Chapter 201: The World of the Riches Are Full of Marvels

Curling up her lips, Leslie silently watched the sun descending to the horizon. The streaks of violet, amber and ruby colored the vast canvas of the sky. Their brilliance glimmered on the lake, leaving sparkles on the small ripples.

Leslie headed out of the mansion just before sunset, wanting to go to the lakeside. Mrs. Su was nearby to keep an eye on her. The private nurse waited under the tree, giving some space to the former.

|Leslie, the sky is so pretty ah. Do you think Poppy is looking at it too?|

Mimo’s question earned a chuckle from Leslie. Moving her eyes away from the setting sun, she looked at the crochet fox toy on her lap. Its beady eyes were focused on the sky.

"I’m sure she is..."

The closer the date of her visit to the orphanage, the more excited Leslie was. She kept looking at the calendar in her bedroom, to the pink circle she marked on the date.

27th May.

On Calix’s birthday, she would get to meet her daughter again.

On the day he was born, she would be the one to receive a gift instead of him.

From the beginning, Calix had been a great help to Leslie. The fact was undeniable.

More often than not, Leslie felt bad for taking more than how much she could give back. Yet, Calix had never condemned her for it. Every assistance he lent came without any price.

’I don’t know how I can pay him back.’

Leslie recalled what Calix told her a few days ago. He briefed her about their journey to Frostwich Town where the orphanage was. She eagerly listened to him.

"We’ll go there with my private jet. We can take a helicopter but, you won’t be comfortable sitting in it for an hour. We might land at the airport around eight. If it’s necessary, we’ll stay overnight in that city."

Leslie was baffled hearing the involvement of a private jet and helicopter in the conversation. She simply thought they would go there by car.

Three hours of a car ride was nothing to Leslie but, it seemed like Calix wanted to shorten the traveling time. They would reach Bridgeland City in less than an hour through the flight.

Really, the world of the riches was full of marvels.

Once they reached the orphanage...

"I wonder how will I... approach Poppy," speaking in a low tone, Leslie lightly caressed Mimo’s head, "Now, aren’t I... just a stranger to her?"

Some kind of fear sprouted in the midst of Leslie’s happiness. After such a long wait, she could finally be reunited with her treasure – her daughter.

But, would Calliope keep a huge distance just because they were strangers right now?

Leslie was afraid of Calliope’s rejection if she didn’t approach her daughter with caution. Scaring the little one away was never in her plan.

How she wished to be closer to her daughter—much much more—than in their previous life.

|Leslie, have you forgotten what I’ve told you before? Poppy might not remember or recognize who you are but, she’ll have a natural affinity with you. Cheer up, Leslie. Everything will be well.|

Mimo nuzzled its round head against Leslie’s stomach, earning a chuckle from her.

"Hehe, you’re right... How could I forget it?"

Leslie and Mimo stayed in the backyard until the last sunlight vanished behind the horizon. Its reflection on the lake bid a silent farewell, allowing the moon to grace the sky.

"Mrs. Xu, should we get inside now?" asked Mrs. Su once she stood by the wheelchair, coming from the tree behind, "The air is getting colder."

Peeling her eyes away from the horizon where the sun disappeared, Leslie nodded to what Mrs. Su had just said. She told the private nurse not to push her wheelchair, planning to move it using the controller knob.

’He hasn’t returned. Is he busier today?’

The thought crossed Leslie’s mind once she entered the mansion. Mrs. Su assisted her in changing to the indoor wheelchair. Both of them headed to the lounge on the first floor.

Calix usually arrived home before sunset but, Leslie hadn’t heard even his voice. She simply assumed he might still be preoccupied with his work. Perhaps, something urgent abruptly came up.

"Mrs. Leslie."

Listening to the familiar voice of Aunt Wendy’s, Leslie shifted her eyes from the wall clock to the entrance of the lounge. The housekeeper was still with an apron covering the front of her clothes.

After Calix and Leslie returned from visiting Old Madam Xu last weekend, the former proposed having Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond change how they addressed her.

"How about making my family call you Leslie, not just Grandma? Aunt Wendy and Uncle Raymond too."

The suggestion delighted Leslie. Without thinking much, she swiftly agreed. That was her actual plan but, she hadn’t told Calix yet.

Turned out that CEO Xu took the initiative to ask her.

Pulling herself out of the short trance, Leslie responded to the middle-aged woman, "Yes, Aunt Wendy... is it about dinner?"

"Yes," nodding once, Aunt Wendy walked closer to Leslie. Her eyes remained on the young woman’s face, "Mr. Calix called. He’s already on his way home but, he said you may dine first if you’re hungry."

A chuckle of helplessness slipped out of Leslie’s lips. She didn’t think that Calix would leave such a message to Aunt Wendy.

If he said he was heading home now, didn’t it mean he would arrive any time?

Well, perhaps he got stuck in a traffic jam or something.

"I’m not hungry much... I’ll wait for him to... return..."

Aunt Wendy inquired, suggesting something else, "Do you want to have something light first? Mr. Calix might arrive later than usual."

"I’m fine..." Leslie shook her head, looking at Mrs. Su next, "Aunt Wendy, you should have dinner... with Mrs. Su first... I wanna watch the news... for now..."

"Understand, Mrs. Leslie," Aunt Wendy shifted her smile to Mrs. Su. She was already used to sharing the dining table with the private nurses, "Come, Aubrey. I’ve made your favorite cashew chicken."

"That sounds delicious," Mrs. Su laughed softly, happy to hear that. She looked at Leslie, "Then, I’ll have my meal first. Please call me if you need anything, Mrs. Xu."

"Don’t mind about me... Enjoy your dinner, Mrs. Su..."

Leslie smilingly watched the two older ladies walk out of the lounge. Mrs. Su had already switched on the TV for her. An anchor was presenting news on the screen.

"Oh? It’s about... Xu International?"

Leslie’s interest was piqued once she read the headline displayed at the bottom. The anchor was narrating news related to a subsidiary of Xu International.

The TV broadcast played a video next, showing Calix shaking hands with the head of the subsidiary. Leslie recalled seeing him in that powder blue suit yesterday.

"Are his fangirls... watching this?"

Chuckling to herself, Leslie couldn’t help but picture the long line of Calix’s admirers. She did a few searches about CEO Xu on the Internet before.

Aside from coming across articles praising Calix’s business acumen and showing off his accomplishments, Leslie also found several mentioning his non-existent love life.

Of course, Xander topped the list as the number one of the most eligible bachelor in Silvercrest City.

But... was the claim true?

What if he actually had a lover before?

Somehow, Leslie was interested to know about CEO Xu’s love life.
