Aunt Wendy was inside the kitchen when Calix and Leslie appeared. The middle-aged woman smilingly greeted the husband and wife. She had just finished washing the pots and pans.
"Oh~ Mrs. Charlene, your hairstyle suits you. Did Mr. Calix do it for you?
Aunt Wendy chuckled. She couldn’t help praising how Leslie looked right now. The latter usually had her hair down or into a simple bun.
Leslie grinned while nodding once, her eyes sparkling with delight. Behind her, Calix kept smirking.
"Yes, he did... Aunt Wendy... thank you..."
Understanding that she was now playing the role of Charlene Li, Leslie didn’t ask Aunt Wendy to call her by her real name. Most probably, other people would call her Charlene too.
But, Leslie didn’t correct Calix at all. He would be the only one to continue addressing her as Leslie.
At least, there was someone who would still call her by her real name even though he didn’t know the genuine reason behind it.
"Are you two hungry?" Aunt Wendy shifted her eyes from Calix to Leslie, "Mrs. Charlene, I made some chicken soup for you. You can eat it with the plain rice porridge. I’ve made some strawberry yogurt pudding too. It’ll be good for your throat."
"Aunt Wendy, thanks for the hard work," Calix pushed Leslie to the kitchen island while still talking to the housekeeper, "We’ll have our lunch a bit later. I wanna make pumpkin soup for my wife."
"That sounds delicious," Aunt Wendy clapped her hands once, happy to see the husband and wife together, "Then, I won’t serve anything yet. Feel free to call me once you want lunch."
"It’s fine. I can reheat the dishes myself," Calix thanked Aunt Wendy, "You should go and rest, Aunt Wendy. How about having an early lunch with Uncle Raymond?"
"I’ll go and ask Mrs. Su," Aunt Wendy pointed to the ceiling, bringing up the caretaker’s name, "I offered her some tea and snacks just now. Taking care of someone is hard work. I better stuff her with food so she can focus on Mrs. Charlene well."
"That’s kind of... you, Aunt Wendy..." Leslie smiled at the housekeeper who she had grown fond of, "Enjoy your... break..."
"Call this old lady if you need anything," Aunt Wendy patted her chest, wiggling her brows at Leslie, "Mrs. Charlene, ask Mr. Calix to make any food you want. He’s a great cook."
"Well, do you hear that?" Calix shrugged, his smirk deepened as mischief glinted in his eyes, "Aunt Wendy can testify to my cooking skills. You should feel honored to have such a great husband."
Leslie refrained from rolling her eyes while Aunt Wendy burst out laughing. Calix continued grinning, throwing a teasing look at the former.
"Then, I’ll go now. Have fun, Mr. Calix and Mrs. Charlene."
Right after Aunt Wendy left, Calix grabbed the apron he often used. Leslie quietly watched him placing a pumpkin, celery and onions on the kitchen island.
"Leslie, don’t you think you’re watching the live version of a cooking show?" said Calix when he started peeling the pumpkin skin using a huge knife, "What should I name my show?"
Calix’s chatty mouth didn’t stop talking, earning laughter from Leslie. Curling up her lips, she quietly replied to him, "How about... Cooking with... the Chatterbox... CEO Xu?"
"W-what? Hey! That doesn’t sound glamorous at all!"
Calix’s complaints tickled Leslie’s heart. Unfortunately, she couldn’t laugh much even if she wanted to.
"It’s okay... As long as... you’re handsome... people will watch..."
Calix grimaced. Throwing a disgruntled look at Leslie, he mumbled, "Just say that you want to diss me ah. You don’t like it when I talk too much, en?"
Leslie shrugged, purposely smirking at the aggrieved CEO Xu.
Calix continued preparing for the ingredients. He didn’t stop talking even when Leslie couldn’t really reply to him. He alone was enough to keep the kitchen lively.
Ring! Ring!
Calix’s private phone suddenly rang when he was stirring the pumpkin soup inside the pot. Frowning, he took out the phone from the pocket of his long pants.
"Urgh..."
Seeing how Calix openly winced, Leslie wondered who was the caller. He put the lid on the pot before connecting the line.
"Hey, do you know what day is today? It’s Saturday the weekend."
Leslie raised her brows as she faintly heard the caller’s voice. It was a man.
Was it Edward? But, the voice sounded different from the former’s.
"W-what?" Calix was exasperated. The caller’s words seemed to annoy him, "Now that your girlfriend is busy, you’re dragging me and Davin to entertain you? Heck, no! I just want to stay home."
’Oh... it’s Xander.’
Leslie hadn’t heard about the male lead in a few weeks already, not that she cared about him. From how Calix sounded, it seemed Xander wanted them to have a small gathering.
Why didn’t the male lead go looking for the female lead? Even if she went far, shouldn’t he have the ability to appear right in front of her eyes no matter where she went?
’I haven’t gotten any new vision aside from the one at the hotel.’
Leslie recalled the night Violet almost got framed last month[1]. If she didn’t receive the vision, the latter might suffer as depicted in the original storyline.
Not only Violet would be traumatized by the malicious plot but, Xander also would lock her up inside his room for a week. Without a doubt, the overbearing male lead would unleash another level of his possessiveness.
Sigh...
"Yeah, yeah... I’ll go there tonight. Don’t you dare come here! You’re disturbing my marital peace ah. Bye!"
Blinking, Leslie returned to reality. She watched Calix grumbling while placing the phone on the kitchen island.
"Are you... going out tonight?"
Leslie’s question was replied with a reluctant nod from Calix, "Xander threatened to come here if I don’t show up tonight. I’ll be sure to return early."
Calix’s reply amused Leslie. Chuckling, she responded, "Just have fun... with your friends... Well, if you want... to tell them about... my condition now... you can..."
If Xander and Davin really stepped foot here, they might learn about Leslie’s current state. She roughly guessed that Calix agreed because he wanted to avoid that.
Even though Leslie could simply hide in the bedroom, anything might happen. Calix was just being careful even though Xander and Davin were his best friends.
Calix was dumbfounded. He blankly stared at Leslie before asking, "Are you sure? You don’t want anyone else to know yet, right?"
"I’m sure..." Leslie nodded once, "They are your... friend... You believe them... don’t you?"
Nothing would happen with Xander and Davin knowing about their best friend’s comatose wife regaining consciousness. The ones Leslie wanted to avoid the most were Old Madam Li and Geoffrey’s family.
"Then... okay," Calix let out a helpless sigh, his expression mellowing, "I’ll head to Xander’s clubhouse after we have dinner. But, don’t worry. I’ll return before midnight."
"You should have... fun..." Leslie softened her smile, "You haven’t... met them... recently, en?"
"Well, yes..." Calix laughed awkwardly. He focused back on the pot of pumpkin soup, "I think I’ll just listen to Xander’s complicated love life tho."
Leslie grinned, wondering what the male lead wanted to say to CEO Xu.
Did the male lead and female lead encounter any misunderstanding again?
