Chapter 322: I Want to Kill Someone

"HAH!"

"Argh! H-hey!"

Shocked by the shouting, Evelyn abruptly looked behind her. Scrambling to hide the phone, blood draining from her face. Calix’s smug look was reflected in her eyes.

When did he get here?

Flustered, Evelyn yelled back, "S-second Brother! What are you doing here?! Shoo! Go away ah!"

Ahhh!

Did he hear what she said on the phone?

Why did this man always annoy her ah?

Evelyn didn’t know whether Calix eavesdropped on her or not. She had just ended her phone call with her manager. She swore she didn’t hear him approaching her at all!

Evelyn’s face screamed guilt, amusing Calix. It was clear how shaken she got, perhaps fearful of being heard. Being her elder brother for over two decades, he knew how she would act in such a situation.

"Hahaha! Look at your face ah! Scared, huh?"

Laughing out loud, Calix pointed at Evelyn. His cackle rang clearly in the air of the backyard. He raised his brows, showing one of his arrogant looks that had never failed to irritate her.

"How could I’m not scared ah? Are you a ghost? Tsk, walk like a normal human next time, okay?"

Evelyn retorted, getting more annoyed with Calix. Her entire face flushed red as she tried thinking of ways to get back at her elder brother.

Calix was unfazed by Evelyn’s sharp response. Putting both hands inside his pants pockets, he asked while grinning widely, "What were you talking about? Wanna surprise someone? Do you have a secret boyfriend hidden somewhere?"

Froze, Evelyn blankly stared back at Calix. She didn’t expect to receive such a question from him. Her mind unconsciously replayed her second brother’s words.

"N-not your business! Get lost!"

Pap!

"Ow!"

Evelyn smacked Calix’s arm before she hurriedly ran away from the topiaries, sprinting like a cheetah. Her slender figure quickly disappeared inside the building, followed by the fading echoes of her footsteps.

Calix was left speechless by Evelyn’s action. Brows furrowing, he rubbed the spot that fell victim to his younger sister’s violent palm. The pain was as tingly as the time he slapped himself earlier.

"Tsk tsk, she clearly has something to hide ah."

Shaking his head, Calix continued staring at where Evelyn had disappeared for a few more minutes. Then, he resumed walking to the annex.

Calix didn’t intend to delve deeper into what he had just heard from Evelyn.

Whether his younger sister was in a secret relationship or not, he didn’t mind about it. He also wouldn’t go out of his way to learn the man’s identity.

’She’ll introduce him to us once she’s ready.’

Despite their constant bantering, Calix knew Evelyn was an adult who could make choices by herself. He also believed in his sister’s judgment.

Evelyn had been great in navigating every phase of relationships with other people; from acquaintanceship to friendship or something deeper.

This time shouldn’t be any different, no?

Humming to a tune, Calix walked at a leisurely pace. The dazzling summer sun cast its light on the surroundings, enveloping the man in its heat. Tiny sweat started beading on his forehead, dripping down his temples.

"Hey! Why so late?"

Vernon’s question greeted Calix as soon as he stepped into the martial arts hall.

The former military officer was hanging upside-down from a steel bar, only wearing a pair of cargo pants. The cuts and scars he received during his service were gallantly displayed on his body.

Their father Andrian was doing some light stretches, complete in his usual choice of Tang suit. He simply glanced at Calix with a smile hanging on his lips, "Did you go and check on your daughter?"

Shrugging, Calix snickered as he lightly walked on the floor. He playfully said, "I had to tuck my wife in myself ah. If not, I won’t feel great. My daughter is already safe with my iron lady of a grandma."

Vernon scoffed while Andrian chuckled in helplessness at Calix’s cheeky answer.

"Seems like my brother is a perfect husband now."

Jumping agilely from the high horizontal pole, Vernon landed steadily on his two feet. The sharp sound of his landing echoed heavily in the hall.

"Well, you know me~"

Calix raised both arms, started warming up. He didn’t see Andrian and Vernon cast a meaningful glance between them.

Well, well, well, the youngest man in their family acted quite differently from before.

Andrian and Vernon could tell Calix had grown more affectionate toward Leslie. This was a good sign. Perhaps their marriage would last longer than the initial expectation.

Soon, Calix and Vernon stood across Andrian, each taking their positions. They sensed the immense power hidden beneath their father’s smile.

"Come at me!"

