Chapter 303: Dealing with a Stubborn Male Lead is Troublesome
’What if Xander still heard about it?’
Leslie couldn’t help but think of that possibility. She quietly looked at Calix who focused on his driving. He seemed unbothered by their sudden meeting with Violet earlier.
As if sensing he was being watched, Calix briefly stared at Leslie through the rearview mirror. Raising his brows, he smiled lopsidedly.
"What? Are you thinking about Violet?"
Calix’s question was replied to with a soft hum by Leslie. Before verbally responding to him, he glanced at Calliope. The little one was napping in the child’s car seat, unable to beat her drowsiness.
"I was just thinking... what if your friend still heard about it?" whispered Leslie as she stroked Calliope’s head.
Leslie didn’t doubt Violet’s promise. She was simply wondering about the plot shifting because of the changes brought by her and Calliope’s presence in this world.
Xander had already known her as Calix’s wife despite not meeting her physically yet. It wouldn’t be strange if he magically learned about Calliope before Calix had a chance to tell his friends about it.
’After all, Xander still has the male lead’s halo.’
Calix quietly listened to Leslie’s concern. He gently tapped a finger on the steering wheel, his eyes focusing on the road ahead.
Leslie’s worries were not far-fetched. Even though Calix subtly warned Violet and her assistant not to tell anyone—including Xander—about her and Calliope, his stubborn yet resourceful friend might still know.
"Can you let me deal with it if that happens?" asked Calix after racking his brain, unsure how to properly respond to Leslie. Once again he caught her expression through the rearview mirror.
Leslie also locked her gaze on the mirror, meeting Calix’s eyes, "Yes, I believe you can... handle it well, Calix."
Despite being with Calix in less than four months, Leslie could safely say she had absolute trust in him.
The sincerity in Leslie’s words softened Calix’s smile. He couldn’t deny how good he felt just by hearing her saying she believed in him.
"Thank you, Leslie."
Leslie chuckled, never expecting to receive thank-yous in this kind of situation.
"Who should I trust if not... my husband ah?" replied Leslie in jest, her eyes curving in delight.
"Hahaha! You got a point!"
Shaking her head in helplessness, Leslie was immensely grateful for having Calix. Despite their marriage starting uncannily, he had never failed to show how reliable he was as a husband and a man.
’I hope Xander won’t learn about Poppy yet. Dealing with a stubborn male lead is troublesome.’
Leslie threw her gaze out of the window, watching the surrounding area blur into thin lines. Calliope was still deep in her nap. Hopefully, she wouldn’t feel cranky when Calix had to wake her up once they arrived at their next destination.
As per Calix’s words, the store he wanted to drop by was along the way to Mapleview Hills. Arriving at the business district, he gradually slowed down the vehicle while turning on the left car signal.
Leslie quietly watched Calix pulling over by the roadside. The business district was quite busy, on both the left and right sides of the major roads. Each shop was bustling with patrons.
"Are we here already?" asked Leslie in wonder.
"Yup," Calix grinned, unlatching the seatbelt. He reached out for the car door handle on his side, "Let me get you out first."
Nodding, Leslie turned toward Calliope. She wanted to wake the little one up while Calix brought out her wheelchair from the trunk.
"Darling, we’re here... Wake up, my sweetie..."
Fortunately, Calliope woke up easily. Rubbing her eyes, she randomly asked, "Where? To eat? Poppy wants some cupcakes... haa..."
Leslie refrained from laughing as Calliope yawned. Calix had already unfolded the wheelchair and put it on the pedestrian walkway right next to the car.
"Wake up, buttercup! You can continue sleeping at home soon."
Calliope let out a long yawn. Smacking her lips in her drowsiness, she asked, "En... where we now, Papa?"
"Hehe, you have to come out and see ah."
Calix helped Leslie to the wheelchair before he carried the drowsy Calliope. Logan parked the van nearby. He, Mrs. Sang and two other bodyguards quietly approached the family of three.
"Mrs. Sang, please push my wife," said Calix to the temporary private nurse. He let Calliope drop her head on his right shoulder, "I need to carry our child."
"Yes, Mr. Xu."
Only Mrs. Sang followed the family of three as the bodyguards waited outside. Leslie finally realized where the man wanted to take her and Calliope.
It was a craft supply store!
Mrs. Sang pushed the wheelchair on the ramp as the group entered the store. They were welcomed by myriads of colors and various items sold by the shop.
Calix led them to the section displaying yarn balls. He tried to wake Calliope up once they reached the area.
"Poppy, don’t you want Papa to make you a big strawberry pillow?" Calix let out helpless laughter. He gently patted Calliope’s back, "Wake up ah. Help Papa to choose the colors."
"En... Strawberry pillow?"
Shutting her eyes tight, Calliope shook her head repeatedly, trying to chase her sleepiness away. Once she lifted her eyelids, her eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets at the sight of the colorful yarn balls.
"Wow~ So pretty! Like rainbows! Ah, Papa, Poppy wanna walk."
Calliope wiggled from Calix’s embrace, wanting to stand on her short legs. Amused by the little one’s antics, he lowered her to the floor.
"Which one do you want, buttercup? Look, the shop has so many pink colors."
Calix gestured to the entire aisle of yarn balls. Calliope pressed her small palms on her cheeks, sighing in wonder.
"Oh~ Wow, so many!"
"Hehe, choose! We’ll get some cotton stuffing next."
Leslie was in awe. She didn’t expect Calix to bring Calliope here to pick up the yarn balls. He really intended to crochet a giant strawberry toy for the little dumpling.
Smiling to herself, Leslie immersed herself in the warmth shared by the father and daughter.
