Chapter 127: Her House Sitting Fee From Him

"Hurm... is that a cobweb? Or, a part of the painting?"

Murmuring to herself, Leslie kept staring at the painted ceiling. She lay upside-down on the cushion, her legs dangling from the backrest. Her long hair spilled on the carpeted floor.

Leslie was hooked on the drama but, watching it continuously for almost three hours disturbed her attention. Unable to change to a new TV show, she looked around the lounge.

"Sigh... Wouldn’t it be better if I could go outside already?" whispered Leslie, her mind conjuring the beautiful images of Rome she saw in documentaries and books, "But, will I meet any of the Roman soldier ghosts? Or the gladiators?"

Leslie recalled one of the foreign romance books she read before.

The female lead loved going for a swim in a pool, rumored to be a favorite spot of Roman soldiers. She fantasized about meeting the handsome olive-skinned ghosts with curved noses.

"Nah, I’ll bring trouble to myself," shaking her head, Leslie shuddered, "What if they spirit me away?"

Amused by her own thoughts, Leslie didn’t notice a particular someone walking into the lounge. That person halted his steps once his eyes caught her posture.

"Tsk tsk tsk, what are you doing? Looking for ants on the ceiling?"

Leslie withdrew her eyes from the ceiling. Without moving her position, she stared at Calix who had just returned. From her angle, he appeared as if he stood upside-down.

"Cobwebs," Leslie replied with a shrug, pointing to one spot on the ceiling, "I wonder if those are cobwebs or paintings?"

Narrowing his gaze, Calix exhaled a sigh out of helplessness. Nonetheless, he still tilted his head up, trying to look for whatever Leslie was scrutinizing.

"Hurm... not sure. As long as it’s not annoying bugs, we’re good."

Leslie rolled her head before retrieving her legs from the backrest. She moved to sit properly on the couch, her eyes drifting to Calix.

"Did you enjoy dinner? I thought you’d return near midnight."

Calix left the private villa around seven. The clock was pointing to ten-twenty now. In Leslie’s opinion, it was still early. She genuinely assumed that he would have a long talk with the Italian businessman.

"I’ll meet Mr. Nucci again tomorrow. Don’t you want this?"

Raising his left hand, Calix slightly dangled a yellow-colored paper bag. Leslie didn’t notice its existence earlier.

"...want what? What’s that?"

"Chocolate and candies," Calix plopped himself down on the seat next to Leslie, placing the paper bag between them, "House-sitting fee, take them."

Leslie scoffed before her lips broke into a grin. Quickly grabbing the paper bag, she took out each chocolate box and candy jar. The boxes were brown while the jar was tied with brown-yellow ribbons.

"Wow~ Where did you get these?" Leslie’s eyes sparkled in delight, unable to take her gaze off the chocolate and candies, "Which flavor is this? How about this one? Is this hazelnut chocolate? Oh? You bought toffee too?"

Snickering, Calix took one box of the chocolate. One of his index fingers traced the side of the brown box before he lifted its lid, revealing rows of chocolate there.

"Coconut almond, pecan caramel, Earl Grey chocolate, raspberry dark chocolate..."

Lips parting, Leslie couldn’t believe there were so many flavors of chocolate available!

The most extravagant she had tried before was hazelnut and almond ones, including strawberry-coated chocolate!

Wow... how much did each box cost?

Calix was unaware of Leslie’s train of thought. He passed the chocolate box back to her, "Try anything you like. Aren’t you quite a foodie?"

Calix was absolutely certain that Leslie wouldn’t say no to any of this chocolate and candy.

"Hehe, thank you!"

Leslie put down the other boxes on the coffee table opposite the couch before taking her sweet time picking the chocolate. Each of them was molded in different shapes.

"Let me try this one."

Leslie picked a chocolate in a round shape with a swirl pattern. After taking a bite, she savored the burst of flavors spreading in her mouth. Stars twinkling in her eyes, expressing her inner joy.

Calix pretended to sigh at the sight of Leslie’s beaming countenance. He was actually amused by how easily good food grabbed her attention.

"Is it that good? Which chocolate is that?"

"I taste caramel," Leslie turned to look at Calix, laughing at herself, "And something like coconut."

"That’s toasted coconut caramel, I guess," Calix recalled his conversation with the shopkeeper, "Using dark chocolate."

"Yup! Oh, don’t you want some?" Leslie held the box, showing it to Calix, "How was your dinner? Did you guys only talk about business?"

"Some stuff about business," Calix reached for one of the chocolates in the shape of a paper fan, "Mr. Nucci and his wife heard about our marriage. They asked about you."

"Oh?" Leslie blinked, staring at Calix in confusion, "Where did they hear that?"

"Perhaps from our mutual partners," Calix shrugged, not paying much attention to it. Savoring the taste of the chocolate, he raised his brows, "This is good too. Coffee-flavored chocolate."

Leslie finished the one in her mouth before she picked another chocolate. Her eyes drifted to the candy jars, wondering which one should she open first.

"Oh? What type of chocolate is this?" Leslie stared at the bitten chocolate nestled between her index and thumb, "It’s chewy."

"En? Let me see," Calix moved his eyes from the TV to the chocolate, "How does it taste?"

"Like almond. It’s coated with dark chocolate. Wanna try?"

Calix blinked. He was caught in a momentary pause.

This... did she want to share the chocolate she already bit with him?

W-well, it’s not like he disliked it. He was just a little shocked ah. After all, they had never shared food or drinks before.

"Y-yes, let me try it."

Leslie tilted her head, wondering why suddenly Calix looked flustered. Without thinking, she shoved the chocolate into the man’s mouth. Her fingertips grazed his lips, leaving a faint warm sensation.

"..."

Leslie flinched for a second before calmly retrieving her right hand, acting as if nothing unusual happened.

’Get a grip, Leslie. This is a grown-up man ah. Not Poppy.’

Being a mother to a very young child, Leslie was accustomed to feeding Calliope. She also tended to ask her daughter if the latter sounded curious about what she was eating.

"What’s flavor is that?" Leslie schooled her expression to look as usual, "Something like almond fudge?"

"Quite close. It’s marzipan coated with chocolate," replied Calix, his voice sounding a bit muted, "It’s made from almond if I’m not mistaken."

"Oh... haha, I haven’t tasted it before," Leslie laughed awkwardly.

Calix was confused, his brows slightly furrowing.

Marzipan was easily accessible in many bakeries, especially the high-end ones. Even though Leslie hadn’t tasted it before, shouldn’t she still know about it?

"Let’s get more once I bring you out later," Calix decided against asking Leslie. He simply brought up his plan to show her around the city, "I’ll be less busy on the fourth day."

"Okay~"

Leslie put the lid on the chocolate box. After putting it down on the coffee table, she reached out for a glass jar of candies.

While Leslie was choosing which candy to try first, she didn’t notice how weirdly Calix averted his eyes from her, his cheeks flushing red.
