Win My Husband Over to Find My Child
Chapter 323: Best to Serve Your Revenge Cold

Chapter 323: Best to Serve Your Revenge Cold

A somber mood overtook the peace in the martial arts hall as Calix narrated his tale. Neither Andrian nor Vernon imagined Xander’s involvement in this issue was due to the Li family’s instigations.

Grabbing one of the mineral water bottles, Calix uncapped one for himself. His throat felt parched after sparring for so long.

"I’ve checked who spread the rumors. It’s Gladys Li, Geoffrey’s daughter. Her clique talked about... Leslie’s pregnancy."

Andrian frowned, dissatisfied with what he had just heard, "That Gladys girl always bullied Leslie before, didn’t she? She still did that?"

Calix nodded while gulping down the water. Pausing from drinking, he said, "Remember I stayed the night at the Li family’s home? She came to my bedroom to seduce me."

"What?"

"That really happened?"

"Yeah."

Disgust flickered in Andrian and Vernon’s eyes. Never did they expect such a matter to occur during Calix’s first visit to the Li family’s ancestral home.

How dared she?

He was her cousin’s husband!

Didn’t she have any shame?

What a disgrace!

Narrowing his eyes, Vernon looked pointedly at Calix, "Knowing you, you wouldn’t let her escape unscathed. Tell us. What did you do to her?"

Calix hated women who shamelessly tried climbing his bed. It wouldn’t be a problem if they were in a relationship.

Vernon’s question reminded Calix of his trickery on that night. Grinning mischievously, he replied, "I recorded a video using my body cam. I directly sent it to her father. He didn’t dare to face me the next morning."

Andrian and Vernon were speechless. They exchanged a glance before once again staring at Calix. Their look of disbelief morphed into admiration.

"...evil but, you did good, my son."

"Hahaha!"

"I’m pleased to hear that, gentlemen."

Calix felt nothing about airing Gladys’ humiliating deed to Andrian and Vernon. If she kept herself in check, this wouldn’t have happened.

"Anyway, her clique didn’t openly talk about Leslie’s pregnancy. They only did that when Belinda was nearby. They attended the same party."

"Belinda? Xander’s cousin?" asked Vernon. He was quite familiar with that name.

"Yes."

Belinda Qin was Xander’s second cousin. Because the Qin family lacked females in the younger generations, she was greatly pampered even by Xander’s parents who wished for a daughter.

Gladys’ clique subtly talked about Leslie’s secret pregnancy during a cocktail party Belinda attended more than a month ago. The curious young lady sought them out because she knew how close Xander was to Calix.

Startled by the shocking revelation, Belinda hastily passed what she heard to Xander.

The rest was history.

"They haven’t known about you getting Calliope back, don’t they?" asked Andrian, his voice gravely as his brows furrowing in disdain, "Have you decided when to tell them? Including Leslie’s parents?"

Andrian let Calix and Leslie finalize any decision together. He, his wife and his mother only played roles in offering them suggestions. Neither of them wanted to pressure the husband and wife into listening to them blindly.

"Leslie wanna talk about Calliope to her sister first," Calix recalled what Leslie had just told her before. He put the bottle on the table, "Probably after her exam."

"Irene should have been very young when it happened, right?"

Andrian knew Calix’s younger sister-in-law had just entered high school this year. She might be around ten years old when Leslie was exiled from the Li family’s home.

"Irene was quite sickly since young. The hospital was her second home, " Calix threw himself on the floor, once again laying on his back, "I think their parents made up excuses during Leslie’s long absence. The sisters have a good relationship until now."

Andrian nodded, understanding Calix and Leslie had to be careful with each step forward. Letting out a sigh, regret overtook his calmness as memories of the past resurfaced in his mind.

"Sometimes I wonder how it would be if... we knew about Leslie when you’re still in the coma. We could provide shelter for her."

Old Madam Xu and Harper shared the same concern as Andrian. They used to talk about it just among themselves because Vernon, Lucille and Evelyn only knew half of the truths.

Calix’s lips curled up, helplessness imbuing his smile. He perceived the sincerity in his father’s words. He also felt the same from his grandmother and mother.

"I used to think like that too but, we can’t do anything about the past, Dad. The situation was so chaotic at that time, right?"

Calix knew himself. He would go looking for the mysterious woman he shared a bed with that night instead of brushing what happened between them off. His conscience wouldn’t ever allow him that.

