Chapter 348: How About She Castrated Him Directly?
Shivers ghosted down Evelyn’s spine, her widened eyes remained locking on Calix’s face.
A menacing aura emanated from her elder brother, directed at none other than the cheating scumbag. His sinister smile was nothing like the playful ones she was used to all this time.
"What?" Calix raised his eyebrows, shooting more questions to Evelyn, "Are you afraid? Should I bring him kneeling in front of you before I kill him?"
"...are you that eager to live in prison?"
Mumbling under her breath, Evelyn yanked the blanket back from Calix. Her initially irritated tone mellowed, expressing the little energy she had left to argue about this issue.
No longer baring her fangs out of fury, the snow tigress transformed into a meek cat.
Calix let out a relieved sigh, grateful for his decision to intervene as quickly as possible.
The longer he or anyone just let Evelyn be, the harder for them to bring her out of her seclusion. Even if she resumed working, it wouldn’t be the same as usual.
Smiling lopsidedly, Calix teased Evelyn, "Oh~ Seems like my little sister is worried about me ah. Don’t you?"
"Who’s worried about you?"
Evelyn shot back, still glaring at Calix. She wrapped the blanket around her frame, her eyes were still puffy from her crying the entire night.
Helpless laughter rolled out of Calix’s mouth. Despite still being angry at Chase, he swiftly suppressed the rest of his fury. He would handle that man if Evelyn wouldn’t.
But...
First thing first, his younger sister needed to recharge her energy.
Calix glanced to the door, seeing a concerned Manager Yin debating whether to come inside or not. Uneasiness and doubt were reflected on the older woman’s contorted face.
"Get my sister some food," instructed Calix, "Something easy for the stomach."
"Yes, CEO Xu."
Manager Yin quickly abid to Calix’s order. Turning around, she left the siblings alone. The echoes of her footsteps faded from the hallway to downstairs.
Putting his hands deep into his pants pockets, Calix sat on the bed. He crossed one leg over another as his eyes returned to Evelyn. His younger sister buried her face into her knees.
"Manager Yin told me everything but, she didn’t know every detail, didn’t she?"
"...what do you want to know?"
Evelyn’s muffled voice was barely audible in the air. She hugged her legs close to her chest, hiding her swollen face from being seen. Her silky long hair was all messy, entangling from one lock to the other.
"Did he hurt you when you confronted him?"
Calix’s tone remained soft but, Evelyn still caught the razor-sharp edge in his voice. She didn’t remember when was the last time she heard her elder brother speaking in such a way.
"Are you worried about that?" Evelyn replied with another question of her own.
"Eve, please tell your brother here."
Calix wanted to know what happened before Manager Yin reached Chase’s apartment, worrying about the cheating trash harming Evelyn once he was caught red-handed.
Despite being aware of his younger sister’s ability to protect herself, Calix wondered whether Evelyn was too shocked to retaliate. He didn’t care what happened to Chase as long as his sister was fine.
Evelyn lifted her head slightly. She stared at the floor in a daze before turning to look at Calix. Her reddened pair of eyes were partially obscured by her messy bangs.
"He grabbed my hand when I wanted to leave..." muttered Evelyn as she remembered the figments of memories from last night, "...I kicked his shin."
Calix winced, inevitably recalling the shin injuries he had experienced himself before. Just thinking of them was enough to spread an imaginary pain from his legs to his entire body.
"Haha... good job," Calix laughed awkwardly. Shaking his head, he patted Evelyn’s back, "Well, you should just kick his crotch or something. Someone like him shouldn’t breed ah"
Evelyn narrowed her eyes. As she asked Calix, her voice sounding mysteriously threatening, "Should I go back and do that? Or, castrate him directly? Aren’t we doing the world a favor? As you said, he shouldn’t breed. That piece of trash!"
"..."
Calix moved his hand from Evelyn’s back, flicking the center of her forehead. Yelling in pain, she quickly smacked her brother’s hand in retaliation.
"Second Brother! It hurts!"
Calix rolled his eyes. He was tempted to repeat what he had just done but, doing it meant Evelyn would transform into a snow tigress again.
"Let’s go back to last night. Anything else I should know? Have you thought of how to deal with him? Even the young lady is a victim of this mess. He two-timed you both."
Exhaling a sigh, Evelyn acknowledged the truth in Calix’s words. Now that her mind and heart were not entirely consumed by anger and embarrassment, she inwardly admitted her elder brother was simply being concerned about her.
"Well, last night I waited for him... As you heard the other day, I planned to surprise him so... I didn’t tell him I was already back. Then..."
Evelyn paused, unable to continue despite having the desire to be truthful with Calix. She grasped the blanket, balling the fabric in between her fists.
Chase returned to the apartment but, he was not alone. Evelyn revealed herself only to see him pressing an unfamiliar lady to the door, trying to kiss her deeply.
That particular image was too painful.
Sensing something was wrong, Calix said while trying to sound casual, "You can tell me once you’re ready. No need to rush ah."
Evelyn shook her head, disagreeing with Calix. She uttered, "No, better I tell you now, Second Brother."
The pain was still raw, piercing into Evelyn’s heart but, she didn’t want to hide behind her sadness and rage. The quicker she solved this problem, the sooner she could leave it behind.
Saying nothing in response, the corners of Calix’s lips softened. He made a mental note to thank Leslie once more for warning him about the potential problem in Evelyn’s love life.
