Chapter 320: You Don’t Want Your Sons to Commit Murders, Right?
Calliope was showered with attention and gifts from everyone once they gathered in one of the drawing rooms. Leslie and Calix let her talk to the others by herself as the little dumpling was known to chat well.
Old Madam Xu led the conversation by asking about Calliope’s days in the orphanage. The little one merrily shared stories about her friends and the caretakers.
Happy chatters and laughter echoed in the drawing room, spreading joy in the air.
As Calliope animatedly chatted with Old Madam Xu, Harper, Evelyn and the others, Amelia slowly walked to her while holding something. She pursed her lips, appearing a little hesitant.
Amelia stopped right opposite Calliope. The latter stopped talking, shifting her gaze from Old Madam Xu to Amelia. Her eyes brightened in delight.
"Mia!"
Amelia’s cheeks flushed when Calliope called her name while smiling widely.
"Sister Poppy, Mia’s storybook, wanna read?"
Amelia held a children’s storybook in her small hands, blushingly asking Calliope to read together. Her round eyes had a mixture of excitement and bashfulness from when she introduced herself to her new cousin.
Amelia had been waiting to meet Calliope. She often asked Vernon and Lucille about her new cousin, eager to form a friendship with her.
Thankfully, the day finally came!
Calliope blinked, never expecting Amelia to suggest reading a book together. Peeling her eyes away from her younger cousin, she looked alternatively at Leslie and Calix.
Understanding what the little one meant, Calix nodded, "Go on. You can read the book with Mia."
Perking up, Calliope flashed her brightest grin. She loved talking to her great-grandma and everyone but, Amelia’s storybook looked more entertaining ah. She returned her eyes to her younger cousin.
"Come, Mia, come."
Calliope slid from the couch, following Mia to sit on the carpet. The adults’ eyes observed their movement.
"Hehe, look at them, like twins," uttered Harper, her smile softening at the sight of her granddaughters, "Aw~ Now I feel like getting them matching dresses. What do you think, Lucille? Leslie?"
"Poppy is just one year older than Mia," Andrian chimed in, as happy as his wife. A light flickered in his eyes as he thought of something, "Oh my, I can’t wait for them to enter school together. Surely boys will flock to our lovely girls."
Calix and Vernon froze before they rigidly turned to look at Andrian. Their father’s remarks hit the sensitive spot in their hearts, rendering them speechless.
What?
The boys trying to charm their beloved daughters as soon as they entered school?!
Calix and Vernon couldn’t utter even a single word as the images of Calliope and Amelia holding hands with one schoolboy each flashed in their minds.
No!
How dare those schoolboys think to get closer to their daughters ah?
Never!
Everyone noticed a similar look of dissatisfaction on the men’s faces.
"Dad, you don’t want your sons to commit murders, right?" Evelyn snickered, casually throwing those words out, "First Brother and Second Brother are surely thinking of your remark."
"Language!" Harper smacked Evelyn’s thigh once, hissing, "Don’t let your nieces learn that ah."
"Mom!"
She was not at fault!
"Hahaha!" Andrian burst out laughing. Crossing both hands over his chest, he smugly told Calix and Vernon, "Now you know what I felt when your little sis here showed me her first school boyfriend."
"Dad!"
Evelyn was exasperated. Why did she get dragged into this ah?
Calix and Vernon were still speechless. Leslie and Lucille exchanged a look, sharing some laughter before they focused on their husbands.
"Dad is just kidding around ah," Lucille patted Vernon’s right arm, amused by her husband’s gloomy countenance, "Don’t think about it much."
"...I remember the brat from last week. He hugged our Mia from behind."
Vernon muttered under his breath but, his tone was audible enough to be heard by everyone. His remark caught Calix’s attention.
"What do you mean, First Brother? Did... did some brat dare to hug Mia?"
Calix’s tone remained stiff, shocked from hearing his father’s words to his brother’s story. He unconsciously grasped his knees hard. His protective instinct abruptly flared out within his body.
"Hahaha, it’s Mia’s friend from her kindergarten," Lucille laughingly explained the situation to everyone. She playfully smacked Vernon’s arm, "They’re just playing hide and seek. The boy caught Mia."
Lucille’s story caused more laughter to explode within the drawing room.
Old Madam Xu shook her head, sighing out of helplessness. She looked at Andrian, Vernon and Calix alternatively. Disdain glinted in her old eyes.
"Vernon, Calix, don’t be like your father ah. How could a grownup man like him get mad at Eve’s high school boyfriend? That boy was scared away by him."
"Dad did a good job."
"We should follow his way."
The brothers replied to their grandmother at the same time. Their answers irritated the old lady.
"Huh! Can’t be saved ah!"
Lucille, Leslie and Harper laughed while Evelyn joined Old Madam Xu eye-rolling at the three men.
Calliope and Amelia didn’t pay attention to their surroundings anymore. They sat next to each other, their small heads almost touched as they bent to look at the colorful storybook.
"You know, this is about a wolf and a sheep ah."
Amelia pointed to the illustration of a wolf and a sheep huddled together after a rainstorm. Calliope went ohh and ahh as the former kept talking about the story.
None of them cared to see what their parents and the others were talking about.
"I better look at my great-granddaughters than you stuck-up men."
Still annoyed by her son and grandsons, Old Madam Xu placed her gaze on Amelia and Calliope. A chuckle slipped out of her mouth as she saw the two little turnip heads immersed in their own world.
Leslie and Calix also looked at Calliope and Amelia. Lucille and Vernon were having a banter, including Andrian and Harper.
Seeing how Calix’s expression was still frozen, Leslie leaned closer to him. She whispered, "Will you get mad too when Poppy... introduces you to her first boyfriend?"
"I won’t get mad, but..."
Calix trailed off, stiffly turning to look at Leslie. Their eyes met.
"I’ll drag him for a sparring."
Leslie was speechless.
Wasn’t that the same thing?!