After all, Calix was aware both he and Leslie were under the influence. The uncanny circumstances that pushed them to be together that night certainly warranted some sort of investigation.

Unfortunately, the accident changed everything. Months had passed by the time he regained consciousness. Then, he solely focused on improving his weak constitution.

"Luckily, you guys met your daughter again," Vernon chimed in after keeping quiet for a long time. He glanced at his younger brother, "If not, you might not know about Calliope’s existence at all. It’s right to focus on the present instead of the past."

Vernon was thoroughly surprised the first time he heard about Calix and Leslie’s brief relationship six years ago. Especially when it resulted in having a child together.

Vernon knew Calix wouldn’t ever let Leslie and the child suffer if he knew about their grave circumstances. Even if they were no longer a couple, his younger brother wouldn’t ignore the mother and daughter.

Well, if he committed such an atrocious deed, their grandmother wouldn’t spare his life ah.

Calix didn’t know what kind of matter was thought by Vernon. He simply responded to his elder brother’s previous remark.

"I’m mad at the Li family but, I won’t rush our revenge. Leslie and I want to focus more on Calliope. We’ve lost too much time with her already."

Andrian and Vernon nodded once, agreeing with Calix and Leslie’s sentiment.

"Best to serve your revenge cold," Vernon crossed both arms over his chest, unintentionally flexing his robust biceps, "Call me if you need help to hide dead bodies."

Calix guffawed at Vernon’s remarks while Andrian smiled in helplessness.

Leslie didn’t know what kind of conversation Calix had with Andrian and Vernon. When she slowly woke up, an adorable little dumpling was waiting by her side.

"Mama~"

Calliope’s countenance brightened as soon as she saw Leslie opening her eyes. Sitting with her legs out on the mattress, she hugged Mimo in her short arms.

"Poppy, when did you come... here?" Leslie curled up her lips. In her drowsiness, she raised one hand to gently brush Calliope’s head, "Did you nap well with your... great-grandma?"

"Hehehe~ Poppy sleep sleep so much ah!"

Laughter bubbling up her little mouth, Calliope quickly lay on the bed. She scooted closer to Leslie, nestling her head on her mother’s chest.

A chuckle escaped Leslie’s lips. Lowering her eyes to look properly at Calliope, she ran the back of her hand on the little munchkin’s face.

Calliope giggled, expressing her happiness for being pampered by her mother.

The clock pointed to a quarter past three. More than two hours had passed after the end of lunchtime.

"Mama, Mama~"

Calliope sweetly called for Leslie, earning soft laughter from the lady.

"Yes, darling? Tell me more... about your nap with your... Great-Grandma and Mia, en?"

Leslie’s question prompted Calliope to giggle. The adorable sound echoed delicately in the bedroom.

"Poppy, Mia and Great-Grandma sleep together~ Great-Grandma’s bed is sooo big!"

"Hehe, really? Did Poppy and Mia... hug Great-Grandma when sleeping?"

"Great-Grandma huggie Poppy and Mia~ Hehehe~"

Calliope continued narrating the time she spent napping alongside Old Madam Xu and Amelia in the old lady’s bedroom. Pure bliss gleamed in her eyes, showing how happy she was.

"Poppy and Mia sing song to Great-Grandma~ Great-Grandma praise us!"

"Wow~ That meant your great-grandma... loved your singing..."

Relief flooded Leslie’s heart, shining through her eyes. She was pleased with her and Calix’s decision to introduce Calliope to the Xu family as soon as possible. Doing this allowed their daughter to experience new familial love from her new extended family.

"Mama, Mama, where’s Papa?"

Calliope suddenly shifted her focus to Calix’s absence. She looked around the bedroom, finding no hints of her father’s whereabouts.

It was weird not to hear her papa nagging at her ah.

"Your papa is out with your... grandpa and uncle..." Leslie slowly propped herself up to sit on the bed. She smilingly told Calliope, "They might be in the backyard..."

Calliope also sat up. Leaning her small body against Leslie’s, she asked, "Oh? Papa play with Grandpa and First Uncle?"

Leslie brushed her fingers through Calliope’s hair, trying to smoothen it. The little one purred like a kitten, clearly enjoying her mother’s pampering.

"Poppy, want to cuddle with Mama... until Papa returns?"

Calliope perked up.

"Want! Poppy want!"

Calliope immediately jumped onto Leslie like an excited munchkin. Falling on the bed, the mother and daughter shared laughter.
