Chapter 146: An Overwhelmed Guest... An Intruder?

Acantha looked at the lady who was now sitting in their dining room, who still looked very amazed at what she was seeing.

"My Lady, the duke said that he can’t come home tonight as he has some things to do in the east," Mildred said to her.

Acantha nodded at her as she began eating her own food, while their guest looked like she was hesitating to eat something.

"What’s wrong, Lady Yarin?" Acantha said as she looked at the lady who looked like she was suspecting her food.

"Do you think we will poison you?" she continued as she looked at Lady Yarin, who snorted at her.

"And what if your people did? How would you take responsibility if I got poisoned here?" the lady said to her, which made Acantha chuckle at what she said.

"My, My, what bold accusations you were throwing against our duchy, Lady Yarin," Acantha said as she started chewing her own food.

"Why did you even bring me here? You probably wanted to brag about having such a luxurious house like this?" The lady said as she finally started eating her own food, but she looked like she was forcing herself.

Acantha waited for her reaction when she finally put the food in her mouth; she saw Lady Yarin’s eyes widen when she finally tasted the food.

"It’s delicious, right? Don’t worry, the cooks here always make sure that they cook the best food," Acantha said as she bragged like what Lady Yarin always does.

The Lady didn’t answer her, but she gave her a glare, which Acantha just shrugged off.

After they finished eating the lunch, the maids served them some desserts, and Lady Yarin glared at her more when she saw what kind of desserts they served.

"Have a taste, Lady Yarin," Acantha said as she smirked at the lady who was still quiet.

It seems like she just hit her pride, but Acantha was still not finished.

She guided the lady to one of the family’s rooms, where there are so many collections of family heirlooms.

"Look, Lady Yarin, these are our family’s heirlooms," Acantha said when she finally opened the room, and she saw the lady’s eyes widen at what she saw.

"See this?" Acantha said as she pulled one of the chokers that has one of the finest and rarest pearls that can be found in their empire.

"T-this..." Acantha looked at the lady as she seemed to recognized the necklace.

"You’re right, this was the necklace that was gifted by our great-great-grandfather to our great-great-grandmother. As you can see, the face of our grandmother was crafted into it, and even the black crystal has its own uniqueness as it carries the family’s crest," Acantha said as she looked at the necklace that was inside the crystal and was protected by some magic. that only family member can get it.

They roam around the place and the lady seems very quiet.

After they finished, they went to the living room, where the tea was already served for them.

"Is this why you brought me here? To brag about how rich your duchy is? It was just lucky you were born into this family," The lady said as she glared at her.

"Yes, I am lucky to be born in this family, but mind you, Lady Yarin, all of these things were hard-earned by my ancestors, not just what you said, that we extorted money from people just to protect them," Acantha said as she poured them some tea.

It was already evening, as they didn’t seem to mind the time while they were roaming around the family room.

"Huh! and who do you think would believe that? and besides, do you think your family will get this kind of thing if they didn’t use the commoners?" Lady Yarin said as she smirked at her while she sipped her cup.

Acantha smirked secretly.

"It seems like you don’t doubt us on poisoning you anymore, Lady Yarin," Acantha said as she looked at the lady, who stopped sipping from her cup when she said that.

"You—"

"But don’t worry, that would waste some poison, and besides, you’re not worth that," Acantha said as she stopped the lady at what she was about to say to her.

"And besides, aren’t you done accusing the Solaris? Do you think the people in here who was part of the clan would still have their blessings from the Dragon god if they extorted some people? You seem to be clueless when it comes to receiving some blessings; that blessing has also a curse on it," Acantha said as she looked at her

"And Lady Acantha, how’s Baron Yarin doing?" Acantha asked, which made the lady frown at her.

"Why do you ask about my father?" she said as she raised her brows at her.

"I’m not talking about your father; I am talking about the real Baron Yarin," Acantha said, which made the other lady’s eyes widen at what she said.

"You-- How?" Lady Yarin looked confused and scared at the same time at what she asked.

"The walls have ears, Lady Yarin..." Acantha said as she looked at the lady who was now shaking at what she said.

"Did that stupid woman say it to you?" Lady Yarin said as she asked her.

"That woman? Hmmm, If I remember correctly, you brought your personal maid the day of the party. is she the one you’re talking about?" Acantha said as she looked at the lady as she glared at her.

If Acantha remembered it, she had already seen Lady Yarin before the party even started at the Balcony. when she was trying to look at the sky, she remembered seeing two figures of women, and the other woman was yelling at her maid.

And she also saw the maid when they entered the place. Wait.

"What?" The lady said as she looked pale at her.

"She’s the real one, isn’t she?" Acantha asked to confirm her hunch. he had seen the old portrait of the old Baron that was given to her by Flamear, who sneaks into the Yarin’s house this morning.

"The baron had a wife fifteen years ago, but when his wife was traveling, she was attacked by some people, who were believed to be some bandits, while she was pregnant, but the truth is. The baroness went into labor that day, before she was killed, and the people who were about to kill the baby suddenly stopped when there were some priests that were coming on their way. they took the baroness’s body but left her newborn daughter right where the priests found her," Acantha said as she stood up from where she was sitting and stopped when she was behind the lady.

"That maid of yours, isn’t she the baron’s daughter?" Acantha whispered in Lady Yarin’s ear, which made the lady stiffen.

"The baron blamed himself that if he had just insisted on giving his wife some escort, his wife and he believed that his unborn child must still be alive now." She continued as she looked at the lady who was sweating and looked like she was about to lose her breath.

"The sad baron who keeps on working makes himself so rich that he has no heir, and one day, he saw your father and recognized him as his brother’s bastard son, who went to their house before and claimed who he was, but that was the baron’s mistake. he gets sick, and your family fooled everyone that he was already dead, when your father imprisoned him in his room without even knowing that his child, who he thought was dead, was very much alive and was abused by the same family who locked him!" Acantha said angrily as she was gasping for breath in anger.

"How did you find out about this one? I want to go home," Lady Yarin said as she was shaking, and Acantha looked at her.

The room suddenly opened and her father entered the room while he was with some knights and they were with some other people.

"Father, Mother... What’s going on?" Lady Yarin said as she saw her parents tied up while some knights were holding them.

"What are you doing? Don’t you know this is against the law?! We came from a noble house too," Lady Yarin said as she tried to free her parents, who were still held by some knights.

"Noble house? You must be kidding me," Her father said and Lady Yarin’s eyes widened when two figures came out from their back and the late baron, who looked very sick, was with his daughter, who looked relieved.

"Lord Yarin, we were sorry that you needed to witness this. as a new father who just found his daughter, I know how painful it is for you to see the faces of the people who made your life miserable, not only yours but also your daughter’s.

"No, I should face them, duke, after all, I let these intruders into my life, not knowing that they were behind the assassination of my wife," The baron said as he coughed.

Acantha raised her hand to heal him, which made him look at her in shock when he stopped coughing and he looked better than he had before.

"Thank you, Lady Acantha. I heard it was you who discovered everything. I want to ask why, but what’s important to me is to be with my daughter and to punish these intruders who took everything from me," The baron said as he looked at the people who he used to treat as family.

The baron said something to them, which Acantha and the duke didn’t bother to listen to anymore as they left the room.

"Your Grace..." Diego said when they saw him outside and he looks like he just came.

"What was it, Diego?" her father asks Diego.

"There was another intruder outside the border who keeps on disturbing the knights who were there," Diego said as he looked at her.

And Acantha just looked at him while frowning.

They all teleported to the gate of their duchy and saw that guards were camping and looked like they were talking to someone.

Acantha was thinking inside her head, who might this other intruder be?