Andrian roared, simply standing straight opposite his sons.

"Yes!"

The sunlight pierced through the open wooden windows, falling on the tatami mat flooring the entire hall. The father and sons exchanged blows and kicks, their fluid movements were statements to the deep skills and knowledge ingrained into them.

Their bare feet heavily grazed the tatami mat, sending faint dust into the air amidst the outburst of the men’s precise and powerful strikes.

Despite engaging in an intense sparring session, they were barely breathless.

"Your movements are shabby today, son."

Andrian easily dodged Calix’s attempt to hit the crook behind his knee. The young man gasped, stunned by his father’s statement.

"Huh? Shabby, me?"

Andrian nodded once. Marching forward, he swiftly grasped Calix’s collar and yanked him toward his direction.

"Something’s bothering you?"

"Ah!"

Calix’s body drifted forward. Andrian used more force than usual, sending him to the floor.

Calix quickly rolled on the tatami mat before jumping, spreading one leg out while landing. Breathing slightly haggard, he stared at Andrian and Vernon who stopped moving.

"Your strikes and footwork were messy," Vernon pointed out, sharing the same view as Andrian. Wiping his sweaty forehead with one arm, he said, "You’re usually like this if an issue bugs you."

Andrian nodded. He gestured to the low table where bottles of water were placed, "Let’s sit there."

Vernon swiftly headed there, following Andrian. Calix let out a long sigh, admitting his motions lacked impact and accuracy today.

Feeling uncomfortable with the damp T-shirt, Calix took it off. He threw himself on the floor as soon as he reached the table area.

"Dad, Brother..."

Andrian and Vernon stared at Calix. The youngest man looked straight to the ceiling before more words flowed out of his mouth.

"I want to kill someone ah."

Andrian and Vernon exchanged a glance. The latter asked, "Do you need help? I have plenty of experience."

Calix guffawed at Vernon’s answer. His statement piqued Andrian and Vernon’s interest.

"Tell us ah," Vernon stood not far from Calix and Andrian, performing some warming down, "Is it that Li family?"

Vernon had already known about the Li family forcibly taking the infant Calliope away from Leslie years ago. He knew his elderly grandmother and parents supported Calix to avenge his wife and daughter.

"Didn’t you have something to tell us?" asked Andrian after taking a few mouthfuls of water. He glanced at his second son, "What was it?"

Calix recalled his phone call with Andrian a few days ago. He initially wanted to tell his father about Xander’s unpleasant visit and the new fact he learned from his longtime friend.

But, Calix stopped. He thought it was better to bring this issue up when he met his grandmother and parents face to face. They would surely be surprised to learn about this.

"Grandma needs to know too," Calix uttered under his breath. Tearing his gaze away from the ceiling, he looked back at Andrian, "I’ll just tell her again later."

Andrian raised his brows, wondering what kind of matter had been weighing down Calix’s mind. His second son’s countenance might look calm but, he was actually very pissed off deep inside.

Taking a deep breath before releasing it, Calix’s scarred chest heaved up and down. He propelled his body forward, sitting on the tatami mat. His gaze shifted from Andrian to Vernon alternatively.

"Xander visited my house a few nights ago."

Confusion flitted in Vernon’s eyes while Andrian seemed more interested in listening to Calix’s story. None of them expected the heir of the Qindom Group to be brought up by the youngest man.

"Did Xander help you in this?" asked Vernon, referring to Calix’s plan to ruin the Li family.

Calix shook his head, nonverbally answering to his elder brother. Parting his lips, he began his story, "Before, I didn’t know why Xander was so harsh on Leslie."

Despite being perplexed by Calix’s words, Andrian and Vernon didn’t butt in with more questions. They silently listened to him talking. The man’s voice faintly echoed in the large training hall.

Calix began by saying how annoyed he was when Xander told him to divorce Leslie. Then, he moved to the main topic of his friend’s visit a few nights ago.

"Xander accused Leslie of tricking me into faking Calliope as my birth daughter. He said her helplessness has blinded me into agreeing with her."

"He insisted I divorce her just so I didn’t have to raise another man’s child. He knew about that damn family banished Leslie years ago."

Calix’s tone held a semblance of regret and hatred as he spoke, directed at both Xander and the Li family.

He regretted how easily his friend believed other people’s words instead of asking him directly.

And...

He hated the Li family for being the root of his wife’s misery all these years and continued tormenting her even after she left!
