Chapter 331: What Kind of Restriction He Was Under?

’This... will it happen soon?’

The same question replayed in Leslie’s mind from the moment Calix told her about Evelyn’s secret relationship. Even though he was not entirely sure about it, the possibility was high.

Leslie stared at the vanity mirror in front of her, seeing how her concerned look was reflected in the glass. Her furrowing brows expressed the worries clashing in her mind.

Leslie, Calix and Calliope arrived at Graceville Manor more than one hour ago yet, the topic of Evelyn’s secret relationship still bothered her.

"I think she’s talking to her manager. Something about getting gifts for someone. Well, my instinct told me the receiver wasn’t somebody ordinary to her. Certainly, not a simple friend."

Leslie wanted to ask more about the matter but, it was clear Calix didn’t know much about it either. He only coincidentally bumped into Evelyn and caught the little details of her phone call.

’Mimo, can you come here? Didn’t you hear what Calix told us in the car earlier?’

Leslie resorted to asking Mimo despite knowing the crochet fox toy couldn’t answer her every question. Still, she had to try. It was better than nothing.

Yes, Leslie~ About Evelyn’s hidden boyfriend? Are you still worrying about that?

Answering her telepathically, Mimo’s childlike voice echoed in Leslie’s mind. The toy’s soul didn’t appear in front of her as usual. It felt more comfortable being in its physical body.

Pursing her lips, Leslie unconsciously grasped her skirt. She nodded once even though she was alone in the vanity room.

Calliope was with Calix in the lounge, playing with some puzzles. The man said he would bring the little one to take a nap soon. He told her to get some rest.

Leslie initially planned to get a shut-eye, following Calix’s advice because she slept less last night. But, she couldn’t nap even if she tried to.

After tossing and turning nonstop on the bed, Leslie moved herself to the wheelchair. She locked herself in the ensuite wardrobe, thinking she needed more privacy to converse with Mimo if required.

’I can’t help but worry. Eve is a good lady. I’m mad at myself. I should’ve talked to Calix but... I haven’t.’

Answering Leslie’s concern, Mimo attempted to comfort her.

The way how the plot progresses isn’t your fault, Leslie.

Leslie shook her head, disagreeing with Mimo.

’Calix heard about Eve wanna get a gift for someone special. Is the receiver that man? Does it mean Eve finds out he’s cheating when she wanna surprise him?’

Leslie recalled Evelyn saying she was on a short break after a long period of busy schedule. The actress didn’t advertise her sudden break to the public. Only her manager and close people knew about it.

Evelyn intended to resume her activities in two weeks unless something important came up. She likely planned to meet the trashy man during her rare break. Her status as one of the A-list actresses meant her schedule was always hectic.

Perhaps, even the man didn’t know about her being in the country for this short vacation.

Your guess is correct, Leslie. But, the timing isn’t clear to you yet.

The timing wasn’t clear to her.

But, it might not be the same for Mimo.

Leslie exhaled a sigh, already expecting such a cryptic response from Mimo. Despite knowing the crochet fox toy couldn’t or wouldn’t answer her properly, she still asked.

Someday, she had to inquire what kind of restriction Mimo was under. Was it related to assisting her during her transmigration?

Let’s try asking again.

’You can’t tell me like last time? That time when Violet was in danger?[01]

The first vision was crystal clear. Even though Leslie didn’t know where Violet’s whereabouts were, Mimo still informed her the incident would transpire the same night.

But, the same thing didn’t happen this time around.

I don’t know. And, Eve will be heartbroken but, she won’t be locked up like Violet ah.

’...I’m mad that I can’t refute you.’

Mimo’s answer frustrated Leslie yet, there was some truth in it.

Sighing once more, Leslie made up her mind. She had to tell Calix about this issue as soon as possible. She had been dilly-dallying for a few days already.

’I’ll go to Calix.’

Okay~ Come, come, Leslie! We’re having fun ah!

Stifling her laughter, Leslie shrugged. She controlled the knob and buttons, wheeling herself out of the bedroom. Determination overtook her worries about the unknown.

Leslie headed to the second-floor lounge. No matter what, she had to bring this issue up to Calix before nightfall.

