Chapter 321: The Nation’s Desired Husband’s First Runner-up

Calliope and Amelia sat side by side during lunchtime. Their immediate closeness touched the adults’ hearts. It was obvious how both children adored each other.

"Sister Poppy, look! Mia has Tuzi~ Can Tuzi be friends with Mimo?"

"Mia is sleepy. Sister Poppy, no sleepy yet?"

"Oh~ Sister Poppy is so smart! Can Sister Poppy teach Mia?"

Amelia tailed behind Calliope like a little chick following the mother hen. The latter also enjoyed being with her younger cousin. They even took a nap together in the afternoon.

"I didn’t expect Mia to get so close to our Poppy in just a short time," Calix chuckled as he recalled the two little girls’ interaction. His eyes fell on Leslie who had just lay on the bed.

"It’s great to see Poppy get comfortable... with everyone," replied Leslie, her voice sounding a little drowsy, "Hehe, I wonder if Poppy and Mia wanna... sleep together tonight."

Vernon, Lucille and Amelia would stay the night at the Xu family’s ancestral home as well, including Evelyn. The popular actress was on a short break after a long period of hectic schedule.

"They might," Calix shrugged, laughter imbuing in his voice. He approached the bed, sitting on the edge while looking at Leslie, "Take a nap. I think Poppy and Mia won’t wake up until later."

Calliope and Amelia were together with Old Madam Xu, napping in their great-grandmother’s bedroom. Lucille and Evelyn also had retreated to their respective rooms after having lunch together.

Old Madam Xu was more than happy to offer her bed to her precious great-granddaughters. She told her maids to prepare more pillows and blankets before Amelia and Calliope followed her to her room.

While lying on the bed, Leslie recalled what Calix had planned to do with Andrian and Vernon. They talked about it during lunch. The three men didn’t show any signs of rest.

"I heard you, First Brother and Dad... want to spar. Is it your practice before... Poppy brings her first boyfriend later?"

Leslie’s question earned laughter from Calix, his countenance expressed his helplessness. He quickly remembered their short conversation earlier.

"You’re being cheeky ah. Take a nap."

Calix pulled the blanket from the lower part of the bed, planning to cover Leslie. Her eyes curved into two crescent moons, flickering with a hint of mischief.

"Hehe, don’t get beaten by First Brother ah..."

Calix made a face, "...urgh, I can’t deny that even if I want to."

Sparring against his father? He surely could win.

But, sparring against his elder brother? His death might come first.

Sometimes, a light sparring turned into a full-blown fight if his elder brother was the opponent.

Calix’s remark prompted Leslie to laugh more. She buried her face into the pillow, trying to muffle her giggles. Seeing her reaction, he man held back the urge to tickle her tummy.

"I gonna change my clothes."

"Yeah, go..."

Rising to his feet, Calix headed to the ensuite wardrobe. He intended to change his outfit to a more comfortable one. He grabbed a pair of loose long pants and a baggy T-shirt before undressing himself.

Calix stood shirtless opposite the full-length mirror. He briefly looked at the huge scar extending below his collarbones before his eyes fell on his toned abs.

"I can boast my body if we go to the beach ah..."

CEO Xu patted his abdominal muscles twice, thinking of the hard work he endured this entire time to maintain such a fit body and gain greater stamina.

Leslie loved looking at eye-candies[01] in the dramas and movies. Then, shouldn’t she be enamored by his face by now? They had been spending time together for a few months already.

"What use of the awards I won all this time ah?" grumbled Calix, dissatisfied with the situation, "If I can’t charm my own wife?"

Calix believed no actors could defeat his devilishly handsome looks. He often won second place in the annual polls conducted by entertainment magazines and websites.

Most of the polls were just for fun. Some of the titles he won the first funner-ups were The Most Eligible Bachelor in the Country, The Nation’s Desired Husband, and The Perfect Son-in-Law to Bring Home.

Despite not being an actor or singer, Calix was still included on the lists.

But, why did he only win second places so far?

Simple. All because Xander swept every first crown.

"...wait, we have a pool ah. I can just show off there."

Scratching his chin, Calix came up with the plan. He could start doing it tomorrow once they returned home.

Calliope already had a few sets of adorable swimsuits and floats. She was eager to use them but, had no chance yet.

Yes! Charm her with his good looks and perfect gentlemanly manners!

Calix quickly dressed himself in his chosen clothes. He saw a sleeping Leslie as soon as he stepped out of the wardrobe.

Oh ya...

Calix paused on his steps, thinking back to the possibility of Calliope and Amelia sleeping with his grandmother tonight.

If that happened... didn’t it mean he would spend time alone with her in this room?

Slap!

Calix smacked his own face, inwardly berating himself. A tingly pain spread on his left cheek.

’Stupid, Calix. Don’t think any bad thoughts ah!’

Calix quickly shook his head as if trying to chase the creeping dirty thoughts away. He breathed in and out, hoping to calm his gleeful heart.

Sigh...

"Have a good nap."

Calix whispered while adjusting the blanket over Leslie. He didn’t forget to draw in the curtain to dim the bedroom. Turning around, he tip-toed to the door.

Vernon and Andrian should be in the backyard already. They planned to spar in the annex exclusively used for practicing martial arts. The father and sons hadn’t done so in over a month.

"En? Isn’t that Eve? What’s she doing?"

Calix caught the sight of Evelyn standing in between the topiaries. If he didn’t particularly look in that direction, he wouldn’t ever see her. The topiaries hid his younger sister’s frame.

A pair of horns raised on Calix’s head. Instead of directly heading to the martial arts hall, he turned to the left, planning to surprise Evelyn from behind.

"...yes, get that one for me. I wanna surprise him with it."

Calix barely caught the words spoken by Evelyn. He didn’t notice she was talking to the Bluetooth earphones. She sounded cheery as she talked to the person at the end of the line.

"Well, he’s kind of depressed lately, right? I hope to cheer him up ah."

"Hehe, I can’t wait to go and see him."

Blinking, Calix stopped in his tracks.

’He? Surprise him?’
