Chapter 332: Boss Xu, Did You Hear a New Gossip?

’This is absurd.’

But...

Not as absurd as his nightmares disguised as dreams.

Sitting alone in his home office, Calix recalled everything Leslie had just confided in him regarding Evelyn almost one hour ago.

To say he was shocked was an understatement. His feeling went beyond that.

His sister’s secret boyfriend would cheat on her?

Did the man have a death wish?

Calix propped one elbow on the swivel chair’s armrest, supporting one side of his face. His gaze blankly stared at the closed door of the room.

Leslie’s voice continued to echo in his mind, followed by the look of regret.

"I dreamed of Evelyn getting cheated... on by her hidden lover."

"I’m sorry, Calix... I’ve been wanting to tell you this... but I kept delaying until now..."

Despite being surprised by Leslie’s other prophetic dream, Calix was relieved because it was not something as violent as what Violet might have gone through before.

Sure, no one wanted their significant other to cheat on them. But, getting violated only to be blackmailed next was more menacing.

"I’m not sure when it’ll happen... unlike before... When I heard you’re talking about Eve’s... secret relationship... I think the event might occur... when she tried to surprise him..."

Leslie openly admitted her lack of knowledge despite getting the prophetic dream. Heavy guilt clouded her usually bright eyes the more she talked about Evelyn’s issue.

Seeing her gloomy countenance made Calix feel regretful. He understood why Leslie was hesitant to bring this topic up to him when the details were still vague.

After all, Leslie only saw the image of Evelyn crying in despair alone. This likely meant the younger lady had found out about the scum cheating on her.

"Thank you for telling me, Leslie. I really appreciate it. You might not know everything but, this is helpful enough. I’ll handle it from here."

Calix gently comforted Leslie, reluctant to see her blaming herself over something she couldn’t control. They exchanged a few more words before he insisted she take some rest.

"You’re tired but, couldn’t nap because of this, en? How about resting with Poppy? I’ll try looking more into this man."

Calix inwardly sighed in relief once Leslie agreed. He assisted her back to the wheelchair before pushing her to Calliope’s bedroom.

The little one was already deep in sleep by the time they reached her princess room.

Calix thanked Leslie once again before leaving her with Calliope. He intended to call Evelyn’s longtime manager, Rose Yin to ask about the trashy man. His younger sister would only act defensive even if he asked nicely.

Unfortunately...

Manager Yin’s answer wasn’t too helpful either.

Calix peeled his gaze away from the door, looking at the sleek phone lying on the huge work desk.

’She won’t tell me much. She’s protecting Eve.’

Calix had already talked to Manager Yin, only to receive unsatisfactory replies. The middle-aged woman declared she had sworn secrecy to Evelyn regarding the man.

"I’m sorry, CEO Xu. I don’t know where you heard about Miss Eve’s boyfriend but, I can’t tell you anything about him. Why don’t you ask your sister directly?"

Manager Yin boldly told Calix to confront Evelyn himself instead of trying to get information from her. She steadfastly protected her artist despite him being Evelyn’s elder brother and the CEO of the parent company of XuGlam Entertainment.

Instead of feeling offended by Manager Yin’s action, Calix was amused. He knew he couldn’t pry for anything from her anymore. She might change her mind if the situation changed to be dire.

"I’ll stop here, Manager Yin. Eve is your artist but, I’m still your superior. Don’t say anything to her about what I’ve asked you right now."

"I understand, CEO Xu."

"One more thing. Keep a close watch on that man. Who knows? He might have a mistress hidden somewhere. You know I do not talk nonsense on important issues like this, right?

Calix heard Manager Yin’s soft gasp coming from the end of the line, perhaps she was shocked to hear the accusation.

Calix might fool around as much as he worked but, he wasn’t someone who would play with these kinds of stuff. As an experienced staff who had witnessed every trickery in the entertainment industry, Manager Yin surely took a hint from his words.

"I’ll keep watch on him, CEO Xu."

Calix didn’t pressure Manager Yin for longer despite feeling discontent about it. He ended the call by reminding her to contact him immediately if anything urgent happened to Evelyn.

