Chapter 333: Her Tough Exterior Masked Her Soft Heart

Calix’s eyes traced the skyline of the city, looking beyond the vicinity of the manor. His worried countenance was reflected in the glass panels of the windows. A rare hint of displeasure clouded his eyes.

’Evelyn herself can be too stubborn.’

Shrugging, Calix let out a sigh of helplessness as he continued thinking of Evelyn. His genuine worry for his younger sister weighed his mind.

Despite planning to reveal the scum man’s deceit after gathering concrete evidence, it wouldn’t be enough.

’Eve will be mad with me. That’s for sure.’

Calix could predict what Evelyn’s reaction would be. Aside from being sad and heartbroken over the trash’s betrayal, she would get mad at him—Calix—for meddling with her personal life.

’I’m doing what I can. It’s better than Dad and Elder Brother know about this.’

Unless necessary, Calix wouldn’t inform Andrian, Vernon and everyone else in the family about Evelyn’s problem. He believed she had to bring it up herself.

Even though Calix said he would ruin the trash man’s life for cheating on Evelyn, he actually intended to let his younger sister deal with the scum. He just had to give her a push.

If Calix hadn’t heard anything about the garbage from Leslie, he knew for sure Evelyn would have hidden this grave matter once it happened, acting as if nothing affected her heart.

Evelyn would rather keep quiet and suffer alone than execute revenge against the cheating scumbag.

How could Calix stand that?

Her tough exterior was a mask to her soft heart.

’Nah, stop thinking about this. I should prepare dinner now.’

Pushing the thoughts about Evelyn to the back of his mind, Calix grabbed his smartphone before walking out of the home office. He planned to have an early dinner with Leslie and Calliope if possible.

For now, let Edward and Manager Yin do their assigned tasks. Calix believed he would get information related to the scumbag sooner than he expected.

Calix cooked the dishes Calliope requested. He also added two more for Leslie while thinking of her nutritional needs. Halfway through his cooking, he heard small footsteps running into the kitchen.

"Papa, Poppy can help!"

A little dumpling appeared in the kitchen when Calix was stirring the seaweed soup with tofu. She had just woken up from her nap, fully recharging her depleted battery earlier.

Calliope’s appearance cast a smile on Calix’s lips. Lowering the heat of the stove, he said to the little one, "Wear your apron first. Where’s Mama?"

"Auntie Su massage massage Mama~" replied Calliope in a sing-song voice. She deng deng deng ran closer to Calix.

Recalling Leslie’s usual massage session with the private nurse, Calix nodded. He quickly helped Calliope to wear an apron in the color pink. A white bunny holding a spatula was printed on the front.

"Okay! Come and help Papa!"

"Yayyy!"

Calix only let Calliope handle things within her means. A five-year-old like her could start helping in the kitchen. The little one just needed guidance and supervision from the adults.

The man stood facing the kitchen island while the little girl had to stand on the pink stool. The image of them spelled familial harmony.

"Wow! Papa! Look! Poppy draw love ah!"

Calix glanced at the omelet served on a plate. A messy picture intended to be a heart shape was drawn on it. Calliope drew it using some ketchup.

"Good job, Poppy. Mama will love it."

Calliope giggled, happy to receive praise from her papa. Her little heart couldn’t wait to show her drawing to her mama.

"Everything’s ready," announced Calix soon after. He looked at the food trolley standing next to the kitchen island, "Time to serve the food!"

"Yayyy!"

The father and daughter walked out of the kitchen, still clad in their aprons. Calix swiftly served all home-cooked dishes on the dining table while Calliope put the bunny mugs by the rice bowls.

"Call for Mama?" asked Calliope as Calix untied the apron.

"Yeah, let’s go and get your mama," Calix nodded.

"Hehe, okay~"

Carrying Calliope in his arms, Calix headed upstairs. Leslie was still in the bedroom, having just completed her massage session with Mrs. Su.

At seven, Calix, Leslie and Calliope gathered in the dining room for dinner. Mrs. Su ate with Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond as usual.

"Mama, Papa~" called Calliope sweetly after swallowing a bite of sweet and sour chicken. The reddish-orange sauce clung to her small mouth.

"Poppy wants more?" Calix raised his brows. He swiftly picked up some of the chicken before putting them in Calliope’s bowl, "What else?"

"Hehehe, not about chicken ah~"

Calliope giggled with lights twinkling in her round eyes, expressing she was hopeful about something. Despite saying that, she still ate the chicken her father had just given her. Her antics garnered laughter from Calix and Leslie.

Calliope grabbed some tissue to wipe her mouth before drinking some water. Once again, she looked at her parents with anticipation in her eyes.

"Poppy, do you have something... to tell Mama and Papa?"

Leslie wondered what kind of matter Calliope had in mind. She placed a thumb on the dumpling’s mouth, rubbing the leftover trace of the sauce.

Leslie’s question unknowingly enticed Calliope to giggle. The little one’s behavior piqued the adults’ interest.

Calix put down his chopsticks. Softening his smile, his attention went fully on Calliope, "Do you need anything, my buttercup?"

Calliope covered her mouth. She looked from Leslie to Calix alternatively, more giggles spilling out of her lips.

"En~ Hehe, school. Can Poppy go to school like Mia?"

Calliope’s question stunned Calix and Leslie. The husband and wife exchanged a glance before they focused on their daughter again.

"Poppy wanna go to school already?"

"Poppy wants to... make friends and study, en?"

Both Calix and Leslie popped up the questions at the same time.

Amelia told Calliope about her kindergarten life during their meeting yesterday. The latter was entranced by her younger cousin’s story, prompting her to ask her parents about it.

"Poppy wanna go to school like Mia. Poppy can? Poppy wanna make friends!"

Blinking her eyes, Calliope resembled an adorable puppy. Her parents’ stunned looks were reflected in her glossy eyes.
