Villainess Want's To Ignore Them! -
Chapter 53: Di Santris
Chapter 53: Di Santris
Acantha saw that people in the village look like they haven’t eaten for weeks.
She even saw some children who looked very sick, and their bodies looked like they were all just waiting for their deaths. Why wouldn’t they get out from here and find some food for themselves?
"Didn’t the empire have a plan for this?" She asked as she tugged on Helion’s clothes as the people started getting out of their house and were starting to look at them like they had seen a miracle.
"The empire already sent someone from the capital to give some food to those people who don’t have enough." Helion said, which made her look at him.
"If the empire already sent someone, then why are they still like this? It looks like no one has visited here before, based on the way the people look.
"Why do they look like this?" Acantha said as she went to ask the man, who was surprised when she did.
The coachman looked at her, and she saw that there was some panic in his eyes." I-i-" He said while he was stuttering, and his eyes became uneasy.
"What’s wrong with people here? Why does it seem like if you’re going to ask them, it feels like they are scared with someone or something?", She said as she glared at the coachman, and she saw him gulped.
"You, tell me why the people here look like this."Acantha didn’t want to scare him, but it seems like the coachman didn’t have a plan to tell them the reason why the people in the east look like this.
"Forgive me, my lady, but -" The coachman said as he looked at her like he was going to die any time while he was kneeling in the ground.
"But what?" She looked at Helion when he asked the man. "Are you scared of someone and not of me?" Helion said as she could sense the danger and warning in his voice as he looked at the man.
"The Di Santris family was behind this," the man said as he was shaking in fear.
"Di Santris?" Acantha said as she tried to remember who it was.
"The Count Di Santris?" Helion said as he looked at the man.
"Do you know that family?" Acantha said as she was thinking that the name sounds familiar.
"The Count Di Santris family was the family of Lady Noraya’s family," Helion said as he looked at her.
That’s right Count Di Santris was Noraya’s uncle from her mother’s side who supported the Baron of his wrongdoing, as he was also one of Noraya’s supporters to be the crown princess, as she was his key to becoming the richest and gain more power.
"Why does it seem like you were scared of the count?" Helion asked, which made her look at him.
Damn, she knows why he asked that. Helion knew the count as a kind and helpful person, and that’s why maybe he didn’t believe the coachman.
"As I know the count was even the one who was helping the people in here," he said as he looked around them.
"You don’t know him," the man said as he snapped. "Everyone here is scared of the count as he was ruthless, and these people? They used to work for him, but he didn’t give them enough salary and enough food," the man said as he pointed at the people who were now standing near them, and their eyes looked like they were begging for food and water.
"These people were thrown here when they got sick, and the count spread a rumor that they have an illness that can be passed to someone, which is why he put them here; these people weren’t allowed to get out of this place as the count has his people guarding the market, and if they saw or saw anyone from here go there, they would be killed." The man said as he looked at them.
"The count did even promise their family that if they would give him the money he wanted, he would bring his niece here to cure these people. That’s why their family was working hard so that they could get back and be cured, but no! The count didn’t do as what he had promised; I gave him some money to get my wife in here and to make him cure her, but the heartless count just let my wife die, and since then, I was the only one who was not afraid to go here." The man revealed, and Acantha couldn’t believe what she heard.
"But why are you afraid? Shouldn’t you feel angry at him for what he did?" Acantha said as she looked at him.
"What can I do if he held my daughter in his house?" The man said as he lay hopeless in the ground.
Acantha saw Helion’s face darken when he heard these things from the man. She also saw a glimpse of betrayal on his eyes.
Acantha saw and heard Helion whistle in the air. There is a white bird who comes flying in their direction.
"Do you have a quill and a paper?" Helion said as he turned to her.
Acantha shook her head as an answer. She looks at Mildred, who has a bag.
"Do you have quill and paper, Mildred?" Acantha asked, which Mildred answered by nodding her head.
Acantha handed the quill and paper to Helion, who started to write something on it, and he attached it to the bird before it fly away from them.
"Is that for Ernie and the others?" She asked as they still haven’t arrived at this place.
Ernie, Jarnus, and some of the knights will come here with them, but Helion, Acantha, and Mildred went first, as they don’t want to attract people if they go there together. They had just some small knights who were riding on their horse, but they had their distance from them.
Acantha looked at the people when suddenly- they heard a loud thud in the ground.
"Help"
They heard someone shout, and they saw how the people who live in the village panic the same as the coachman.
The flock of people suddenly was waved when Helion rushed to where he heard the sound.
Acantha looked at where Helion was and saw one kid lying unconscious on the ground.
She looked at Helion, who was also looking and seems to be asking for her help.
Acantha walks in his direction. She takes the kid’s hand, and she uses her power to cure the kid.
The people who were there were in awe when they witnessed how she cured the kid.
"Please, help us too!" She heard some of the people shout as they started pushing each other.
Acantha was worried at them as some of them are old people and some have some babies with them.
"Stop!" She said as she looked at them as she made them freeze
She uses her power to make them stop as the situations are getting worse and worse.
Acantha saw how the people’s eyes widen when she did that.
"I knew that everyone of you wanted to be cured. But you’ll get worse if you don’t behave right," she yelled as she glared at them.
She unbound them, and Helion asisted as they formed a line.
Acantha cured the children and elderly people first.
She felt tired after she cured all of them; in the evening, Ernie and the others arose, and they had some food and some clothes with them. They give to the villagers as they stay in one of the empty houses there.
Acantha also learned that the illness they had was not the one that can be passed on in air or with a simple contact; the cause of the illness is that they were exposed with some dark magic, and the villagers told them that they used to work in a place where they were the ones who distributed the fake mana stones in the market and that the Count and the Baron weren’t also the ones who was behind it.
"Do you know about Cruix?" Acantha asked the coachman, whose name she learned to be was Mariano, who’s been working as a coach since his wife died.
"What I told you while we were travelling here was true; we can’t go there as the owner hired some magician to put something in that place, and beside, based on the rumor, that place was haunted." He said as he took a sip on his cup.
Acantha just nodded Why does it seem like everyone here was also unaware of what the mountain is?
They talked that night, and she also apologized for her behavior when she threatened and yelled at him in the afternoon.
_______________
In the morning, many of the villagers had already packed their things as they were all ready to go home to their own families.
Acantha saw that Mariano was a little sad as his daughter was still at the count’s house.
The knights who were with them helped the villagers get them out of the place, and Acantha, with Helion, Mildred, and Flamear, who was still unconscious, were the ones who were left at the place.
She used her binoculars to look at the mountain when she noticed something coming from it.
Acantha looked again, and still it was the same.
"Helion," she said as she called him.
She handed him the binoculars and pointed him where she saw something.
"What is that?" She heard Helion ask, as she too can’t believe what she saw.
She looked at it again and-
