Chapter 346: A Phone Call Interrupted His Wish

Calix had no chance to daydream about Leslie kissing his cheek once he reached the office. More piles of work and meetings were waiting for him, much to his dismay.

Some of them—reports and people alike—made him happy as a businessman while the others made his blood boil. Thankfully, he was too busy to transform into a fire-breathing dragon.

"Boss Xu, Mr. Enoch is free from Wednesday to Friday. I’ve arranged for him to come on Thursday morning."

Edward reported his latest plan involving the sketch artist based on Calix’s schedule for the week. The latter wouldn’t be as busy as usual on Thursday.

Calix was pleased with Edward’s efficiency. Because he didn’t know the identities of the man and the woman, he could only begin from his memories.

"Great. Escort him directly to my office."

"Yes, Boss Xu."

Having nothing more to say, Calix shooed Edward out. He still had more things to focus on before the work hours ended. The lunch hour was still far.

Even if some tasks were still left unfinished by this late afternoon, Calix intended to bring them home. He could resume working on them after Calliope fell asleep.

Calix wished to spend as much time as he could with both Leslie and Calliope. He had to go on a four-day business trip abroad in two weeks. His destination this time was Switzerland.

The land that was famous for its majestic mountains and foods, especially cheese and chocolates.

’Should I bring them along? Or, will it be too exhausting for both?’

The one-way flight took roughly fourteen hours from Silvercrest City. Calix was reluctant to burden the weak Leslie and the little Calliope with such a long flight.

’Well, I better ask ask Leslie first.’

Calix still remembered how much Leslie enjoyed their Rome trip despite being unable to experience the tour like normal people. He hoped to bring her there again soon in the future, this time together with their daughter Calliope.

Burying himself into a mountain of work, Calix swiftly and efficiently finished them one by one. He barely took a little break, including only having sandwiches for lunch.

Calix got to complete more than he foresaw, much to his delight. The thought of going home soon to Leslie and Calliope cheered him up.

Unfortunately, a phone call interrupted his wish.

Ring! Ring!

The ringing pierced through Calix’s focus. Tearing his eyes away from the PC screen, he glanced at his phone. He raised his brows the moment he saw the name displayed on the screen.

"...Manager Yin?"

Ignoring everything else, Calix quickly accepted the call. Evelyn’s face crossed his mind, making him uneasy.

Did something happen?

"Yes, Manager Yin?"

"CEO Xu..."

The tremors in Manager Yin’s usually composed voice left Calix unsettled. A frown marred his forehead.

"How’s Eve?"

Calix’s question was simple yet straightforward. It was rare to hear Manager Yin speaking in such a tone. He believed this phone call was meant to bring bad news to him.

"Miss Eve locks herself in her room. Since last night. She refuses to come out. She’s not eating too."

The anxious Manager Yin spoke hurriedly in short sentences, unable to disguise her troubled mind right now. She was genuinely worried about Evelyn.

Calix narrowed his eyes, sensing something more serious had happened without his knowledge.

Perhaps, Evelyn most likely...

"Did she catch that scum?"

"Yes."

A heavy sigh rolled out of Calix’s mouth. The wrinkles on his forehead deepened as he tried to imagine the situation Evelyn was currently in.

Despair. Betrayal. Sadness. Anger.

Only negative feelings would overflow from her wounded heart after discovering the scum’s deception.

"Tell me everything. Don’t skip even the smallest detail."

Manager Yin abid to Calix’s order. She started by telling him what happened after Evelyn’s sudden visit to Xu International yesterday.

Apparently, Evelyn was still in denial. She was mad at Manager Yin for colluding with Calix about revealing Chase’s deception. They made a fool of her by going behind her back.

"Don’t stop me! I’m going there!"

Desperate to prove her elder brother wrong as well as clearing Chase’s name from this accusation, Evelyn hurriedly went to the man’s apartment without telling him.

Despite being a couple for quite some time, Evelyn had only been in Chase’s apartment twice due to security issues. They often met secretly in her luxurious apartment where the safety was top-notch.

Fortunately, Chase hadn’t changed his door passcode. Evelyn waited alone for hours, knowing he was busy with his schedule that day. Her waiting ended right before midnight.

Unfortunately, Chase didn’t come home by himself. A young woman—Tessa Duan—was with him, bringing along a suitcase.

The rest was history.

"I only knew that far," said Manager Yin at the end of her story, "I saw them fighting. Miss Duan was as shocked as Miss Eve."

Worried about Evelyn, Manager Yin followed her from behind when the former headed to Chase’s apartment. She could only wait in the car to prevent the actress from discovering her.

Manager Yin witnessed the disguised Chase coming out of an old-looking car with Tessa. He didn’t use his usual vehicle.

"CEO Xu, Mr. Yao came looking for Miss Eve here. I informed the guards to stop him at all costs."

Calix was irked hearing the report. He couldn’t believe how thick-skinned the cheating scumbag was. Luckily, Evelyn lived in a place with the topmost security.

"Great. I’ll break his legs if he dared show up in front of her."

Exhaling a sigh, Calix understood he couldn’t let Evelyn be. His younger sister was prone to withdraw herself and suffer alone every time she faced setbacks. Especially when none in their family was aware of her problems.

"Wait over there. Don’t tell Eve I’m coming."

"Yes, CEO Xu."

Ending the call, Calix hurriedly stood up. He grabbed a few important items before rushing out of the office. Everyone in the secretarial department including Edward noticed his weird behavior.

"Boss Xu, are you..."

Lowering his tone, Calix swiftly cut Edward off.

"Eve’s in trouble. I’m going to her place."

Under Edward’s stunned look, Calix ran to the private elevator.