"Seems like I have to resort to another trick."

Exhaling a sigh, Calix retrieved the phone from the table. He couldn’t stay still after hearing what the scum would do to his precious younger sister.

Leslie didn’t have a shred of concrete evidence yet, Calix’s trust in her was solid. He also thought it was better to be careful from the beginning.

’Cheating on my sister? Should I just cut his family jewels?’

Frowning, Calix’s expression contorted in anger. He couldn’t help but wonder how such a scum managed to deceive Evelyn.

’I’ll deal with him soon.’

Calix tapped on a number. Edward’s name was displayed on the screen.

"Boss Xu, it’s the weekend."

Edward’s raspy voice resounded from the end of the line. Seemed like Calix’s phone call had woken him up from his afternoon nap.

"I know. I need you to check on someone."

Clicking his tongue, Edward asked, "Do you have another love child hidden somewhere?"

Calix was speechless by Edward’s audacity.

His record was clean, okay? He didn’t even engage in short flings!

Cough... aside from the one with Leslie years ago.

But! He was under the influence at that time! He was not sober ah!

Irked by Edward’s question, Calix started nagging him, "Hey! I’m not promiscuous ah. There’s another scumbag you have to check for me."

"Oh?" Edward’s tone raised to an octave, sounding interested by what he had just heard from Calix, "Boss Xu, who is it? Did you get a new gossip?"

"..."

Refraining from cursing Edward, Calix quickly told him about Evelyn’s secret boyfriend. His words shocked the capable yet gossipy chief assistant.

"Boss, don’t you think the Chairman and your military brother would end the cheater’s life if they knew about this?" asked Edward quietly, sounding a little conspiratorial.

"I’ll join them. No need to worry," replied Calix monotonously.

Edward shuddered as he imagined the hundreds of phone calls his department might receive from the reporters.

"Haha... Do it when I’m on my vacation ah. I don’t want the new workload."

Calix narrowed his eyes.

Should he just cancel this guy’s summer getaway?

"There’s another thing you need to do."

Calix didn’t just tell Edward to find information about Evelyn’s hidden boyfriend. He also gave the skilled chief assistant another task.

"...what is it? Boss Xu, you’re trying to fully utilize me before I go on my vacation, right? Well, I know I’m your most capable assistant but, I’ll appreciate it if you don’t dump another work on me."

Edward’s lengthy words earned an eye-rolling from Calix. Ignoring the younger man’s attempt to be dramatic, he said, "Find me an artist. The one’s great in composite drawing. Get it done before your vacation starts."

Calix’s order thoroughly confused Edward. He asked again for clarification, "What do you need a sketch artist for? To draw your family’s portraits?"

Calix didn’t bother explaining his reasoning to Edward this time. He simply told his chief assistant to conduct the search confidentially.

"First thing first, handle Eve’s matter."

"Aye aye, boss."

After ending the call, Calix put the phone down on the work desk. He glanced at the wall clock, finding the time had hit a quarter before six.

"Time to prepare dinner, I guess."

Exhaling a sigh, Calix rose to his feet. He lifted both of his arms, doing a little bit of stretching. He had been sitting in the same posture for quite a long time.

Calix turned around to face the huge windows behind the work desk. Taking a few steps forward, he stopped one foot away from the glass panels.

Calix swept his gaze around the yard before his eyes halted at the lake.

The dazzling sunlight beamed through the lake, leaving shimmers in its wake. The view was beautiful but, sadly it didn’t help to appease his troubled mind.

’I hope it won’t happen tonight. At least, before I know who’s the guy.’

Calix tried not to worry about Evelyn but, his attempts were futile. Despite appearing calm on the surface, he was actually seething inside as he thought how that scumbag had been cheating on his younger sister.

Did the trashy man seriously think he would go unscathed once his deceit was revealed?

Even if Evelyn was too heartbroken to do anything, Calix wouldn’t let the scum off the hook easily.

The man had to kneel before him, his father and his elder brother. He might beg for a quick death instead of being under continuous torture by them.
