"What was happening in here?" The duke asks his knights as they seem to be blocking the way from someone.

"D-duke...." One of the knights said as his eyes widened when they saw him.

"What was happening here?" the duke repeated what he said a while ago as he was looking at his knights, who seemed to be hiding something from the other side.

The duke looked at his knight and gave them some warning.

The knights, who were blocking their way and seemed to be hiding something behind them, which was also behind the barrier, waved to let them see what was behind them.

Acantha and the others looked at the people who were behind the knights and outside the barrier.

There Helion, with Jarnus and Ernie, was standing outside and was glaring at the knights, who were now facing the duke, who was also raising his brows at them.

The duke walked towards where the three were.

Acantha, on the other hand, just sighed, as she knew that his father and Helion would argue again, and besides, the empress would make a fuss over it and go mad again like she was never mad at her.

She sighed as it seems like they were having a heated conversation, which they cannot hear, as this barrier could not hear the people who were outside unless the guards who were guarding this place will let them in.

"What are you all doing here?" Acantha asks as she looks at the three who are still talking to her father, who on the other side is clenching his fist as he is looking at the three in front of them.

"Stay there, Aki," Her father said as he stopped her from coming in their direction.

"I apologized, Your Grace, but his Highness, Ernie, and I went against the empress and left the palace," Jarnus said as he bowed down his head.

"And what does it do with us?" The duke asked as he looked at the three people in front of him. Acantha could only sigh at his father’s attitude of being petty.

"This is the only place we know since we learned that the Solaris Duchy can be seen again, and just like I said, this is the only place we know that the empress wouldn’t dare to go," Jarnus said as he looked at her, like he was begging.

"And why do you think I’ll let you in?" Her father asked as he raised his brows at the three.

Acantha saw that Helion sighed deeply as he was trying to look at the duke, trying not to glare to add some salt to the situation.

"Because... of this," Helion said to her father as he handed him some letters.

Acantha looked at the seal and frowned when she saw that it had the Klartis symbol, which was odd, as she didn’t even give him some letter using the Klartis.

"The late duchess gave it to me when I was young, while she was still pregnant with Lady Acantha. she said that I might use this one when I’m in need of help, and you refuse." Helion said as he looked at him before looking back to her father again.

"You... You dare use my wife against me?" her father said as he was shaking after he read the letter from her late mother.

"I am not using the late duchess against you, Duke... But this is what she gave me and said that I could use it when you refused to help me one day," Helion explained to her father.

The duke didn’t say anything as he looked at her.

Acantha saw the sadness and longing in his eyes.

"Don’t expect to receive some kind of treatment before; here in my place you were nothing but a refugee," The duke said as he pulled him by her hand.

"Let’s go, Aki..." Acantha didn’t even have the time to say something, as the duke had already teleported them inside their home.

The duke looked at her sadly before he went ahead and went to his own room.

Acantha knew how big an impact his mother’s letter had had on him.

After all, her late mother was the first and last love of her father, which broke him into pieces when she died.

Helion was left with Jarnus and Ernie while the other knights were looking at him.

"We apologized, Your Highness..." the knights said as they all bowed to him.

"We were just doing what we were told," one of the knights said, and Helion just nodded as he knew how loyal the Solaris Knights were to the duke.

"What are you doing?" The knights all paled and turned their backs on them to face the person who asked.

"We were just telling them something, Lord Diego..." Helion looked at Diego, who was glaring at him.

Just like he always was, Diego was always the most loyal dog of the duke.

And he probably hates the imperial family too because of what his mother did to his Lady and the duke.

"The duke said that you are going to stay in one vacant house here in the duchy, you were not going to be treated special, and you will work for your food here and your stay," Diego said as he let them come inside the barrier.

Before they could even protest, Diego teleported them in front of a house. it was not small, but it wasn’t big either.

"This is the house that the duke provided for the three of you. it hasn’t been used, as the last couple who used it moved to another house on the other side of the duchy," Diego said as he opened the house.

The house has some chairs and a table; at least it wasn’t empty.

"Wh-"

Jarnus slapped Ernie’s mouth when he was about to say something against Diego.

"Is there anything you want to say?" Diego asks them as he was glaring at Ernie, whose mouth was still covered by Jarnus’s hand.

"No..." Helion answered emotionless.

"If there’s no question, then I shall take my leave—and oh, before I forget, he also gives you a job, and you will find out tomorrow morning, so you should take a rest," Diego said before he disappeared in front of them.

"Mmmmm, mmm." They both looked at Ernie, who was murmuring something. He slapped Jarnus’s hands that were covering his mouth.

He gasped for air and glared at Jarnus, who just raised his brows at him.

"You idiot! How dare you put your hands on my mouth?!" Ernie yelled at Jarnus, who just shrugged at him.

"You’re too loud... " Jarnus said to Ernie, who just pouted while he was wiping his mouth.

"You’re highness, are you sure you’re okay with this?" Jarnus asked him worriedly as he roamed his eyes over the place.

"Yes, Your highness, the duke and the people here were too cruel to do this to you... You who are a crown prince..." Ernie said as he looked at him while he was still wiping his lips.

"It’s better here... Mother has gone mad again," Helion said as he looked at the two.

After he saw Acantha this afternoon, his mother kept on saying some bad things about her, that she kidnapped Lady Yarin because she was jealous that she was going to be his bride.

Oh, how Helion wished she was.

But knowing Acantha, it was really hard to read her emotions, and what’s more, her mind.

The night came at the palace when they received some news about Lady Yarin’s family and what they had done to the late baron, who turned out to be alive after these years.

His mother blamed the Solaris again, especially Acantha.

They were heated in an argument as his mother kept on insisting that she did all those things and framed Lady Yarin and her family even with the evidence presented in front of her.

His father wasn’t around at that time, as he went to the west, where he had some meetings with some nobles there, and Helion was stuck with his mother, who kept on saying some nonsense about what she believed Lady Acantha was.

He left the palace despite his mother shouting and calling his name, but he had had enough of her....

"But, Your highness... You don’t deserve this," Ernie said while he was looking at him and looking around them.

"No, I deserved worse than this..." Helion said as he looked at the room where he was going to sleep.

The duke was still merciful, and maybe because of the letter from the late duchess, he still gave them some places to stay here in the duchy and some work.

The house has two rooms, and it seems like it was really made for them to stay here in the duchy.

The bed might not be as cozy and soft as what he was used to, but it was still warm.

Helion closes his eyes, and he even hears the two arguing in the next room.

The next morning they were all woken up by some loud knocks from the main door of the house.

Helion stood and walked out from the room where he was sleeping. He went to the door and opened it and there he saw Zerth.

"I was here to deliver your things," Zerth said as he looked at him coldly.

"What things?" Helion asked as he frowned at him, as he didn’t remember them giving their things to them.

"Things you will use later, call the other two; one as your new job will start now..." Zerth said to him.

Helion looked at him and glared but did not dare to disobey, as he knew that it would come to the duke.

The duke was looking for a reason to kick them out of his duchy.

He looked behind him, and it seemed like Ernie and Jarnus were already awake.
