Chapter 339: He Needed to Return Home to His Dog
Evelyn’s brief visit didn’t bother Calix much as he focused on completing his tasks for the day. Following his determination from the morning, he managed to settle most of them before five o’clock.
The sun had dipped from the peak of the sky, waiting to set in a few more hours.
Before Calix ended his phone call with Leslie and Calliope, once again he said he would return home as soon as possible. He also asked what kind of dishes they wanted to have for dinner tonight.
"Aunt Wendy said she’ll cook for us... tonight. Won’t you be tired... after working the entire day?"
Understanding that both Leslie and Aunt Wendy were thinking of his well-being, Calix simply agreed. There was nothing to argue about. He could still cook for his wife and daughter next time.
As for Calliope...
"Papa! Come home and let’s play!"
Calix guffawed at Calliope’s insistence to play together. He reminded the little dumpling to stay put and not cause trouble anywhere. His words earned her adorable nagging.
Knock! Knock!
The sound of the two collective knocks caught Calix’s attention but, he didn’t shift his eyes away from the huge PC screen. He recognized the echoes of Edward’s steady footsteps approaching the work desk.
"I’ll clock out now," said Calix without looking at Edward. He typed something on the keyboard before he started closing the tabs displayed on the screen, "I’ll look over the rest at home."
Edward stopped a few feet from Calix’s huge work desk, "Will do, Boss Xu. By the way, I’ve completed what you told me yesterday."
Intrigued by what Edward had just said, Calix finally tore his eyes away from the screen, looking at the younger man. He finally realized Edward was holding one thin plastic file.
"Both?" Calix arched an eyebrow, referring to Evelyn’s issue and the sketch artist.
"Yes."
Nodding once, Edward took papers out of the file, presenting to Calix two piles of printed papers. Each pile had different titles spelled out on the front cover.
"I’ve gotten the information about Miss Eve’s hidden boyfriend. The other one is the sketch artists’ portfolio, just in case you want to see it. I’ve found a great one. Both in skills and integrity."
Calix took the papers from Edward’s hands. He focused on the artist’s portfolio first instead of the trashy man’s information. His eyes widened in delight once he went through the portfolio.
The sketch artist was known by the name of Enoch. He was well-versed in various forms of art, including sculpting. It seemed like he was currently in the Silvercrest City, enjoying the summer season.
The portfolio compiled impressive artworks done by Enoch, including his lifelike human sketchings. Just seeing these convinced Calix to commission him.
"I want him to do one man and one woman’s sketches. Invite him here. I’ll squeeze some time between my schedule for this."
Calix didn’t know how long Enoch needed to sketch the faces just from his imagination. Because he couldn’t afford another day off, he resorted to this way.
"I’ll make the arrangement, Boss Xu."
Edward didn’t try to probe what Calix had in mind by looking for a professional sketch artist. at first, he wondered if his boss wanted to commission a family portrait but, seemed like this was not the case.
Pushing the swivel chair backward, Calix rose to his feet. He grabbed the coat hanging on the tall rack, began to wear it over his dress shirt.
"I’ll look over that man’s info on my way home. My wife and daughter are waiting for my return ah."
Edward rolled his eyes, knowing full well that Calix was boasting about his family life to him.
"Yes, Boss Xu. I need to return home to my dog too."
Snickering, Calix winked at the deadpan Edward once. He tossed his phone, thin wallet and car key into his briefcase before placing the unread document about Evelyn’s hidden boyfriend.
Calix waved one hand at Edward, leaving the younger man standing in the same spot. He could imagine the latter eyeing him with disdain.
Calix quickly made his way to the private elevator. He couldn’t wait to read what was so special about Evelyn’s hidden boyfriend if there was any. Still, he should do it once he got to the car.
Sitting behind the wheels, Calix turned on the engine before retrieving the document from the briefcase. He flipped to the first page where the man’s photos and general information were displayed.
"Chase Yao... Does he even have a notable work?"
The young man surnamed Yao was the same age as Evelyn, debuting six years ago under Mystic Media. It was a smaller company compared to XuGlam Entertainment yet, it produced quality artists.
’This guy might be talented ah. He just hadn’t gotten good roles.’
Chase hailed from a small town in the north. He moved to this metropolis to change his life. All his fans were well aware of the hardship he had to endure before rising to this level.
’He played supporting roles until recently. Very small roles.’
Calix scanned through the short list of Chase’s filmography. He had nothing against the younger man’s lack of success so far.
The entertainment world was overcrowded with old and new talents alike. Hard work alone couldn’t guarantee success. There was a reason why certain people played dirty to rise the ladder.
Most of the dramas Chase starred in were romcom. Some of them achieved high ratings while the others flopped.
’Hurm... He’s quite handsome. Just a bit ah.’
Calix’s eyes were locked onto Chase’s passport photo and magazine pictorials.
With a pair of peach blossom eyes, a straight nose, fair skin and an athletic tall body, Chase possessed the standard look of a little fresh meat[01] loved by most fans. Yet, there was nothing that really stood out.
’When did they start bumping into each other?’
Calix flipped to the next page. His question was answered in detail there.
