Chapter 65: The Past Love Rivalry...

Acantha leaned to her father, "I want to help those people." She said, which made the duke stiffen.

The duke sighed at what she said and looked at her. "You really are your mother’s daughter," he said as he caressed her face.

"I just wanted to help them; I heard Baron Abellarde was asking for something in return before he let Noraya heal those people who needed to be healed," Acantha said as her hand turned into a fist.

"There is also one young man whose mother died because they don’t have enough money to give to the Abellarde’s," she said as she looked at her father, whose face darkened at what she said.

"I knew that he was bad, but I didn’t know he was this bad." Acantha continued.

"He was eviler than you think," the duke said as he walked near her balcony and looked at the outside like he was thinking something.

"He can do anything as he can do as he knew that he has the Empress on his back." The duke said as he was still looking at the balcony.

"But, Father. Who was the man you call Lord Rigas? I didn’t seem to see him during the ball at the palace." Acantha said as she looked at Flamear, who yawned at the corner.

She saw how her father turned to her, and there was a glimpse of anger in his eyes.

"Hugo Rigas was the son of the late Count Rigas; he was the youngest son in their family and one of my closest friends." The duke said, which made her look at him in confusion.

"What happened?" She asks in confusion; she doesn’t know, but she knows there is still something with that man in the way he looks at her.

"Hugo was your mother’s supposed to be fiancee, but there was this instant where the Klartis found out that the Rigas was only aiming for the mine in the magical forest, which is the reason why the Klartis ended the bethrotal, as the Count plans to destroy the forest to get the mana mine," the duke said as he looked at her.

"Everything was fine since they were still young when that happened; Hugo grew as our friend, and I, when I fought alongside the Klartis knights in the north to protect it from the Tenebrisaya, met your mother their. We became friends, and we fell in love with each other." The duke said as he looked like he was reminiscing about the past that he had with his mother.

She saw the sadness in her eyes while he was reminiscing. "The duke of Klartis, your late grandfather was against our relationship; as he said, I might be another person who would do something to harm his daughter and the north." Acantha just listened to her father as he was still telling her about their past.

"Well, I pursued your mother no matter how the duke was against it; he wanted Catanya to marry someone from the north, someone who would understand the place itself and will surely bring no harm to it, and would let her still have the name Klartis." The duke said as he looked at the window, like he was seeing those memories.

Acantha was frowning as she was still listening to the duke.

"Duke Klartis told me some things about that forest and that there was a mine for mana stones, which surprised me. As you know, there are only some places in this place where you can make and produce mana stones, and what more the mine that was producing a mana stone? That’s the biggest temptation I ever heard, as at that time we were currently fighting the Tenebrisaya, who has powerful monsters. It was important, of course, to win the war, but what’s important to me is your mother. I couldn’t lose her for that reason; I can fight those monsters till I die, but your mother only came once in this life, and I can’t let her slip from me knowing I have a choice. I told the duke about what I felt and that the mine wasn’t important to me, but if it is for him and for Catanya, then I will protect it too with my life." She saw the love in his eyes as he was talking about her mother.

"The night is getting deep; I think that’s enough for now." The duke said as he looked at her and walked straight to give her a kiss on the head as he walked close to the door and went outside.

Acantha still wanted to hear about the old stories the duke has with her former friend and now his enemy; now she knows the reason why the man was looking at her is because she looks so much like her mother.

Acantha woke up that early, as she had already sent a message to Helion that she was going to do missionary work and would heal those who needed her power.

She also sent some of the Klartis knights to go to the market to tell the people that they can meet her here at the duchy, as the duke only allows her to help them here in their house.

But, of course, not exactly in their house; in Klartis, they had their own healers who were working at their own infirmary whenever there were some soldiers who were hurt and badly needed some healers.

Acantha also made sure that Mildred told the cook to cook something for many people as they were going to feed those people who were coming today.

Benedict and his mother also came to help them, assisting all the people who were going today.

Not too long, the people start to arrive at the duchy.

Acantha started healing those who needed immediate healing, and the people who she healed were very happy as they could get healed without losing something.

Mildred on the other side was the one who was giving the food to the people, with the other maids who were also helping there.

She also received a reply from Helion asking if she was okay, which replied yes, and she also reminded him to get some sleep as she noticed that he lacks rest.

Helion was reading the letter from Acantha; she told him that she noticed his lack of sleep.

"Helion." Helion lifts his head from reading the letter when someone calls his name, and there he sees his mother, who looks like she is not in a good mood.

"Mother," he greeted as he bowed his head to show some respect.

"What is this rumor that I’ve been hearing about Lady Acantha?" His mother said as he looked at her like he was demanding him to tell her the truth.

"Is this some other facade from the duke who wants to throw all the Abellarde’s?" His mother said, which made him frown, and where did he get that idea?

"No, the rumors that you’ve been hearing about Lady Acantha were true; she has some powers and she can heal people, she was also the one who helped those people at the infirmary last time. " Helion said as he frowned at his mother.

"How can that be? Isn’t she born without some powers? I knew my friend Catanya told me that." The Empress said as she looked at him like what he said was impossible.

"The late duchess sealed her power as she knew that if everyone knew about the power she possessed, Lady Acantha wouldn’t have a normal childhood as she wouldn’t be safe." Helion explained as he looked out and saw some birds flying outside his window.

"Maybe just like the baron said that the duke was letting his daughter use some mana stones which they got from the north," Helion slapped his forehead with his palm as he could not believe what he was hearing from his mother. She sounds like Noraya and her father, who can’t understand some situations.

And besides, he was really getting suspicious about what was happening to his mother, as it seems like she was a new person.

"No, mother, when I was with Lady Acantha, I could test that she wasn’t using any kinds of mana stones," he said, which made his mother grimace.

"By the way, the reason why I was here is because Lady Noraya was asking why you didn’t visit her when she fell unconscious at the market yesterday; she said she was really sad that you didn’t take her side yesterday, and now she was really heartbroken when she didn’t see you at their house this morning." His mother said as she raised her hands to call one of her maids, who brought some tea with her as she sat at one of the chairs.

"I was busy," Helion said as he looked at her as she poured them some tea.

"Try this rose tea," the Empress said as she gave him one of the cups.

Helion looked at the cup that she was offering; he didn’t know but it seems like there was something weird about its smell.

"I’m good, mother; I just had my coffee a while ago," he said as he simply declined the tea.

She saw how her mother’s face changed; she looked sad when she did that and was about to stand when he stopped her.

"Just leave the tea here, mother; I’ll drink it later," he said as he smiled at her, which made her smile back at him.

"You should drink it before it gets cold," she said before she left the place.

Helion looked at the cup and-
