Win My Husband Over to Find My Child -
Chapter 358: She’d Beat Him to Death
Chapter 358: She’d Beat Him to Death
Calix was discouraged because he couldn’t proceed with what he wished for. But, it didn’t mean his whole spirit was crushed. He felt more energized instead.
He vowed to do better!
Haha... The moment came spontaneously. He should plan for something instead of trying to ask her impromptu.
After drying Leslie’s hair, Calix wrapped her head with the towel. Her entire body was still covered with the long and huge one. He also draped a towel on his broad shoulders.
Noticing Calliope and Evelyn’s absence from the rooftop pool, Leslie asked confusedly, "When did they leave? Did you... see them leaving?"
"Just now. Poppy wanna play something else. She dragged my sister along."
Throwing his own daughter under the bus, Calix casually replied to Leslie’s question. He pushed the small table sitting between the lounge chair closer.
A plate of bite-sized sandwiches, cups of puddings and a jar of watermelon juice were served on the surface. Everything was prepared well by Aunt Wendy including the mineral water.
"Do you want sandwiches or pudding?"
"Sandwiches..."
Calix and Leslie spent more time at the rooftop pool. One by one, they finished the sandwiches and pudding. It seemed like the husband and wife wouldn’t eat much during dinner later.
The sun was hanging just above the skyline. The giant ball of light would disappear below the horizon soon. The afterglow of the sunset cast the sky in streaks of violet, amber and ruby colors.
"Oh, I haven’t got a chance to tell you," Calix put down the empty cup of watermelon juice on the table. He looked at Leslie, "Edward found dirt on that Chase Yao."
"Huh? What kind of dirt?" Leslie raised her brows, eager to know.
Under Leslie’s eyes brimmed with expectation, Calix brought up everything he had just learned about Chase, leaving nothing unsaid. Her anticipated gaze soon changed to a disgusted one.
"How could he? T-that bastard! Urgh! That’s so sick!"
Leslie was thoroughly horrified, her stomach churning at the thought of Chase hiding his rotten core under a gentlemanly facade.
The public would bury her alive once they heard about this!
"It’s indeed sick," Calix exhaled a sigh. Pulling a tissue from the box, he wiped the little crumbs sticking on a corner of Leslie’s mouth, "He can get imprisoned."
Frowning, Leslie nodded. Calix’s words held the truth, especially with evidence at hand. Her twisted countenance expressed her disgust toward Chase.
Leslie shook her head, trying to chase the disgusting images away. She asked Calix cautiously, "You haven’t told Eve, right?"
Evelyn was so cheerful playing with Calliope just now. Leslie doubted her sister-in-law could suppress her fury once she learned of this information.
"No. I’ll do it tonight," Calix let out a chuckle as a thought crossed his mind, "I can imagine Eve being so pissed she’ll beat him to death."
Leslie scoffed, expressing her pure disdain toward the rotten cheating scumbag of a man.
"No need to dirty Eve’s hands... His fellow inmates later will surely... do worse..."
Calix nodded, fully agreeing with Leslie. He glanced in a direction, looking at the blueish-white wall clock in the shape of waves.
"Let’s go inside," Calix stood up. He properly wrapped a towel around his tapered waist, "You should have a warm soak before dinner."
"Who’s the one who... pulled me into the pool?" Leslie glared at Calix, reminding him of his prank earlier.
"Hahaha! I did."
Calix guffawed, finding Leslie’s glare adorable. To save time, he carried her to the wheelchair. Fortunately, the leather seat wouldn’t absorb the water from her drenched dress.
Aunt Wendy and Mrs. An were surprised to see a soaked Leslie. Calix got nagged by the housekeeper for making the weak-constitutioned Leslie remain in her wet dress.
Calix threw pitiful glances at Leslie but she pretended not to see them. The man acted like a dog being abandoned by its owner despite the latter simply doing something mundane.
Ignoring Calix, Leslie went to take a warm bath. Mrs. An filled the tub with water before throwing a strawberry-mint bath bomb into the tub. Leslie took her sweet time soaking.
Pulling her legs closed to her chest, Leslie cupped some bubbly water with both of her hands. She quietly saw them popping one by one.
’Poppy will love this bomb. Hehe, I’ll ask Calix to get one for her.’
Calliope’s washroom had a shell-shaped bathtub perfect for her small size. A worried Calix discarded the giant tub for a much smaller one for the sake of their daughter’s safety.
Calliope loved spending time in the small bathtub, playing with the bubbles. Leslie chuckled at the thought of how well-pampered the little one was.
’Oh... We haven’t discussed much about Poppy’s kindergarten.’
Aside from being busy with work, Calix was suddenly disturbed by Evelyn and Chase Yao’s issues. Leslie was aware the man often continued doing his job after Calliope went to bed.
’Is it okay if Poppy goes to the same one as Mia’s?’
Lucille shared a few details about Amelia’s kindergarten. From what Leslie heard, the former and her husband took great consideration before deciding on that particular preschool.
’I’ll ask Calix later. We might get more info during the break.’
The Dragon Boat Festival was scheduled for the next Thursday, June 22nd. Calix said they would spend the festival at the Xu family’s ancestral home but, without meeting the extended families.
’Wow, it’ll be a month soon.’
Leaning her back against the tub, Leslie stared at the ceiling. She still remembered how nervous she and Calix were when they went to get Calliope from the orphanage early this month[01].
’Hehe, luckily, everything’s going smoothly.’
Or so she thought.
Soon, Leslie took a shower to wash off the soap and bubbles. She carefully stepped out of the washroom, feeling all refreshed from the long bath. She no longer felt the cold of the pool water.
"Mrs. Xu, let me dry your hair," said Mrs. An as she helped Leslie to the wheelchair.
"Thank you, Mrs. An..."
Leslie let Mrs. An dry-blow her hair. Sitting in front of the vanity mirror, she played with her phone.
Ding! Ding!
"...a text from Irene?"
With a tap on the screen, Irene’s message was fully displayed.
[Irene: Big Sister, can I go to your house?]
[Irene: I’m done with the exam]
