Chapter 128: The Charming and Quaint District

On Leslie and Calix’s second day in Rome—a Saturday morning—the latter needed to head out as early as eight. He was required to meet Mr. Nucci at his company less than an hour away.

CEO Xu was busy even though it was the weekend.

To save time, Mr. Morino and Mr. Bernadi would come with a helicopter. It would be Calix’s first mode of transportation today. Mr. Tan and Mr. Hao would tag along.

When Leslie heard it for the first time, her jaw almost dropped to the floor. She paused from eating her breakfast prepared by Mrs. Rossi.

"In a helicopter? Then, you’ll continue traveling with it if the place is far?" asked Leslie, still in disbelief. Her mind began recalling the scenes she watched in dramas before.

Really... the more she lived with CEO Xu, the more surprises she faced.

"Why? Wanna follow me?" Calix raised his brows, a smirk hanging on his lips, "Finish your breakfast quickly. They’ll arrive soon."

"No, thanks," shaking her head, Leslie swiftly rejected Calix’s offer, "I wanna stroll around the neighborhood. You go and earn money for me. Don’t forget you’ll need to pay for the food I wanna try soon."

Calix scoffed, giving Leslie a side-eye. She returned it with a cheeky smile before continued eating her breakfast.

As arranged by them yesterday, Leslie planned to spend her day wandering around the neighborhood. Calix said he would try to return before dinner.

Leslie wore another dress Calix purchased for her from Lavender Thread. She plaited her long hair into a single braid before putting on the crochet hairband.

"Eh? Are they here already?" Leslie raised her brows once she caught the loud echo of a distinct thumping from the outside, "Like something is roaring."

Calix was amused by Leslie’s choice of words. Throwing his gaze in a direction, he replied, "Yes, they are here. Wanna see? Finish your breakfast."

"Sure!"

Leslie quickly finished her last bite of breakfast. Calix insisted she eat even though she was not that hungry yet. If she starved when he hadn’t returned to the villa, it would be bad.

Calix purposely asked Mrs. Rossi to serve a few dishes. He made an excuse, saying he was prone to eat heavily during breakfast. The housekeeper simply followed the man’s requests.

Mrs. Rossi ended up serving baked eggs with sausages, tiramisu crepes and mascarpone mushroom frittata. Every dish was very delicious! Leslie willingly finished everything.

"All done," Leslie put down her coffee cup, "Let’s go."

Smiling in helplessness, Calix gestured for Leslie to follow him. The roar of the rotating blades had yet to fade as the helicopter waited for the former to appear.

Calix and Leslie saw Mr. Hao and Mr. Tan walking on the ground from a distance. Behind them, Mr. Morino and Mr. Bernadi climbed down the huge helicopter.

"CEO Xu, good morning," Mr. Hao and Mr. Tan greeted Calix at the same time.

"How’s your hotel?" Calix raised his brows, "Still in a jetlag?"

"We’ll manage," replied Mr. Tan with a helpless grin.

Mr. Morino and Mr. Bernadi reached them. They greeted Calix.

"Good morning, Mr. Xu. We hope you had a pleasant sleep last night. Have you eaten?"

Calix returned their polite greeting, "Morning. I did sleep well. Mrs. Rossi prepared a lavish feast for me. Should we go now? I don’t want to make Mr. Nucci wait."

"He’s already on his way there. Shall we?"

Calix nodded. Glancing at Leslie, he winked before walking ahead of the four men. He put one hand in the back, awkwardly waving at her in that position.

Chuckling, Leslie shouted, "Have a good day! Earn big money for me!"

Calix snickered, almost laughing out loud in front of his assistants, Mr. Bernadi and Mr. Morino. If only he could reply to her back, he would.

Leslie continued standing there, watching Calix climb into the helicopter. He sat next to the window facing her, allowing her to see him clearly.

"Wow, so fancy," Leslie perked up, enjoying the new experience of witnessing a private helicopter standing in front of her, "I wonder when I can try riding it."

Calix’s offer to follow him, thus riding the helicopter was very tempting. However, Leslie was adamant about her choice of wandering around the neighborhood despite facing several inconveniences.

Soon, the helicopter began ascending to the sky, its blades rotating. Once again, dust and debris flew everywhere while the leaves and tips of grass lurched madly caused by the harsh gusts of the wind.

Calix threw his gaze out of the windows, staring at Leslie who started waving both hands at him. The look of her cheery self deepened his smile.

Raising one hand, Calix tapped on the window with one finger. Leslie’s figure slowly shrank in his line of sight.

’See you tonight.’

Calix could only hope that his schedule wouldn’t change but, everything depended on the situation. After all, his main intention of coming here was to work.

"Hurm, he’s gone now," murmured Leslie as the helicopter gradually faded in the sky, "It’s still so early but, he’s working hard already."

Leslie didn’t ask anything about the business trip. She simply assumed it was for something important to Xu International. If not, Calix might already send someone else to represent him here.

"Well, it’s time for me to go outside~"

Humming to a tune, Leslie hovered in the air, heading to the closed gate of the private villa. Even though she could choose to pass through the concrete gate from every direction, she wanted to start from there.

"Where should I go first?"

Once Leslie was out of the villa compound, she paused. Looking at her right and left, she saw cars and scooters speeding down the main road while cyclists rode on the side. The passersby occupied the cobblestone sidewalk.

"Let’s go there."

Coming to a decision, Leslie floated to the left side of the gate. Calix told her that she could find various kinds of stores and a market square if she ventured there. Mrs. Rossi told him about it.

As Leslie hovered in the air, she quietly took in the charming and quaint district. This place was quite far from any bustling tourist attractions, possessing its own charm.

"If only I could understand what they’re saying," sighed Leslie with a helpless smile.

Locals went in and out of the bakeries and cafes, some of them were tucked in the corners.

Most tables placed in the outdoor seating were occupied as they enjoyed their breakfast on a weekend morning. Their lively chatter reverberated, harmonizing with the other echoes.

"Mimo, I have something to ask."

Leslie was reminded of the crochet fox toy. As usual, Mimo answered her in an instant as if there were no thousands of miles separating them.

Yes, Leslie! Oh! Are you having fun over there?

Leslie let out a chuckle, amused by Mimo’s energetic tone.

"Well, I wonder if I can understand what they’re saying. Do you have any translating ability?"

Even though Leslie couldn’t communicate with the locals, she yearned to understand their conversations.

Oh... sorry, Leslie. I can’t do that.

Mimo’s vibrant voice suddenly sounded so dejected, earning more laughter from Leslie.

"Hehe, it’s fine. I’m just trying. By the way, won’t you appear here? I’m wandering around the neighborhood."

Oh! Oh! I want! I’ll only join you for a short time though.

"It’s okay. Come."

Pop!

In a blink of an eye, Mimo materialized in front of Leslie.

Leslie! I’m here!

"Hehe, you’re here ah!"

Leslie grabbed Mimo from the air, bringing the toy to her embrace.
