Chapter 160: You Can Say I’m Close to Being Omnipotent
"How about we go out tomorrow night?"
Calix’s sudden question caught Leslie off guard. Withdrawing her eyes from the bowl of pumpkin soup sitting on the kitchen island, she blankly stared at him sitting next to her.
"Going outside... tomorrow night?" Leslie repeated Calix’s question, her tone imbued with confusion, "What for?"
From the moment Leslie regained consciousness, Calix had only brought her to the spacious yard of the manor. She also didn’t request him to bring her anywhere else after considering her current state.
Calix brought the spoon close to Leslie’s mouth, letting her taste the creamy pumpkin soup. His reasoning followed shortly.
"Aren’t you bored just strolling in the backyard? If you don’t want to visit any place, going for a short drive is good too."
Calix didn’t mind wandering in the backyard with Leslie every night. The leisurely activity ought to help her destress after staying inside the manor all day.
Aside from going to the hospital for her routine checkups, Leslie was still reluctant to step outside when it was daytime.
After swallowing the soup, Leslie asked, "That... sounds good, but... aren’t you busy? Have you... finished your work?"
Leslie was intrigued to follow Calix’s suggestion but, she recalled how he said he still had impending tasks to do this weekend. Gathering with Xander and Davin tonight meant he had less time for himself.
A chuckle slipped out of Calix’s mouth. Raising both brows, his lips curved into his signature smirk. Mischief glinted in his eyes.
"Are you still worried about your capable husband’s efficiency?"
Leslie grinned, purposely shrugging, "CEO Xu... a human... won’t ever be... omnipotent..."
"Well, you can say I’m close to being omnipotent," Calix answered casually. He scooped another spoonful of the pumpkin soup, "You don’t have to worry about my work ah. I only have a few left. So, what do you say?"
"Okay... Let’s go for... a drive..."
Calix pretended to sigh out of relief once he heard Leslie agreeing to his suggestion. He fed her the soup again.
"The weather might stay good tomorrow night. Then, it’s decided. We’ll go out after dinner."
"Okay..."
Anticipation sparkled in Leslie’s eyes, earning helpless laughter from Calix. He was glad to see that she actually looked forward to tomorrow’s night out.
Leslie couldn’t finish the entire bowl of pumpkin soup, leading Calix to do it on her behalf. Instead of bringing her back to her bedroom, he pushed her wheelchair to the lounge on the second floor.
"I’ll go and get my work. Want me to get you anything?" asked Calix before leaving the lounge. He had already moved Leslie to the couch.
"My phone... please bring it... to me... I placed it on... the bedside table..."
"Got it."
While Calix continued working on his task, Leslie wanted to resume listening to the audiobook. She didn’t feel like napping for the time being.
’I’ll ask Mrs. Su to help me with light exercises.’
The physical and occupational therapist Ms. Chen told Leslie that she could do a few exercises by herself. But, it would be better if there was someone to oversee her.
Leslie didn’t want to sit around being idle until the next rehab session. She should utilize everything she could to improve her condition.
That afternoon, Leslie and Calix stayed in the lounge for quite some time. While she enjoyed listening to the audiobook, he was busy with his work.
Nevertheless, CEO Xu appeared extra charming when he was deeply focused on his job. Leslie was certain his fangirls would swoon more if they witnessed this scene.
’What if I take his pictures and sell them to his fans? I might even get to auction some.’
Leslie was amused by her own thoughts. Calix would task for his commission if she ever told him that.
The husband and wife had a late lunch together before they parted ways to their respective bedrooms. Leslie asked Mrs. Su to help with her exercise while Calix continued with his work.
Because Leslie was still full from lunch, she told Calix she didn’t want dinner yet.
"You should go... to your friends now... I’ll ask Mrs. An... or Aunt Wendy if I... get hungry later..."
Agreeing with Leslie, Calix changed his plan. He reminded Mrs. An who had just arrived to assist Leslie in having dinner when he was away.
"I’ll just be gone for a moment. Go to bed if you’re sleepy," said Calix to Leslie before stepping outside. She simply smiled at him.
Thus, Calix dragged himself to Viluxs after his previous successful attempt dodging it last month. Even though Leslie said she was fine about Xander and Daving knowing about her current state, he didn’t feel good allowing his friends to come to the manor.
Now, the place was not just his residence but, also hers.
At a quarter to seven, Calix reached Viluxs. He was fifteen minutes early from the promised time.
"Welcome, Second Young Master Xu. First Young Master Qin and Second Young Master Huo are awaiting your arrival."
Calix was greeted by the manager of Viluxs, Mr. Shao. The latter welcomed him through the private hallway exclusively used by Xander and his close friends.
"Hello, Mr. Shao. I’ll head to them myself," Calix walked ahead of the middle-aged man, knowing where should he go from there, "You should return to your post."
Xander usually held the gathering in his private room in this clubhouse. They only stepped outside if they wanted to use other entertainment offered such as the swimming pool.
"It’s my job to escort you there, Young Master Xu," replied Mr. Shao with a polite smile, "Young Master Qin has been waiting to meet you here. I also haven’t seen you for more than a month."
"Well, I can’t come here often now that I’m married," exclaimed Calix proudly, "Haven’t you heard of me getting married last month?"
"It’s indeed good news. Congratulations on your marriage, Young Master Xu," Mr. Shao’s countenance softened before a chuckle escaped his lips, "Seems like the young ladies have lost another eligible bachelor."
Calix and Mr. Shao conversed until both of them reached Xander’s exclusive room. The manager immediately left after greeting Xander and Davin.
As told by Xander earlier, Violet was nowhere to be seen. She was busy shooting pictorials for a fashion magazine out of the city.
"Calix! Did you get so busy after your business trip? It’s so hard to see your face," Davin pretended to sigh out of frustration.
"A bit," Calix took off his coat before hanging it on the coat rack. Striding toward the seating area, he glanced at Xander and Davin, "Why are you so eager to meet yours truly? Have you forgotten I’m a married man now?"
Davin scoffed out loud. Even though he had been friends with Calix for almost three decades, sometimes he couldn’t comprehend his friend’s shamelessness.
"I wonder what makes you so busy. Aside from your work, are you busy taking care of your unconscious wife? Don’t you have caretakers for that?"
Xander’s husky voice echoed for the first time Calix stepped inside the room. Propping one elbow on the armrest, he lazily rested one side of his face on the back of his hand.
"Xander’s right," Davin shared the same view as his friend, "Your wife is still in a coma. You don’t have to worry about her running away from your manor."
Calix blinked, grinning and then dropped the bomb of a sudden.
"Who told you my wife’s still in a coma? She has woken up ah."
Calix’s statement froze Xander and Davin.
