Chapter 122: Monitoring
Chapter 122: Monitoring
Hours passed until it was late in the evening, and we had to go back to our bedroom to avoid suspicion from anyone. Even if the servants had been replaced with Agent Helios’ people, still, it was best to be careful.
Agent Helios and I brought the Mythos laptop with us, covering it with a privacy filter on our way. We needed to take turns in monitoring what was happening with the spies in case we came across any useful intel. We wore earphones to listen to the conversation so nobody else could hear them until we reached our bedroom. Once inside, we set up everything there, disguising it as if we were just watching some movie. We didn’t even have the time to eat, so we just asked the servants to bring dinner to our room.
Agent Helios took the first six hours of monitoring while taking down notes on any important details such as locations, names, number of people they had, etc, and saving the important clips from the spies’ cameras so we could go back to them when we need them.
There were a total of seven spies—six adults and one child pretending to be Min-Su. We had to monitor all those seven cameras from them and listen to all their conversations. Multi-tasking was one of the most important skills of a Mythos agent, after all. It could have been easier if we divided the task, but we also needed to take some rest while considering a 24 hours long coverage in monitoring for the next two or three days.
And so, as Agent Helios monitored them, I sent the pictures of the black card or "invitation" with secret codes, as they called it, to Mythos Technology Department. I asked them to find out that secret code and make an exact replica of the card. Once we find out the location of that "party" they mentioned, I’m thinking of going in there to see up close whatever was happening there. My guess was that the party could be an auction where they sell the kids as products. Ugh. How truly detestable.
"Thank you for sharing these pictures, Agent Selene," one of the Captains from the Technology Department said on the other line. I had to call them to make sure we were on the same page with the information. "We will make sure to create an exact copy of this one. I’ll let you know once it’s done."
"Thanks," I replied. "And if you can do it fast, please. We need it in a day or two."
"Understood. We will put this in priority."
"Thank you."
After that, I took a shower and slept. I needed to rest and recover my energy so I could deliver those bastards to hell once I met them again.
Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.
Time passed, and soon enough, I woke up from Agent Helios’ nudge.
"Good morning, my dear wife. It’s your turn to monitor now."
"Uhmm... yes," I replied, rubbing my eyes and slowly getting up from bed.
"I’d love to do it for a few more hours but I’m still human. I need to sleep," he grunted, sounding a little tired.
"Oh, so you are a human after all, huh?" I teased him.
"Unfortunately, I am," Agent Helios chuckled.
He was already wearing his sleeping robe, and his hair was a little damp, probably from taking a shower.
"Hm? Did you continue monitoring them while you’re in the shower?" I said, trying to stop myself from laughing.
"Ha-ha. Funny, but yeah. I had to."
"Good thing it’s waterproof."
I checked on the clock to see what time it was, and oh my goodness! It was already dawn! We agreed for him to monitor for six hours only, and then I’ll do the next six. Turned out, he extended it to ten hours! No wonder I was feeling so refreshed.
"Uhm," Agent Helios nodded with his eyes already closed.
He slowly crawled to the bed and laid down.
"You look so tired," I said, patting his head and tucking him to bed. "Go ahead and rest. Thank you for extending your coverage."
He opened his eyes briefly and smiled.
"I’m such a good husband, aren’t I?"
"Yeah, yeah. You are."
"I deserver some reward."
"Hmm... alright, fine. You get a reward."
I then leaned into him and kissed him. He seemed to like it, seeing how he kissed me back despite looking so sleepy. After a few minutes of kissing, I put my finger on his lips, stopping him from kissing any further.
"That’s enough. Go ahead and sleep now."
"Uhm."
"Good night."
"G... night."
I got up from bed, pulled out a robe from the closet to cover myself since the temperature felt cold, then went straight to the desk where the laptop was. He had already connected it to multiple monitors, probably so we could see closer and observe the cameras from a bigger screen—one monitor for each camera. Seeing the videos on each, everyone was mostly asleep, and the desk was so messy, filled with all his notes. He truly worked hard.
Agent Helios’ notes were all around the table—some in notebooks, some in sticky notes, or other pieces of paper. I noticed he also brought a tall whiteboard at the side of the desk, maybe to arrange the notes there, but he didn’t have the time anymore. So, I did that instead. I arranged all the info he got while continuing to monitor the screen.
It took me a whole hour to arrange everything, but it was nice too since I got caught up with the latest updates. And most fortunately, Agent Helios found out the location of the "black party"—something I was just thinking of obtaining earlier before I went to sleep.
"Ahh... such an excellent agent," I blurted to myself in a murmur.
When it comes to work, there was truly nothing I could say against him.
Oh well, since pretty much all the info we needed was already here—on the whiteboard—I guess there wasn’t much left for me to do. I should have taken the first shift of monitoring. Now, I felt so useless.
Ping!
Just when I was thinking that, I suddenly got a notification on my phone. I quickly checked it to see what it was.
"Hi, Ye-Ji’ya!"
It was a message from Yoon-Ah.
