Chapter 349: His Fate Would Be Worse Than Death
While waiting for Manager Yin to return with food for Evelyn, the young lady recounted what she experienced when dealing with Chase last night. Her elder brother patiently listened to her.
"I didn’t want him to know I was there so... I hid in his room. I waited for hours. He finally came back but... he was with a young woman. I didn’t know who she was."
At first, Evelyn sounded calm but, her intonation and expression changed the deeper she went into the story. Fire of outrage blazed in her eyes as tears rolled down her cheeks.
"That scumbag kissed her! I saw him kissing her right after they came inside! Urgh! Freaking trash! I should backkick him!"
Irritated by the image, Evelyn punched a pillow before ending up throwing it. The cushion bounced on the wall then falling not far from the built-in bookshelves.
Calix quietly mourned the poor pillow’s fate as he handed tissues to Evelyn. She blew her snotty nose into them before continuing her story, still overwhelmed by her raging emotions.
"He pushed that woman away! He dared say he had nothing to do with her? She looked so confused ah! She didn’t know he two-timed us!"
This time Evelyn punched the mattress. Her chest heaved up and down, unable to control her wrath the more she remembered how she confronted the cheating bastard.
Calix’s eyes shifted from Evelyn’s twisted expression to the mattress right below her fist. A cold sweat broke on his back.
Would he be the next victim if he continued staying near his furious sister? Well, haha... like how an exploding volcano burned the surrounding area with its burning lava?
Putting down the tissue box in between them, Calix quietly scooted away from Evelyn. He better not get himself scorched by his sister’s blazing fury.
Evelyn didn’t realize what Calix did. Running both hands through her messy hair, she cursed Chase out loud. Her frustrated yell boomed in the room.
"ARGH! He better drop dead somewhere! How dare he deceive me! Urgh! I should hit his face ah! That damn bastard!"
Striking her fist into the air, Evelyn huffed in anger. Her motion was swift and powerful thanks to years of practice despite still crying out loud.
Calix flinched looking at Evelyn’s fist, thinking how easy for her to break someone’s nose with just one punch. Chase most likely needed to reconstruct his nose if she did hit him.
"Hah! I don’t wanna talk about last night anymore!"
Understanding Evelyn had reached her limits, Calix didn’t push her to continue. He already learned the important part of this situation – Evelyn caught the scumbag cheating on her red-handed.
Chase messed up terribly last night, much to Calix’s delight.
"Blow your nose ah. Don’t be like Poppy and Mia. Little kids with snotty noses."
Calix pushed the tissue box closer to Evelyn. Abruptly turning her head toward him, she hissed. The man clamped his mouth shut.
Evelyn grabbed the tissue box with some force. Ignoring Calix, she hurriedly wiped her tear-stricken face and blew her nose. Crumpled balls of tissues soon littered the floor.
"Trash! Really trash! The smelliest one!"
Calix scoffed as Evelyn continued to curse Chase. Smirking, a hint of mischief glinted in the man’s eyes.
Calix pondered for a moment before asking, "Have you thought of what to do? Want me to ban him from the industry? Directors and brands will surely cancel his contracts."
Calix rarely played dirty like that, unlike Xander. Anyone who crossed Violet would have their paths to superstardom cut short.
"About that..."
Evelyn threw herself on the mattress, her messy long locks splayed in every direction. Her swollen eyes stared straight to the ceiling, her eyelids drooping slightly.
Now that she had let out most of her anger, Evelyn’s exhaustion started creeping in. She didn’t get even an hour of sleep since last night. Her stomach also felt so empty. Her last meal was lunch yesterday.
"I won’t do anything yet. It’s just..."
Her voice fading, Evelyn turned to look at Calix. Her elder brother was still sitting on the bed, also staring back at her.
Calix narrowed his eyes, sensing Evelyn might request something from him.
Arching one brow, he went forward by questioning her first, "What? What do you wanna ask me? Anything about that bastard?"
Evelyn laughed awkwardly. She scratched the tip of her nose, darting her eyes from Calix to the ceiling, "Haha... a bit. Second Brother, don’t tell anyone about this, okay?"
Calix understood who Evelyn meant without the need to specify who they were – their mom, dad, grandmother as well as Vernon and Lucille.
"You know all hell breaks loose if Dad and First Brother know," Calix bluntly pointed out, something Evelyn couldn’t deny, "Dad might kick that scumbag out of this city."
Andrian didn’t mind giving freedom to Evelyn, his only daughter but, his protectiveness remained. He wouldn’t let Chase off the hook easily if he found out that man cheated on her.
The same went for Vernon and Calix. It was one reason why the latter tried to solve it without involving his father and elder brother.
If all three of them stepped in...
Chase’s fate was worse than death.
"Urgh... Dad will do worse," Evelyn frowned. Pushing her body forward, she sat cross-legged on the bed. Her narrowed eyes fell on Calix, "This is nothing ah. We weren’t together for that long. Sure, I’m heartbroken but, I won’t hide somewhere crying like a loser."
Calix shook his head, expressing he didn’t believe in Evelyn’s words. Rising to his feet, he stood in front of his sister with both hands on his hips.
"Indeed, you look better than earlier but, I don’t trust you ah. My dear sister, I don’t want you to be like me before."
Evelyn frozen. Her elder brother’s words reminded her of the harsh remarks she threw at him yesterday.
"Second Brother, about yesterday, I..."
"How about you take a breather?" Calix cut Evelyn off, not giving her the chance to speak further, "I don’t want to leave you alone here ah. You surely won’t return home."
"I’m okay. Don’t worry too much ah," Evelyn shook her head, glaring at Calix, "I won’t ever go home right now. What if Mom and Dad can tell something’s wrong? I’ll be fine staying here."
Exhaling a sigh, Calix racked his brain.
What else should he propose to his stubborn younger sister?
