Chapter 113: WHERE’S THE LIGHT IN THE DARKEST DAY?
Dion looked at Helion, who was coming in their direction, looking like he too was surprised at the news they got from the Solaris Duchy.
"My son, you’re here now. Can you help me convince your father to eat with me?" His wife said as she went on, their son clings on him.
Dion saw that his son sighed; he knew that he was still mad at his mother, but knowing Helion, he still has a soft spot for Helen.
"Have you had any news from them, Father?" His son said while ignoring his mother’s whims.
"No, I tried reaching out to them, but there was none. The letter that I sent was sent back again here." Dion said as he looked at his son with sadness in his eyes.
"What about Hernand?" Helion asked him, and it seems like he didn’t realize it, but then again.
Knowing Hernand was still here, probably the duke and the lady also blocked him from coming there, as they knew that he would be updating them.
The father and son just sighed together.
"What was wrong with the both of you?" They both lifted their heads when they heard the Empress’s voice, who looked pissed when both of them seemingly ignored her.
"Not now, mother." Helion said as he warned his mother, who looked shocked at what he did.
"Really? Are you both going to treat me like this because of them?" Helen said to them and both men were just trying to calm themselves.
Why has arguing with her been so difficult?
She was worse than a kid who was throwing some tantrums, not getting what she or he wanted.
"I will go there; I’ll try my luck." Helion said as he looked at his father, who just nodded at him , before he went out without even looking at his mother, who got angry because of what he did.
"See what that girl made our son? She made him turn against us." Helen said as she fanned herself as she was trying to calm herself.
"I told you before that you were becoming insufferable and unbearable each day. What happened to you?" Dion asked his wife, who looks surprised at what he said about him.
"What did you say?" Helen asked him while glaring.
"I said what I said; you’ve been unreasonable. Your son has been tolerating you as he still respects you as his mother, but please, Helen... enough.... isn’t it enough that I already lost my best friend without us reconciling? and worse, I couldn’t even send him off as everyone was banned from entering the palace." DIon said and he didn’t wait for his wife to answer him, as he walked away from her,
------------------------
Acantha looked at the people who lived in the Solaris.
They went in their house to see the duke for the last time.
Everyone who was there was crying for their beloved duke.
The duke might be painted as ruthless on the battlefield; he was the exact opposite when it came to his people.
Acantha was just looking at the people and she could feel how loved the duke is by his people.
She never dared to open the barrier to let the others come here.
She was still mad at them.
She was mad at everyone who cast them away.
Favian was also standing near the duke’s casket as he was guarding it along with the others; little did everyone know that the casket was empty and the duke was still in his room as they were going to prepare to leave the place after she would triple the security on the duchy.
Acantha knew that Abanoon would do more moves now that she wouldn’t be there anymore.
The people still keep on coming as the hours pass by.
Flamear was nowhere to be found as he was already in the north talking and preparing for the duke’s resting place.
She can also sense that Helion had tried going inside the barrier as he was trying to use his power.
Did his mother even know what her son was doing?
The last time Acantha checked, the empress was controlling Helion on what to do.
"My Lady, I think you should take a rest." Mildred, who was standing next to her, said as she looked worriedly at her.
Acantha nodded at her. "You too, Mildred," she said as she tapped her on her shoulders.
Mildred has been working since this morning just to prepare everything for her. She even wanted to come with her to find the land of the dead, but Acantha can’t put any risk on harming her there.
She knows that her staying here is much safer; there’s no way Abanoon won’t learn about her getting inside her territory.
Acantha knew that the Tenebrisaya had worshipped Abanoon as their goddess and that her remains, which had been burned, were in their castle.
She walks to the kitchen as she wants to get some food and asks if everything she asked for is all ready.
"Is everything ready?" Acantha asked the cook as they were preparing food for her and for the other who went in their house today.
No one knew in their duchy what they were about to do; it was only the five of them who knew about the duke’s situation.
Acantha saw from the window in the kitchen that Fabian, along with the others, went to bring the casket to the cemetery in their duchy, where their families would were for generations.
How would they convince those people who were not here if they won’t stage a funeral?
She knew that even if no one could get out of this place, the walls have ears and she knew by now that they already knew what was happening here in the Solaris Duchy.
If not, Helion won’t be forcing and trying to use his power to enter their territory.
But no, she was still too mad—not on him, but she was still not ready to open to anyone, not after what happened.
Acantha looked at the people again; they probably think that she didn’t go with them because she couldn’t bear it.
----------------------
Helion cursed as he had been trying to get inside the Klartis Duchy but the damned barrier won’t even flinch at what he did.
The barrier was even throwing him for trying on getting inside and trying to break in.
"That’s enough, Your Highness." Helion heard Jarnus, said he, as he looked at him worriedly.
"No, I won’t budge. I need to see her and tell her that everything Mother had said about her was not true. I want to be there for her when she needed someone to lean on." Helion said desperately, which made Jarnus and Ernie look at each other.
They knew that he had some feelings for the lady, as they saw how he did things he hadn’t done to anyone except for his mother.
And besides, this was the very first day that he became so vocal about his feelings.
"But if you won’t stop, your highness, you’ll just hurt yourself more." Ernie said as he looked at Helion, who was still exhausting himself trying to enter the place.
They were about to take a step when they heard a familiar sound.
They knew that sound and they needed to get out from here.
That sound can be heard around the empire and is a sign that they shouldn’t get out and close their doors.
They saw that Helion didn’t seem to hear anything.
Jarnus and Ernie went to him and they held him both from his arms, trying to restrain him.
Jarnus uses his mana stone to teleport them to the palace.
When they arrived, every corner had been closed, and they all sighed in relief.
"What do you think you have done?" Helion asked them as he was trying to break from them.
"We beg you, Your Highness... You can go there anytime you want, but please do remember that we still have some unfinished enemies that were lurking around the empire." Jarnus said as he looked at Helion, whose face was back from being cold again.
"And besides, you won’t see, Lady Acantha, if those things kill you." Ernie said, which seems to knock some sense into his head.
Helion sighed in defeat...
Jarnus and Ernie were right...
He won’t see her again if he dies trying to see her.
Helion just nodded at him, like he was assuring them that he wouldn’t do any recklessness again.
After all, he could just go back there when those things weren’t around anymore.
But he knew they hadn’t got any idea how they would stop those things or how to kill them.
---------------------
Acantha was waiting for the others to come, as they were still at the cemetery.
She couldn’t feel Helion’s energy anymore trying to break the barrier.
Seems like he just gives up.
And besides, she could feel those black things again, and since she improved the barrier, those things couldn’t enter anymore to suck people’s souls.
This would be their last day before they travel to the Tenebrisaya...
Just hang on there, Father...
Acantha said as she looked at the room where her father was.
