheel, ready to send the teenager back to Sunnyside Ridge.

"Bye-bye~ Have a good festival!"

Irene wound the window down, waving her hand happily at the family of three.

"Bye-bye~"

"See you again!"

Calix, Leslie and Calliope waited at the front porch until the car disappeared behind the main gate of the manor. The dazzling summer sun poured down on the sleek metal, leaving shimmers in its wake.

"Let’s go inside," Calix held the wheelchair handles. He smiled at Leslie and Calliope, "How about we take some rest before dinner?"

Aunt Wendy would prepare dinner tonight instead of Calix. Dinner wouldn’t be served until three hours later.

"Okay~"

"That sounds nice..."

Dealing with Rowan and Bianca’s sudden appearance exhausted both Leslie and Calix. Even though they were tired, they didn’t want to show it in front of the upset Irene.

Calix brought Leslie to the second floor, followed by Calliope on one side. The family of three opted to be in the seating area instead of the huge bed.

Calliope lay on her stomach on the carpet while hugging Mimo. Her attention was on a picture book.

Calix and Leslie simply sat side by side on the three-seater couch in quietness as they recharged their low social battery.

Despite not sharing a word, the silence was comforting. The only sounds they heard were their daughter’s murmurings and the singing of nature from the outside.

’..sleepy.’

With her eyes drooping further, Leslie didn’t notice her upper body swaying. She shook her head, trying to stay awake instead of taking a nap. Eventually, her head fell on Calix’s shoulder.

"S-sorry! ...en?"

Surprised, Leslie abruptly straightened her posture before Calix yanked her from the back. Her head landed on the man’s sturdy chest this time.

"Shut your eyes," Calix’s mellow voice echoed from above Leslie. He lightly wrapped one of his arms around her waist, "Aren’t you sleepy?"

Calix was drowsy himself. He was half-asleep when suddenly Leslie’s movement jolted him awake.

Muddle-headed by his sleepiness, he automatically pulled her toward him when she tried to scoot away.

Conscious of how warm her back felt as she half-lay on him, Leslie blinked her eyes nervously. She inwardly told herself not to be too rigid as Calix embraced her.

"...okay. I’m sleepy."

"En... sleep ah..."

Calix’s tone lowered as drowsiness imbued his voice. He adjusted his posture, thinking to let Leslie be more comfortable. In the end, they lay on the couch instead of just sitting.

’What did just happen?’

Blinking, Leslie stared at Calix’s chest. He lay on the outer side of the couch while pressing one arm across her back, locking her in a position of lying in facing him. His other arm draped on her waist.

’...didn’t we just sit earlier?’

As Calix held her close, Leslie perceived his warmth blanketing her entire body. Their legs tangled on the other end of the couch.

’Well... let’s just sleep ah.’

Leslie was already aware of Calix liking her beyond as friends. His actions and words spelled the depth of his feelings for her.

Calix was usually shy whenever he tried to get more intimate with her but, Leslie noticed some of his bold moves as of late – including the alone time they spent at the pool the other day.

Leslie quietly tilted up her chin, letting her eyes land on Calix’s sleeping face. Because of how close they were, she could perfectly see even the faint wrinkles in the corners of his eyes.

’I thought I was immune already but... his face is dangerous ah.’

Despite being preoccupied with Calliope’s matters, Leslie hadn’t forgotten the assumptions she had in her mind before. She simply hadn’t had time to entertain them properly.

And...

Whether what she thought was true or not, it didn’t change the fact that the buds in her heart began to sprout, inclining toward him.

’I want to hug him back.’

Ignoring the heat swirling in her cheeks, Leslie awkwardly extended her hands to wrap around Calix’s tapered waist. Whether he realized what she was doing or not, she didn’t want to mind it.

Being this close to him eased her troubled heart.

Unable to resist her drowsiness anymore, Leslie finally fell asleep. Her head lightly touched Calix’s chest as her posture relaxed in his embrace.

"Oh? Mama and Papa sleep?"

Looking up from the picture book, Calliope saw the back view of Calix lying on the couch. She also noticed Leslie’s arms and legs as her frame was mostly obscured by the man.

Calliope propped on her hands and knees as she slowly stood up. Leaving the toy Mimo on the floor, she deng deng deng ran to the single-seater couch. A folded throw blanket sat on the cushion.

She had to cover her mama and papa!

Calliope unfolded the blanket before dragging it to where Calix and Leslie were sleeping. She froze when suddenly her father turned his head around.

"Papa?" Calliope whispered, her round eyes widened.

Calix took his arm from Leslie’s waist before placing his index finger over his smiling lips. His other hand remained on her back.

Winking, Calix whispered back to Calliope, "Quiet, my buttercup."

His lady was deep in sleep.
