Chapter 202: Who Was the Pitiful Person

Leslie’s curiosity about Calix’s love life stayed as one. Even though he was an easygoing person, she had no intention of touching on the subject.

Even though Calix had one or two in the past, it might be a sensitive subject. Most people disliked recalling their previous romantic failures.

Perhaps, Leslie would ask Calix when they grew even closer than now. Or, if an opportunity arose in the future.

Leslie continued watching the news. She didn’t realize twenty minutes had passed when Calix finally made his appearance in the lounge. She barely caught the sound of his car engine reverberating outside.

"Welcome home, Calix..." curling up her lips, Leslie shifted her eyes from the TV screen to the man, "Did you get stuck... in a traffic jam?"

Leslie’s question was a simple one but, Calix chuckled as if he was entertained by it. Striding toward her, his fingers deftly unbuttoned the suit jacket before taking it off his body.

"Guess what? I went to meet someone today."

Raising his brows and one corner of his lips, Calix smirked at Leslie. He threw himself on the couch near her, a playful glint flickering in his peach blossom eyes.

Propping one hand on the armrest and crossing his legs, Calix openly stared at Leslie. He kept grinning like a Cheshire cat while leaning sideways on the backrest.

Leslie was amused by how Calix acted as soon as he got home. His cheery tone sounded as if he happily troubled the party he met just now.

Knowing him, it was the most likely scenario.

"Who’s the pitiful person... you met?"

Intrigued, Leslie no longer paid attention to the news. Her question earned laughter from Calix. Throwing his head back slightly, he guffawed.

"Hahaha! I met your father today ah!"

"...what?" Leslie unconsciously raised her brows, her eyes widening in surprise, "Did you really meet... my father? Was it... about me?"

Both Calix and Leslie had the same opinion. He needed to tell Rowan about her current health condition and when she regained consciousness. It should be done before the family meal this Friday.

But, Leslie didn’t actually expect Calix to have a face-to-face meeting with Rowan. She simply assumed the man would make a phone call to the middle-aged man. After all, the two men didn’t share a good and close relationship.

"But, why? A phone call... is enough... You don’t have to go out... of your way to meet him..."

"It’s just a courtesy from his son-in-law," shrugging, Calix replied with a lazy smile tugging on his lips, "Well, shouldn’t I see your father’s shocked face once I revealed about you?"

Helplessness tinged Leslie’s smile, entertained by Calix’s reason. That was so like him.

"What did he say? I mean... if he said any..."

Chuckling, Calix recalled the short meeting happening between him and Rowan. The two men met at a restaurant, suggested by the latter.

"Well, it’s just as we expected. He was shocked. He wanted me to meet you, but I refused. I told him you’re still not ready to talk or meet him. He has to wait until Friday."

Calix quickly shot Rowan’s request down as soon as the middle-aged man brought it up. He tried to be polite but, his tone was quite snarky.

"Oh? Well... that’s expected," Leslie randomly nodded her head, trying to imagine the men’s short meeting, "Anything else that... he asked about me?"

"Your health and your rehab progress. I filled him in about them," Calix adjusted his position to lean properly against the backrest, still crossing his long leg onto the other, "He asked to send his regards to you."

"Oh... okay."

Leslie had nothing more to ask about Rowan. For sure, she couldn’t view Rowan and Bianca as her new parents yet. It was not the same with Irene who easily won her heart.

Charlene’s relationship with Rowan and Bianca was practically non-existent. Leslie thought that a replacement like her wouldn’t have any attachment toward such parents either.

After a fleeting silence, Leslie said, "Now that both of our parents... have known about me... the family meal is really happening, en?"

"Yes. The family meal will happen soon," Calix arched one of his brows, throwing a teasing look at Leslie, "It’s a shame that my parents can’t be here though."

Calix revealed Leslie’s emerging from her coma to Andrian and Harper before he did the same to Rowan. As predicted, the news surprised his parents. None of them saw it coming.

Calix did that two days ago through a video call. Because he contacted his parents when he was at home, Leslie got to show her face to them for a moment.

Harper and Andrian were more than delighted. The latter had to calm his excited wife when she started asking questions from Leslie, making the young lady speechless.

All in all, Leslie’s first time greeting Calix’s parents went smoothly. The older spouses playfully reminded their son to keep taking care of his wife lest he would receive their ire.

"I’m nervous now..." Leslie shuddered, slightly shaking her head. Keeping her eyes on Calix, she said, "Thankfully, it’s just a small... family meal..."

Leslie didn’t think she could keep her composure if other people aside from Rowan, Bianca, Irene and Calix’s immediate family were present. She was not ready to meet the Xu family’s relatives, let alone Old Madam Li, Geoffrey and his family.

"Everything will be fine," Calix softened his smile, perceiving the traces of uneasiness in Leslie’s eyes, "We won’t stay the night there. Grandma knows that we have a plan the very next day."

Calix’s last sentence perked Leslie’s up. Her countenance brightened with just the mention of their plan this weekend.

"Yeah... visiting the orphanage..."

Reuniting with her Calliope.

Calix’s gaze on Leslie mellowed as he noticed the slight tint of joy beaming on her face. She always cheered up whenever he mentioned their visit to the orphanage.

If possible, Calix wished to know about Leslie’s pursuit of looking for Calliope – their daughter.

Without a doubt, her search was hard without anyone’s support. She needed to hide from Old Madam Li’s eyes most probably.

That time would come, Calix comforted himself. He could only hope that Leslie’s wrath and disappointment for going behind her back wouldn’t be too harsh.

Calix prepared himself to receive Leslie’s hatred once he came clean but, the thought of having a shattered relationship with her saddened him.

They might not have gotten married out of love and their relationship might seem unconventional, but he genuinely enjoyed their companionship.

Inwardly exhaling a sigh, Calix told himself not to be too discouraged. He would do his best when the time finally came.

"I’ll go upstairs. I wanna change out of this suit," standing up from the couch, Calix grabbed the suit jacket with one hand, "Wait for me here, en?"

"Okay... Take a bath if you want..." Leslie grinned. She gestured at the TV with a slight tilt of her chin, "I’ll watch the news... while waiting for you..."

"Hehe, that’s good."

Spinning on his heels, Calix rushed to his bedroom. He planned to have a relaxing bath after dinner instead of washing himself now. Doing so would get him to dine with Leslie as soon as he went downstairs.

27th May was closely approaching.
