Chapter 118: On a Shopping Spree Without Looking at the Price Tags
After a long and fiery battle with Calix, Leslie emerged victoriously. Despite winning the fight, she couldn’t help but think that she was still the loser instead of him.
"...ten new outfits are too much ah. Can’t I just pick three?" asked an exhausted Leslie after coming out of the changing booth, wearing a light yellow spring dress.
Leslie had lost count of the number of clothes she was pushed to try by Calix. Even though she didn’t wear every single clothes hanging on the racks, the amount was still huge.
Initially, Calix told Leslie she had to choose at least fifty clothes among the ones brought in by Mrs. Wei. Having a headache, she tried to lower the number.
After several times haggling with Calix, Leslie managed to reduce the number from fifty to ten. CEO Xu suddenly became domineering, urging her to pick not only the blouses, skirts and pants but, the matching accessories as well.
Calix sat on the couch opposite the booth, crossing his long legs. Scoffing, he sharpened his eyes.
"I’ll tell Mrs. Wei to ring everything up."
Leslie winced. Irritated by him, she complained, "CEO Xu, don’t shove your wealth to my face ah. A soul like me doesn’t need many clothes."
"You can wear them frequently once you wake up," Calix shrugged, tilting his head, "For sure, wear them during our trip. Indulge yourself in the vacation, won’t you?"
In the seven days of the trip, Calix would only be busy in the first four days. He planned to finish his business before night came just so he could take Leslie sightseeing. For the last three days, his schedule wouldn’t be so packed.
"...won’t the staff question why you bring women’s clothes there?" Leslie came up with another excuse, "Calix, what if people think you’re seeing a mistress when your new wife is still in a coma?"
Calix gave Leslie a deadpan look before his lips curled into a smirk. He already anticipated these kinds of excuses coming from her.
"That’s easy to solve. We’ll just leave everything at home. I’ll take you shopping like this again over there. People will think I’m a good husband who always thinks of his wife back home."
"..."
Rolling her eyes, Leslie raised her curled fingers out of frustration. She couldn’t win against CEO Xu once he decided to be domineering.
"Alright, ten clothes. I don’t want accessories. No shawls, shoes or anything else," Leslie squinted her eyes, wondering whether she should kick Calix’s legs or smack his back.
Calix grinned mischievously, "Deal, Mrs. Xu."
Leslie exhaled a sigh, feeling that her hunger intensified after trying on clothes many times. She changed back to her dress before Calix called for Mrs. Wei.
"CEO Xu, have you done choosing clothes for your wife?" Mrs. Wei kept her professional smile on. She subtly glanced at the dressing room.
"Ring them up for me. Send them to my address today," Calix pointed to one of the racks where Leslie hung the ten clothes, "It’s a pity. I wanted to buy more but, my wife would only get angry at me."
Leslie clenched her hands, holding back from punching Calix’s arms. Mrs. Wei chuckled hearing what sounded like an adorable complaint a husband had toward his wife.
"CEO Xu, it seems like you have married to a good wife. I’m sure Mrs. Xu just doesn’t want you to spend unnecessarily," Mrs. Wei nodded politely, trying to keep the flattering up.
Calix subtly glanced at the puffing Leslie. Smiling lop-sidely, he added, "Shouldn’t a husband pamper his wife well? Don’t you think so?"
"Certainly. Mrs. Xu is lucky to have a considerate husband like you. CEO Xu, I hope to see you and your wife gracing your presence at our store in the future. You can help her choose her outfits."
Mrs. Wei was buttering up to Calix, hoping to get the man as the store’s client again. Listening to CEO Xu talking reminded Leslie of how penniless she was in her previous life.
The clothes Leslie tried had no price tags. When she asked Calix, he simply shrugged and said there was no need for those.
Sigh... Life of riches was so extravagant. They went on a shopping spree without looking at the price tags.
"Among the ten designs, four are exclusive to only three customers for the whole collection. Mrs. Xu is fortunate to own them. They’re the most sought-after designs for our spring and summer exhibitions."
Leslie flinched. Mrs. Wei’s words made her wonder how much the four clothes would have cost. At the same time, Calix didn’t bat an eyelid.
"That’s great. Inform me whenever you have new exclusive designs. My wife should be one of their owners. Or, I’ll just buy them all for her."
Mrs. Wei glinted with money signs. She gently smiled, "I’ll surely inform you, CEO Xu."
Hearing the end of their conversation made Leslie shudder. She wanted to nag at Calix but, it had to wait until they were alone.
Snickering, Calix understood the meaning behind Leslie’s glare. He had to refrain from laughing out loud lest Mrs. Wei thought he was crazy. Seeing an angry Leslie was quite enjoyable to him.
"I’ll pay for the clothes. Let’s go out."
Calix’s words were actually directed to Leslie. Mrs. Wei nodded before escorting him out of the private dressing room.
The store manager ordered two staff to pack Calix’s purchases into lilac-colored boxes tied with white ribbons. Everything would be couriered to Graceville Manor.
Standing at the cash register, Leslie watched CEO Xu taking a sleek black card out of his slim wallet. She swore she heard ka-ching echoing in her mind repeatedly. A few ladies who seemed to recognize Calix also were looking at him.
"CEO Xu, thank you for your patronage. We’ll deliver your purchases by six," Mrs. Wei presented a small box in the same lilac color to Calix, "This is our token of appreciation for Mrs. Xu."
"Oh, thank you," Calix took the box with one hand. Raising one brow, he said, "I’m sure my wife will love it."
Leslie’s curiosity was piqued. She wondered what kind of gift Calix received after spending tens of thousands in this store.
Really, the perks of being wealthy. They got many discounts and freebies compared to the common people. Perhaps to maintain the connections.
Hey! Someone as wealthy as CEO Xu didn’t need any discounts ah!
"Calix, I’m hungry," Leslie talked to Calix as they headed out of Lavender Thread, "You better bring me to eat now. Unless you want me to turn into a starving ghost."
Calix pressed his lips together, holding back from replying to Leslie. He slipped the small box into the pocket of his jacket.
"Hurm~ What should I eat for late lunch? Chinese? Korean? Hotpot?"
Calix recited the types of cuisines that could be found at Qindom Plaza. He strode toward the eatery section. All restaurants here had private dining rooms, beneficial for them.
Leslie’s eyes sparkled, "Korean! Calix! Let’s eat Korean chicken!"
Calix chuckled listening to Leslie’s enthusiasm. Without looking at Leslie, he murmured, "Korean food, then."
Laughing to herself, Leslie regained her spirit. She almost salivated imagining the crispiness of the deep-fried chicken, glazed with special spicy sauce before its juicy flavor burst in her mouth.
Yummy!