Leslie didn’t know the exact time and day when Evelyn caught the scum man cheating on her. But, she believed it might happen during nighttime.

The darkness would help to conceal Evelyn’s movement as she headed to her secret lover’s abode to surprise him, not knowing another kind of surprise awaited her.

Still, this was her assumption. A guess she desperately clung her hope for.

"Oh! Mama!"

Calliope happily called Leslie as soon as she saw her mother, her whole face beaming. Calix looked up from the jigsaw puzzles, a smile was drawn on his lips once his eyes met the lady’s.

"Wanna join us? I thought you’re napping."

"Oh... I’m not that sleepy," replied Leslie with an awkward smile, "I’ve just woken up."

Rising to his feet, Calix approached Leslie sitting in the wheelchair. He placed one arm around her waist, supporting her to stand up as usual. Every one of his movements spelled how natural he was.

Calliope openly watched her parents. She couldn’t wait to play with her mama alongside her papa.

"Your steps are steadier," said Calix, a chuckle lacing his tone, imbued with pride, "You’ve worked hard, Leslie."

Leslie blinked, never expecting to receive praise from Calix out of nowhere. She shifted her eyes from his face to their hands clasped together, "Thank you. I aim to walk properly before... summer ends, en?"

"Hehe, yeah, you’ve promised yourself that."

Summer had just begun. Calix believed Leslie would achieve her goal before these three months passed. Dr. Mo and the other therapists also predicted Leslie would regain her normal physical functions within three months of her rehab.

Leslie accompanied Calliope and Calix playing the puzzles. Being fidgety inside, she couldn’t pay much attention to the game. She had to wait until the little one took a nap before talking to him.

Fortunately, her chance came very soon.

"Aww, my buttercup is a sleepy bunny now. Wanna nap in your room, Poppy?"

Calix carried the drowsy Calliope in his arms, his chuckles softly resonating in the air, expressing his inner joy toward his little daughter.

"Poppy’s princess room..."

Calliope’s answer was muffled as she buried her face in her father’s chest. Holding back from laughing too much, he gently patted the little munchkin’s back.

"Okay, say bye to Mama."

"Mama, see you... soon... haa..."

"Hehe, sleep well, Poppy..."

Leslie waited in the lounge instead of following Calix and Calliope. She silently watched the man’s tall figure disappear from the hallway as he entered their daughter’s bedroom.

’Will he be upset... because I didn’t tell him until now?’

Pressing her lips together, Leslie fiddled with her fingers. Despite knowing how patient and understanding Calix could be, she was still worried about his reaction.

After all, this issue involved his younger sister’s life.

’It’s fine. We’ve already discussed various important topics before. If I didn’t tell him, how could we proceed?’

Communicating was always hard whenever it involved critical issues. But, not talking wouldn’t solve any problems.

"Leslie, are you still sleepy?"

Calix’s voice pulled Leslie out of her deep pool of thoughts. Lifting her chin, she saw him approaching from the hallway. His footsteps were languid, showing how much he was in a relaxed state.

"Oh, not that..." Leslie smiled awkwardly. Waving one hand, she beckoned Calix to sit, "Calix, I have something to... tell you..."

Raising his brows, questions swirled in Calix’s eyes. He quickened his pace before getting a seat next to Leslie.

"Bother by something? You look troubled," Calix pointed out before jokingly adding, "Tired from meeting people?"

Leslie was uncannily quiet earlier. Calix couldn’t help but think her mind was weighed by something. Yet, he couldn’t think of any possibility.

"Do you remember how Violet... almost got violated before? About... my kind of prophetic dream?"

Calix blinked. Leslie’s question jogged down his memory to over two months ago.

"Why? Will something happen to her again?"

How could Calix forget? Despite how unbelievable Leslie’s claims were, he didn’t dare to brush them off easily. After all, the issue involved someone’s safety.

Sometimes, Calix wondered the consequences of not following Leslie’s urgent words. An immense guilt would surely claw into his heart.

Calix wouldn’t dare to face Xander and Violet anymore.

Leslie parted her lips, hesitated. She resorted to shaking her head, a layer of glum darkened her countenance.

"...I dreamed about Eve."

Calix froze, never expecting to hear Evelyn’s name in this situation.
