Chapter 208: We’re Lucky to Marry Each Other

Leslie talked nothing more to Rowan and Bianca, unwilling to prolong their awkward greeting. She shot Calix a grateful look when he chimed in and began introducing his parents and the rest of his family to her.

"My handsome dad and beautiful mom, now retired. They passed the baton to me just to overwork me to death ah."

"My elder brother Vernon looks tough but, he’s actually a softie. Maybe that’s why my sister-in-law Lucille falls for him."

Calix’s introduction earned laughter from Andrian and Lucille as well as a glare from Harper and Vernon. Old Madam Xu said nothing, knowing how weird her second grandson could be.

Leslie smiled in helplessness, thinking how Calix was courting death. She had a feeling that Harper and Vernon wouldn’t just let him be.

"Hello, Father-in-law and... Mother-in-law. It’s a pleasure... to meet you..."

Leslie lightly bowed at Andrian and Harper, wanting to properly greet them for the first time. She also did the same for Vernon, Lucille and Amelia.

"It’s nice to meet you too, Charlene."

"We’re glad to finally meet you today."

"Was the journey okay for you? It’s short but, can you bear it?"

"How are you now? Calix said your therapists are doing a good job."

Andrian, Harper, Vernon and Lucille returned Leslie’s greetings, trying to make the young lady feel welcome. They were genuinely happy to finally meet Calix’s newly wedded wife tonight.

Leslie answered them one by one. While doing so, she noticed Amelia’s gaze. Shifting her eyes to the little one, Leslie greeted the child.

"Hello..."

"Hello, Second Aunt. My name is Amelia," the little turnip head eloquently introduced herself after the adults were done with their turn. She smiled shyly at Leslie, "Second Aunt can call me Mia. I’m four years old."

Leslie’s lips melted into a smile. Her heart was tickled by how adorable the little one looked when greeting her.

"Hello, Mia. I..." Leslie paused, hesitating how to address herself before resuming, "Second Aunt is happy to meet you... tonight... Your green dress is pretty... like a cute pixie..."

Amelia wore a puffed-sleeve cotton dress. Tiny yellow and white flowers were embroidered on the skirt of the knee-length dress. Her long black hair was put into a bun, adorned by a yellow ribbon.

Seeing Amelia reminded Leslie of a popular pixie in fairytales. Her daughter Calliope liked the character too.

Leslie’s praise perked Amelia up, her round eyes glimmering with admiration toward her younger uncle’s wife. The little one’s appraisal of the former only became better.

"Second Aunt, you’re like a fairy too! You wear a green dress like me, hehehe~"

Amelia happily pointed at her green dress before gesturing to Leslie’s mint one. Her action caught everyone’s attention, amused by the little turnip head’s antics.

"Oh, I just noticed it... Hehe, Mia is right..."

Pleased, Leslie looked at the mint green dress of her choice. She picked this one when Mrs. Su asked about her outfit earlier.

Thank goodness she chose this one instead of any in her favorite pink color.

Amelia’s vibrant joy exploded more, "Right? Mia and Second Aunt are fairies~ Cute fairies! Second Uncle is lucky to marry Second Aunt ah!"

Calix almost choked. He didn’t expect to get his name dragged by Amelia. Squinting his eyes, he held back from pulling the little one’s hair bun.

"Of course ah, I’m lucky," responded Calix nonchalantly, shrugging, "Your aunt is lucky too. We’re lucky to marry each other. Isn’t it right, wifey?"

"..."

Leslie held back from shaking her head. Her cheeks were tinted with the color pink as heat spread from her ears down to her neck.

This guy ah... How could he be so brazen?

Calix’s shameless remarks and Amelia’s infectious laughter softened the lingering tension in the drawing room. The light atmosphere caught two people’s attention.

Rowan and Bianca’s dull countenances slightly improved, pleased to see how well the Xu family welcomed their eldest daughter. This was their current wish.

After wronging Charlene for decades, the least they could do was marry her to a good husband from a good family.

Rowan and Bianca had been thinking about it after throwing Sarah into prison. Fortunately, Calix and the Xu family fell into that category.

"We should head to the dining room now. Let’s chat over dinner," Andrian clapped his hands once while standing up from the couch, "I believe we have lots to talk about."

"Come, everyone. Don’t just stay here," Harper followed her husband, urging everyone to head to the dining room, "Our chefs promised to give their all for dinner. I wonder which dishes they’d prepared for us."

Everyone chimed in agreement. Vernon helped Old Madam Xu while Amelia clung to Lucille. One by one, they got up from their seats.

Calix assisted Leslie back to the wheelchair. Irene approached them while Rowan and Bianca watched from their spots, hesitating to get closer.

"Let me push Big Sister," Irene waved at Leslie before glancing at Calix, "Big Brother, you can step away now."

Calix clicked his tongue but, he still did as he was told. He let Irene take over while he followed nearby.

Irene had started addressing Calix as ’Big Brother’, less formal and less mouthful than the usual ’Brother-in-law’. She grew more comfortable with the latter, viewing the man as a reliable big brother figure.

"Don’t push too much. What if you accidentally send your sister’s wheelchair flying?"

"I won’t do that ah. Don’t be so naggy. You’ll get older faster."

Leslie smilingly listened to Calix and Irene’s banter, thinking it would be more chaotic if Evelyn was present. The young man had to go against two instead of one.

Soon, everyone was seated in the dining room. Calix took over from Irene, pushing Leslie to a spot next to his chair. The teenager rounded the table to head to where Rowan and Bianca sat.

Old Madam Xu’s seat was at the head of the table. She gazed across the room, wearing a comforting smile on her wrinkly lips. The glint in her eyes was lively.

"Both families are here now. We’re going to celebrate Charlene’s recovery and her marriage to Calix. I wish that their union will forever be blessed."

Andrian and Harper nodded, showing their approval. Rowan and Bianca did the same, wearing a look of relief.

Calix glanced at Leslie, their gazes colliding when the latter did the same. Similar smiles were crafted on their lips, expressing the aligning of their feelings.
