Chapter 302: Bumping into the Female Lead

Seeing Violet and her assistant surprised Calix but, he didn’t let his feelings be revealed on his face. Doing so would make them, especially the actress feel more suspicious.

Calix didn’t close the door on Leslie’s side nor did he pull Calliope to hide behind him. He simply greeted his best friend’s girlfriend.

"Violet, I didn’t expect to see you here," said Calix calmly. He glanced at the assistant before once again looking at Violet, "Meeting Xander for lunch? Having a discussion with the production?"

Xander and Violet picked this restaurant as one of their limited dating spots because of its privacy. At the same time, several big productions tended to invite their actors and actresses to dine here.

Evelyn used to come to this restaurant because of her work commitments instead of due to her private schedule.

"I’ll meet Director Song here soon," replied Violet cautiously, still unsure of what she was seeing now, "Well... Xander said he wanna come too."

Violet had just arrived with her manager and assistant. As soon as she came out of the company van, she spotted Calix in the front yard of the restaurant.

Violet didn’t find it weird to bump into Calix at this fine dining restaurant. Xander used to hold a feast involving her, Evelyn, Calix and Davin here.

But...

Seeing the lady in the wheelchair and the young girl wearing a bucket hat surprised Violet.

’That lady should be Mrs. Xu. Then... who’s that girl? She’s not Amelia.’

Violet had already heard about Calix’s wife waking up from Xander. She also knew the lady—Mrs. Xu—was wheelchair-bound due to her weak physical.

Unable to contain her curiosity, Violet told her manager to get inside as she wanted to greet Calix. Only her assistant tagged along, heading to the SUV parked under the extending branches of trees.

Sensing the conflicting look in Violet’s eyes, Calix glanced at Leslie. She was perfectly visible from the open car door.

Leslie’s expression indicated her surprise at seeing Violet and her assistant. As if she noticed him staring at her, she shifted her gaze from the two ladies to him.

Calix stepped closer to Leslie, whispering, "I’ll introduce you and Poppy to them. Is it fine?"

Understanding what Calix meant, Leslie nodded. She also lowered her tone, "It’s fine. We can’t hide forever."

Calix smiled in relief. He returned his focus to Violet, "I’m sure you’re surprised. This is my wife, Charlene Xu. Her nickname is Leslie. Leslie, this is Violet Yu, a promising actress and Xander’s girlfriend."

"Ah... hello, Mrs. Xu. I’m Violet Yu, an actress under XuGlam."

Violet didn’t expect to be introduced to the lady in the car. Flustered, she nodded twice at Leslie.

"Hello, Miss Yu..." Leslie smiled at the younger woman, didn’t intend to make their first physical meeting awkward, "I’ve heard about you from... my husband. I’m sorry... I can’t go out to... greet you..."

"Ah, it’s fine! You’re still recuperating, aren’t you? Focus on your recovery, please..."

As the two ladies were caught in an awkward conversation, Calix picked Calliope from the ground. The little munchkin was curiously looking at Violet.

"Violet, this is Leslie and I’s daughter, Calliope," said Calix without beating around the bush about the child in his arms.

"...huh?"

Bewildered by the identity of the little girl, Violet’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets. Even the assistant’s face dropped.

The news of CEO Xu’s sudden marriage was surprising enough!

He already had a child with his wife?! And not even an infant!

Already expecting how their reactions would be, Calix was unbothered. He continued speaking, or rather, subtly warning them. A lazy amusement was reflected on his face.

"There are some circumstances. I won’t be telling you about them yet. Please keep it quiet from Xander as well."

Violet and the assistant froze, sensing the hidden chills beneath Calix’s words. They stiffly nodded, showing they understood.

"Yes. I won’t breathe a word to anyone."

The assistant said nothing. She didn’t dare to look at Calix, the one leading the Xu International. She was merely an employee of one of its subsidiaries.

"We’ll head home now. We’ve had a long day since morning."

"T-then, I’ll take my leave."

Stuttering, Violet looked at Leslie. The latter smiled softly at her.

"See you later, Miss Yu... It’s a pleasure to meet you today..."

"Likewise, Mrs. Xu. Let’s have a chat next time. Have a good day."

"Bye-bye~"

Calliope suddenly waved at Violet. She didn’t know who the stylish lady was but, the woman might be her mama and papa’s friend.

"Bye-bye, Calliope."

Violet waved back at Calliope, thinking how cute the little girl was despite having half of her face obscured by the bucket hat. Not long after, Violet and her assistant walked away from the area.

Calix no longer paid attention to them. He strapped Calliope to the child’s car seat before storing the folded wheelchair in the spacious trunk.

As Calix and Logan drove away from the restaurant, they didn’t notice Violet was still looking in their direction.

The actress shook her head in helplessness. She really didn’t expect to learn something shocking about Calix and his family.

Because of her involvement with Xander, Violet learned the murkiness beneath the glamor of high society. She believed there was something more than met the eye but, it was not her place to interfere.

’Xander will be more frustrated if he knows. Sigh, I don’t understand that man at all.’

Violet recalled how Xander seemed to be in a bad mood whenever Calix was brought up. She warned her boyfriend not to intervene in his best friend’s marriage but, Xander stubbornly believed Calix deserved someone better.

"Remember, don’t say anything about them," Violet told her assistant, fully understanding this was not a simple matter, "Act like you didn’t see them at all."

"...yes, Sister Vee."

Letting out a sigh, Violet walked into the restaurant. Her assistant hurriedly followed from behind. The director and others would arrive soon.

Well, the female lead might plan to keep the matter secret but, what if the news still reached the male lead’s ears?
