Chapter 347: His Stubborn Younger Sister

Calix arrived at Evelyn’s apartment, Serenity Towers in less than fifteen minutes. His younger sister’s private abode was not far from Xu International headquarters.

Serenity Towers were homes for top celebrities, sportsmen, businessmen and political figures in the country. The access was very limited as the trained guards kept the place safe from outside threats.

Calix rushed to the thirty-eighth floor of Serenity Towers. Evelyn’s lavish duplex unit was among the only two units built on that floor.

"She’s still in her room?" asked Calix as soon as he stepped into Evelyn’s apartment unit. Manager Yin welcomed him at the door.

"Yes. I’m worried. Miss Eve hasn’t eaten since last night."

"No spare key? Eve always has one or two for each room," Calix recalled one of Evelyn’s habits.

"There’s none. Miss Eve might hide it somewhere."

Calix scoffed. He had an idea where that place was but, he wouldn’t resort to using the spare key yet. Thankfully, Evelyn didn’t use the automatic keypads for any of the rooms.

Calix hurried to the staircase, Evelyn’s main bedroom was upstairs. Manager Yin tagged along. Her gloomy countenance revealed her uneasiness over this situation.

"I’m sorry, CEO Xu. I hid Miss Eve’s actions from you," Manager Yin’s hooded eyes fell on the marble staircase, watching her feet climb every step. She didn’t dare to look at Calix, "I only told you just now."

"I expected better than you, Manager Yin," responded Calix coldly, his darkened eyes narrowing in displeasure, "If something happened to Eve when she met that bastard, I won’t spare you easily."

"I admit my faults, CEO Xu," uttered Manager Yin, realizing the terrible way she navigated this issue, "I’ll accept any punishments."

Calix replied nothing as he ran a few steps forward, landing on the second floor. His eyes were locked on the closed door of Evelyn’s bedroom.

Calix was dissatisfied with how Manager Yin acted but, his primary focus now was Evelyn. He also knew his younger sister wouldn’t let him off the hook if he punished her cherished manager.

"Eve, it’s me. Open the door."

Standing opposite the pale green door, Calix knocked on the panel twice. He also raised his voice to another octave, hoping Evelyn would hear him.

She did hear him, but...

"Leave me alone!"

She still refused to let anyone inside.

Evelyn’s loud voice sounded a bit muffled thanks to the decent soundproofing of the bedroom. Still, Calix could tell how angry his younger sister was.

Sigh, so stubborn ah.

Thinking of something else to say, Calix shouted, "Eve, aren’t you hungry ah? What if you faint? How about I..."

"Shut it! Get lost!"

Calix exhaled a sigh, trying to calm his annoyed heart. Tapping his knuckles on the door again, he shouted again, "Choose! I kick the door or you open it yourself!"

"FOR GOD’S SAKE! LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Rolling his eyes, Calix put both hands on his hips. He had always known how headstrong Evelyn could be but, it was still annoying ah.

"CEO Xu, should we just let Miss Eve be? I’ll wait here until she comes out."

Manager Yin darted his eyes from the door to Calix alternatively. Her tone was so low as if she was afraid Evelyn would hear.

Calix shook his head, refusing Manager Yin’s suggestion, "Nah, no need to do that."

Spinning on his heels, Calix walked away from the bedroom. His action earned a baffled look from Manager Yin yet, she didn’t ask the man anything.

Calix stopped right opposite a huge watercolor drawing of nature hung on the wall. There was a cabinet placed below the illustration, the top surface was painted checkerboard.

He fully recognized this piece of furniture. It was the similar one his younger sister kept in her childhood bedroom.

He also knew the secret function this cabinet had.

Turning his right palm up, Calix traced the underside of the cabinet slowly. His lips were drawn into a smirk once he sensed a bump.

Tap.

"CEO Xu... what’s that?"

Perplexed, Manager Yin watched an object ascending from the cabinet surface, revealing a box. She hurriedly rushed to Calix, never expecting to see such a mechanism from the cabinet.

"A little hideout for her keys and other trinkets," replied Calix with his eyes looking into the small box.

Aside from a bunch of keys, Calix also found little items such as nail polish bottles, folded ad flyers and an empty vitamin bottle. It seemed like Evelyn randomly tossed them inside.

"CEO Xu, how did you..."

Manager Yin stuttered, still caught off guard by how easily Calix found the spare keys.

She had been Evelyn’s manager for so long but, she had never seen such a thing nor heard about it!

"Eve has this cabinet at home. She likes this function. Our dad got another one for her when she bought this place."

Picking up the keys, Calix wondered which one was for Evelyn’s bedroom. He could try every single one but, doing that would earn the raging snow tigress’ wrath.

The better choice was to know the correct key right before he unlocked the door. Surely his younger sister wouldn’t have time to barricade the doorway with anything heavy.

"Oh, I think this is the one."

One of the keys was different compared to the rest. Instead of bearing a simple and modern design, it looked straight out of an antique shop.

Evelyn’s taste.

"That’s the bedroom key," Manager Yin whispered, recognizing the tiny metal, "It’s the same one Miss Eve keeps to herself."

Grinning, Calix pushed the knob again. The box slowly descended, leaving no trace of its existence under the checkerboard design of the cabinet’s top surface.

Calix returned to where he just left earlier. Preparing himself to face more of Evelyn’s wrath, he swiftly inserted the key into the keyhole before turning it. The door opened with a click.

"How did you... ARGH! Get out!"

Following Evelyn’s shout was a pillow being tossed into the air, directed to the door. Calix caught it with a deadpan look, uninterested in the throwing pillow game his younger sister suddenly played.

Calix walked through the door, finding a disheveled Evelyn curling in the middle of her bed. He inwardly sighed in relief to see the room hadn’t been turned into a ruin.

No skincare and makeup being swept off the table just to crash on the floor.

No broken pieces of the chairs being thrown away.

Ah...

Calix’s gaze lingered on a small damaged object lying not far from the bed.

"Tsk, why did you throw that phone ah? Such a waste."

"Don’t make fun of me! Leave!"

Evelyn was seething with anger but, she had no energy left to deal with her annoying brother.

She hated that he spoke the truth, but...

She hated herself more for being deceived by that scum!

ARGH!

Evelyn pulled the blanket, intending to hide under it. She yelled when someone yanked the fabric away. Her swollen face was exposed to the lights.

"Second Brother! Leave me alone!"

Calix shook his head. Arching his brows, he snickered, "My dear sister, want me to kill him?"

"...what?"

Evelyn blankly stared at Calix. She saw her elder brother’s eyes glowering with suppressed fury.
